I've gotta let my 80s friends on here know that the whole series is on prime. Best £15 I've ever spent. I truly adore this series. Greetings fellow cog lovers. ✌️
The music for this show is so good from the theme song from the beginning credits and the end credits to the instrumental with the synths when the golden condor flies up in the air. I just absolutely love all of it.
The music when the Condor opens its wings, its so beautiful. Partly because it reminds me of the awesome childhhood I had in the 80's. Anyone who grew up in the 80's as a child was damn lucky. We had cartoons, toys, Saturday morning cartoons, Nickelodeon, etc. Technology didn't rob our childhood in those days.
SkydiverSG If you listen closely to the music at the start you'll hear some tracks that were used on HE-MAN & THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. That's because Haim Saban, & Sukie Levey scored both shows.
@@TonyJones107758189544046598872 Yep there really were Olmecs! They did a lot of research in that cartoon. Unusual for modern animation, but the Japanese-French productions of the 80s were very high quality, and a much higher budget than the garbage animation of today, wherever it's made. There's lots of stuff in Cities Of Gold that's based on historic fact. There probably wasn't a flying condor though, sadly. Ulysses 31 is another fantastic one. Back then they made epic high-quality TV for kids that probably did their brains and imaginations some good. Why is it all shit today? As South Park said, not just violence or sex, cartoons being *incredibly stupid* is bad for kids.
People here commenting about this show being a big part of their childhood - this show WAS my childhood! Watching it now at 47 years old made me tear up with nostalgia. Takes me back to a time when I was young, idealistic and carefree. Before growing up and all the complicated adult responsibilities and emotional/psychological baggage. It's bittersweet because I'd love to be that boy again, but I know it is impossible.
Kids today are just born watching youtubers... its sad... they never experience the emotions from animations anymore... just anger and rage from gamers.. this was my childhood. This was me. I am happy and proud to LOVE MCOG forever. xx thank you
It's... just... beautiful. The chills going down my spine are many, more than I can ever get with anything else. They really don't make them like this any more.
Yeah I remember this. The music is SPECTACTULAR when the condor arms. The blessing in this is the kids (Tia, Estaban and Tao (who I always thought was pronounced Towel haah) have a good old chuckle bring back happy memories of my childhood. These 3 kids were my favourite TV kids :)
Feelings are very important to connect when you are watching something. They did it successfully with the sound effects when the wings are unfolding, windshield rising (Esteban's hair stops moving to indicate complete seal), Condors Head rising and they turning their heads when it moves along with a slight motor sound indicating hydraulic operation, and finally, the feet retracting with a beautiful titanium metal clicking sound when complete. This is followed by a side view of the machine to simulate very realistic aerodynamic characteristics. Hot Damn..Good Old Days Cartoons
Such beautiful music. It makes me want to cry because the music takes me back to a time when I was a child with toys and cartoons and happiness before adulthood. I am so happy to have been a child during the 80's.
Thank you for making this video available!! It has been years since I saw this as a kid. I am sure that everyone that has come here wishes the same. Thank you for allowing us to revisit our childhood via this clip. I cannot thank you enough!!
I loved that Condor as if it was a character itself, particularly its reveal and in this scene; 1:30 always gives me chills of happy. Getting home from school to watch this is something that will always remain with me.
For a full minute everybody just STFU and watched scenery. This can never happen in a modern cartoon. And then the kids laughter woke up the adults and gave them courage. Magical.
This part is so serene. If they remade this today they would have laser beams shooting from the birds eyes and machines guns going off everywhere. Thers no beauty or class in todays shows.
Without a doubt one of the most uplifting days of my childhood. Watching this and then going to school next day excited to discuss with my friends. Did the 80s get much better for a kid?
Thank you for uploading this. It's been about thirty years since I saw this episode (and series) last as a ten year old. I loved it back then, and seeing this clip is makes me remember what a great show it was, and how much I want to revisit it - the music and the animation are gorgeous.
Incredible, I get goosebumps watching this after something like 30 years. I remember the same feeling when Esteban inserted the disc and the music kicked in.

The way the head of the Condor pulls back up in line with the body of the airplane is extremely similar to the "nose" of the Concorde which is a Franco-British creation that came to commercial service barely 7 years before MCOD. Yet another proof of the very refined French-ness of the series ! 😍
I get chills everytime i watch this and hear the music, it reminds me of my childhood, i would run home from school to catch the next episode and we would all talk about it at school the next day.
I've only just realised they have the same backing music as He-Men and the Masters of the Universe. Now that I hear it I keep expecting to see Snake Mountain.
I have such vivid memories of this show but I couldn't remember the name and none of my peers could remember this show...in fact they can't remember any shows I talk about from my childhood. I'm beginning to wonder if I watched too much tv as a kid...
I had Shazamed the song before to see if its on Apple music. It didn’t come up. Just a few days ago I was watching this episode on Amazon Prime and I Shazamed it again. NOW it is on Apple music. But the soundtrack is under its original French name, Les Mystérieuses Cités D’or! By a group called Le Groupe Apollo. This song is Track 18 on the album. Both opening theme songs are on the album, French and English.
I watched this in the 80s on Nickelodeon. I was devastated when they stopped showing it. Back then once a show was off a station you likely wouldn't see it again unless you taped it on vhs or they released a vhs copy. I'm sure it was on VHS somewhere, but not where I lived and no internet back then to order it.
The Condor is a mechanical bird known as an 'Ornithopter'. Ornithopters were the first known robots. And, yes, the music is beautiful and brought back memories.

Thing about Leonardo the genius, is none of his inventions actually worked. Anyone can invent a helicopter that doesn't actually have to fly. I myself invented a giant robot when I was 4.
It wouldn't surprise me. This anime was first aired in the early 80s, around the same time Giorgio Moroder was producing electronic/synth soundtracks for shows/movies.

There were no good English dubs for any animated shows from about 1970 to 1990. This dub was done in 1982-3 in Canada. The three main voices of Esteban, Zia and Tao were voiced by real children at the time. Such a dub is often called a "peanuts dub" and is honored after "Peanuts", a TV series of shows where all the young characters are always voiced by real children.

When that synth bassline drops.

I loved this show. It still brings back childhood feelings even now. It doesn't seem to have suffered over time either.
this show proved that the old school cartoons are superior to the modern, poorly drawn stuff.
I can agree
This ties with anime
not all the time..good,or even beautiful animation will not alway make a cartoon superior by default.

The Golden Condor---one of the coolest flying machines in 80's Animation!!!
Deric Kennedy,
The Golden Condor was built by the ancient people of Heva.
The music at the beginning sounds like what was used in He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. If I recall that was the case for some of it too.
