My favorite show. Watching this on Nickelodeon in the U.S. It's stuck in my mind(Mostly due to the fantastic "Vangelis"-like musical score and background tracks. I've only met TWO people in the United States who even remember this show, apart from myself. I take great joy in that every other fan of this show I meet hails from a different nation. The wide fan base speaks VOLUMES for this story.

I'm delighted to meet fans from around the world here. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA USA, and it was only on Nickelodeon in my area. I always noticed the number of countries listed in the closing credits....which were in French. I am saddened by the voices and altered background music,as well as the over saturation of cgi in the latter two seasons, particularly as I know the voices of Mendoza, Zia and Tao are eager to reprise the roles. Has anyone heard how horrible Tao sounds in seasons two and three? Mendoza too...at least in the English dubs....I also saw the first episode of Estaban &Zia in French, which seems a bit truer to The Kings Fifth by Scott O'Dell....but, the moment I see mice behaving in an anthropomorphic manner, I'm turned off immediately. Stop imitating Disney's formula. Disney has destroyed every story and franchise they've ever touched and no one ought to seek to emulate to that wretched company....
I wonder if season one of tmcog would even be permitted on American tv these days, what with everyone looking to be offended on behalf of someone else.

As do I. I love the character development that Mendoza undertook, from the silver tongued villain, to the caring father-figure.....Even when he won't admit it.

More gut wrenching than the time Optimus Prime died, the first time round that is.
And if you know your history about the treatment of the Native Americans by the Spanish in the era that this show is set in (and indeed this has continued to this very day) Zia would have suffered a lot of abuse while she was living as, what can only be described as slavery (it's possible that some of this would have included sex abuse) under the thumb of the Princess Margarita, as a 'gift' for her.
This has in my view triggered Zia's PTSD, which explains the reason why she gets so easily scared throughout the series, not to menciaon the fact that on the day she was kidnapped she would have been witness to the wholesale massacre of (almost) her entire village, however on a more positive note it is clear (even in this short clip) that Zia remained loyal to her people right to the bitter end.
You could say that the entire show is in fact a tragic melodrama aimed at children because, well you'll have to watch the series in order to find out how it ended (the so called 'second' series somewhat sugar coated it, but not quite, if you get what I mean...) but I will tell you this, 'The Mysterious Cities of Gold' has us identity with and the side of the Native, not the Spanish (or indeed the White man) if anyone who knows a little history then you'll know full well that things did not exactly end all to well for them.
As a children's TV show (during the 1980s anyway...) this wonderful series took the bold move to show the darker side of history, which is part of the appeal that this series has for me, even now as an adult.
Sure it had it's lighter moments, it's sense of wonder and adventure, plus it can be very exciting, just like many other shows of it's day (both live action and animated) plus it's wonderful music (which for me has a somewhat melancholy air to it) but for me it is it's wonderful darkness that isn't quite at the forefront of the story but rather gives the show it's real 'teeth' and for me makes the show a very important one for me, of which I'll explain in a bit.
For those who haven seen it the series is clearly intended to be a coming of age story for Esteban, in many ways what the tale is really about is that of the whole process of ones loss of innocence as one goes out into the world.
As an Aspie, I find psychology fascinating, although it's not the main thing that I'm into, so this series has much appeal for me beyond the SF concepts, the adventure, the humour and the historical aspects.
As it happens, just so that you know, I am, for the most part, someone who prefers to look on the bright side of life, preserving my own personal 'innocence' (if you should call it) is very important to me, and while I very much enjoy watching series and films which deal with dark subjects, I believe strongly, whenever possible in avoiding situations whereby one could become 'corrupted' by the evil of the world (I'm happy to add that Esteban does in fact do a good job of preserving his own innocence in spite of the things he encounters in his adventures) and therefore 'become evil' myself, of which I believe must never, ever happen to anyone for I consider that to be a weakness and a personal tragic loss one which I feel means that you somehow lose a part of your humanity.
It's a little hard to really explain this clearly, but I hope someone out there understands what I'm on about.
    Goodbye, Till Next Time...

Very true! Though nowadays, the representation of the Native people might be dated, it still was an important step to representing the truth of history.

@Kimo01 the music at 2:20 is only available as the background music of this video. It was not released on the soundtrack LP. And, as you may know, the original music tapes seem to be lost. I have been collecting mp3s of the series, but I haven't found this one.

    • @SICKDOAPNIXON
      @SICKDOAPNIXON 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The silent double consonant in Camaillo must simply stem from the french version, seeing this was originally _a French-Japanese production co-produced by DIC Entertainment and Studio Pierrot._ (wiki)
Which would also be a strange explanation as it's also mayonnaise in French rather than maillonnaise.
      *whatever* :D
