I bought the BM3 license anticipating doing the FEMCO unlock, but have been on the fence, for many of the reasons you mentioned. Great video on the JB4 thanks!
Awesome video. Just like everyone else was on the fence about JB4. I literally have the same background in cars as you. Came from the boosted V8 world also, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I joined the Facebook group and looking forward to talking with you.
It's horrible dealing with tuners. I'll send a log then wait 3-7 days to be told something looks off and I need to fix it.. I'll troubleshoot, send a new log, and then wait another 3-7 days, only to get the next one-line response.. I'm a month into this process just wondering when I can drive the car again.
I was all in in getting the JB4 but i heard BMW can still see the changes and will still void warranty :( i just bought my 2024 m4 competition xdrive 4 weeks ago.
Personally, I’m not messing with anything which could void the warrant until the warranty runs out. Not worth it to me since I’m not planning on racing or tracking the car.
This is an excellent, unbiased and very compelling review for anyone on the fence about modding their M for performance improvement. Great Job my bro! Couple of questions for you. Recently picked up 2022 M4 Comp X-Drive Convertible and likely to get JB4. My last ride was 2022 LCI X3M and after installing Race Chip Black GTS and ER Mid Pipe, the car was fast AF but too loud especially at cold start. Are there any other hardware mods I can install that will increase performance but not create excess fumes (live in Florida and drive with top down often) or make the car too loud at start up? Would really appreciate your insights here as you clearly know your stuff. (Will join your FB group now)
Thank you!!! Truly appreciate the positive feedback. Congratulations on the new purchase. I too had the same concerns as you as far as exhaust modifications, on my car I have a single midpipe only with stock muffler and downpipes. Imo the sound and performance gain is perfect for a daily driver .

Appreciate the overview. I have same concern with DME unlock for my m340i daily. Was concerned about the inconsistency I read in the JB4 forums. Might give it a chance, do you recommend a forum for the B58?
You know what I’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on a jb4 and installing downpipes but now I’m second guessing it lol but what do you think about mid pipes ? Will it make the car go crazy ?
I’m honestly in a very similar situation to you: I had a JB4 on my 330i and didn’t really like it because I wouldn’t feel that big of an increase and the gas here (CA) is shitty 91 and even with E mixes, I could never get the logs to look perfect like so many others with 93 and E mixes, which left me very frustrated. Now I have a G87 and am once again considering the JB4 option, I don’t want to go too crazy on the power, I think map 2 would be more than enough for me. I’m just wondering if you think the logs will be wonky using an E30 ish mix with 91 octane because if it is, I might just pass on tuning until flash tunes become more accessible for post 2021 cars.
I'm just not understanding the comments about Catless downpipes. I've seen dyno charts where the downpipes actually smoothed out the power curve with the Jb4. I'm sure it needs to be dialed in differently with downpipes of coarse but it's gotta be easier on the turbos to breathe more freely than having to run more boost to net the same gains. Either way, I notice there's certainly a lot of confusion about this topic. A lot of guys say the same about the downpipes not making much of a difference in power between the Bootmod stage 1 map vs the Stage 2. Then you have some guys running custom tunes claiming they gained 80whp. One thing I'll say everyone seems to agree upon is if toy want big power E85 mixtures "E30+" is the Way
@@MichaelSchwab-nk4rm you’re not wrong! I personally feel the downpipes cause too much of a disturbance without an actual tune for most. Definitely requires a custom map 6 to run optimal, I do however think the AA catted options are a good compromise. I may bite the bullet on a set!

Thanks for all the info. Just got my JB4 a couple days ago. Still trying to learn more about the different maps and the fuel options.

Me too was on the fence of sending the Ecu to femto. I heard the jb4 installation is a headache. Where are you located Erick?
In NJ, it’s just one plug that’s a PITA but can be done with a little patience.

I had an m340 and now own a g80. If you have the option unlock it and do a real tune JB4 isn’t worth it for the m340
I’m contemplating between race chip and the jb4. Still cannot decide. I just want a piggy back tune.
Well you know which one got my Vote!
Racechip is great, noticeable performance gains

Do you know if the car is flagged for having a tune? Just curious.
It is not
If something big warranty wise would happen they would know
The ECU will show more boost fueling etc .BMW can read it .the standard parementers have been exceeded and it gets logged .
