Nice video of a great bike ! I own a black TDM 900, year 2013. Bought it 17 oktober 2018 with 4900km with Akrapovic exhausts. Now, 25 oktober 2022 it has 63000km and I am still very pleased with it. I gave it some updates on the airfilterbox, installed a Power commander 3 and K&N airfilter, put Denso IX24B iridium sparkplugs. It has 95 hp and 95 NM and has fuel consumption average 20km/liter. I also changed rearwhealsprocket to 43 teeth instead of 42. Thanks again for this nice video and I hope you enjoy the bike as much as I do !! 👌👌👍👍😃😃
Cheers Martin, they are indeed a great bike and I'm enjoying it immensely. Mine is also a 2013 model which I bought in August 2021 with 11,000 miles on it. It was difficult to find a low mileage one as people tend to keep them because they are so good. I bought mine having previously owned a TDM850 which I sold with 65000 miles on it (approx 104000Km). Mine is currently mostly standard but your mods sound to be really effective and all something I'm considering. Nice video and good rationale for buying one. I bought a new 2002 TDM on first release and put 165,000km on it over 19 years before a good friend decided to sell his '98 model TDM with only 26,000 on the clock and I couldn't help myself. Sold first one to a very happy chappie and I trust this newer one will give me just as good a run for another ten or fifteen years. I did find the bike fuels and runs more smoothly when you remove the rear baffle in the pipes, plus it sounds glorious without being too ostentatious. Down here in Oz the twenty litre tank (closer to 21 if you're patient) will easily see you to the next petrol stop even way out west. I've managed 420km with a little still in reserve. With Yamaha panniers, tank bag and dry duffel bag it can carry a lot of gear and I find interstate trips of ten hour days quite comfortable. Best all rounder bike I've ridden although I did rather find the Triumph 1050 Tiger Sport I hired in the UK a while back pretty good, but even more top heavy than the TDM.
Yamaha have always impressed me by being focused on 'doing what it says on the tin', especially their engines. My first go on a full-fat RD 350 racer was beyond impressive, then I tried a TDR 250 on road tyres with TZ reeds, that was just an uncontrollable, bunny-hopping laxative that went everywhere sump-guard-first. Always amazed that their motors can take all kinds of tuning abuse & generally survive. Instrument makers indeed, so well tuned to the customer's wants & needs . . . (did I really just write that . . ?) Pass the bucket & enjoy the bike : )
Who hasn't almost fallen asleep at red lights, waiting on a wet Dream? 'Tedium' isn't that bad & given the bike's nature it's a nice irony. I'm told 'Panigale' is some kind of fancy bread roll - eg. if you've got the bread, roll with it : )

Cheers Gary, the cold thing is all new for me; I've spent my entire life NEVER feeling the cold. Once upon a time it was a standing joke amongst the Collective that you could tell it was winter when I put a long sleeve t shirt on 😅 but now, my hands particularly, are freezing. Its a great bike and does everything well .. And to get all of that into 190kilos is black magic . Considering our dl 1000s were 220 kilos plus to do a similar job . I too am looking at lighter bikes for when the day comes .. Much as I love my huge muscle bikes I just can't handle them around the garden any more .. I saw a cd175 on auto trader ( tax and mot exempt ) in running order . But I also keep seeing gsx750f's .. they're a good all rounder low seat and 190 kilos ish ..the last one I had was great but I saw the shiny xjr and the rest is history ... I think ( I know ) you've made a great move for you're situation .. Peace and love brother and enjoy the 900..👍🏻☮❤
I think we have a similar outlook brother, 190Kgs is about as light as you can get in anything like this capacity, so it'll do for me. I did a quick and dirty refurb of a crashed CG125 a little while ago and have come to appreciate small capacity Hondas all the more as a result, I may yet be tempted to add one to the collection 🙂 I hope all is well with you and constantly improving 'til ultimately that day comes 🏍 Take it easy
There are many many Yamaha bikes under rated yzf 750 R being the most prominent. The Blade took the shine off the YZF but having had both the Yamaha will beat a blade hands down in my humble opinion ?? Looks very similar but when it comes to performance and handling for that matter again in my humble opinion having done track days and long distance rides the Yamaha gets the marks !!! Off track a little there but you do get where I am comming from I hope ???
Mine was a great bike but it had one glaring problem. With fitted side Givi panniers it would involuntarily change lanes when a large truck passed it at highway speeds. It also would badly be blown about in sudden cross winds. Without panniers it was not a problem. Otherwise a very good bike but would of been better with ABS with the Australian models.
They are indeed a great bike Peter. I've not experienced the problems with luggage as I don't have any fitted. I did to my TDM850 which didn't experience such problems, but then it is somewhat heavier. There was an ABS model in the UK but there aren't that many about as none of the variants sold particularly well here, weird really because they're brilliant if a little quirky. Hand muffs make it even better. I find winters of around 1-5 degrees Celsius comfortable even with summer gloves on. Include some Oxford heated grips and it's a complete world of difference.
Funny you should mention the TDM... I'm 66 now with a gammy leg and my wonderful TRX daily rider is getting a bit long in the tooth..... I think if it ever blows up a TDM just might be the next big thing. ;-) 😉 🏍
Funnily enough I've constantly got my eye open for a TRX to "roadsterise". Ditch the fairing, top yoke conversion and bars, big round headlight. One day maybe 🙂

I enjoyed your video. I am thinking of getting a TDM 900 myself. I wanted ask how comfortable it is hours in the saddle so to speak. I am 6 foot 3 inch tall. No one ever mentions this info in a review. I was wondering if you are a taller rider.
Hi Cliff, I am 5'10" so somewhat shorter than you, however, although not that heavy, the TDM is a physically large bike so is unlikely to feel cramped and it's quite a reach to the bars, which are a traditional type handle bar so there is some degree of adjustment. I routinely ride mine for around 180miles at a time in comfort. The only possible issue I perceive at your height is wind buffeting above the screen but aftermarket options are available. I hope that helps 🙂
Really nice video and seems like a great bike. Im just about hanging on to my tiger 955 but it’s so big and top heavy I’d love something a little easier to move around. Thinking a Yamaha could serve me well for long term but there are so just many to choose from. What do you make of the fz bikes?
The 955 Tiger is a great bike Trev and if you love that then you'd definitely appreciate the TDM, it's a bit lighter although the Tiger is quicker if that's important to you. In my experience Yamahas are well designed for day to day use and are easy to live with but I don't have any ownership experience of the variants of FZ. I have ridden a couple of older ones and found the R1 derived engine to be fairly eager and sporty which is great for B road blasting or hacking through traffic but not as good for relaxed riding as a muscle bike or big twin.

@@2WheelTrev The SV is obviously quicker having a 100cc and 20bhp advantage but as the TDM has a 270 degree crank they both display similar characteristics. I did used to own a V Strom 1000 which is essentially a detuned SV1000 engine (which itself is essentially a detuned TL) which is a really good comparison - quicker but taller and heavier but was brilliant on an overland trip I made to Spain a while back. Give the TDM a try if you're able to find one, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised 🙂

I recently bought some heated gloves Martin, and my life has improved significantly as a result 😀
