I have this pen in the grey color. The blind cap does come off so you can use converter like a piston fill. I couldn't figure out the metal cap over the converter either until you showed how to push it hard onto the converter. Wow, now we both learned something.

My guess: The little extra free floating metal piece is a cartridge stabilizer. So that if you want to put a cartridge in the pen you put that piece behind it and it secures the cartridge to the feed by buttressing it against the end of the barrel.
Yes, I agree, my Pilot CapLess came with something similar. With the capless it makes a bit more sense since there is the mechanism that moves the nib and then that piece is supposed to “protect” the cartridge... but here... 😄😄

As with the last review of Bexley in Arco Verde, I agree that Armando Simoni Club (The Pen Family) prices are -for me- too expensive. It is not racional to pay $400+ for a pen with just a gold nib... this is way out of control.
Manufacturers need to stop trying to make converter pens into piston pens. It never works correctly and actually cheapens the perception of what could be, just a great converter pen. Anyway that's my opinion.
Beautiful writer helped along by a very attractive ink. Your comment about the black mark on the barrel made me chuckle. It's sort of like color inconsistencies that can appear in granite counter tops (mine) that you have to try not to notice. Even at $275 for a steel nib, I would be put off by some kind of cover rattling around in my pen. Although your demo of it fitting then operating the converter makes me think it's for the converter but somehow came loose.
Hmm.. let's sit and contemplate just how strange a 'blood orange spaghetti fountain' might be.. Do you approach with a bowl? A plate? A big drinking cup? That's a wild looking pen, boss. Thanks for sharing n

When you were talking about the conical cap finial I happened to have looked down at my lunch and thought you said 'comical' so I quickly looked up to see what was comical.
I just received this from the LA pen show before the pandemic, and my thoughts about this issue is that the metal cover for the cartridge/converter is meant to protect the inside of the acrylic resin material. This is, of course, thinking that it was part of a blind-cap system. Who knows!

I am guessing that the converter sleeve is a weight balance. If you write unposted, it gives a better balance. If you use the pen posted, it should be off. At least that is how I use it.
Manu/ASC bought Conway Stewart USA, not Conway Stewart. It was the US distributor for Conway Stewart. The Conway Stewart brand is stil owned by the Conway Stewart Holding Company, though it seems to be little more than a series of names and a lack of will/money to challenge ASC is the courts.

Any sense if Leonardo Officina Italiana manufactures these pens too? Material akin to Momento Zero Hawaii, with those resin stripes. Seems Leonardo makes pens for Wahl-Eversharp and for ASC.

Beautiful pen, like the honest review but: There were quite a few "rides" that current pen companies took over pen companies of days past - most of them embarrassing. I can not think of even one such attempt that was more than an old badge over new stuff. So when you think about it - why do that?? If we want nostalgia, and we do, leave things the way they were: Conway Stewart made such beautiful pens...

That pen is a real eye catcher and it does write beautifully with that juicy nib,,,, can’t figure out the loose thingimebob inside unless the blind cap does come off in some secret way to use it??? The Conway Stewart name thing hmm ! bit of an oddity where two modern companies are using the same name, you’d think there would be some kind of copywrite issue ??? Or a falling out about it.? 60 years ago, my sainted mother showed me reverse writing. With the simple mind of a teenager, I asked "That's stupid, and do you ever do that?" To which she replied, "Of course not".
Hi.... I use reverse writing if I've made a spelling mistake and I'll write the correct spelling over the top or if I've left a word out eg. 'and' I'll put an arrow pointing above the two words too show I've forgotten a word that is required to make sense... > but turn it upwards....That's there only instance I would use it,,, to squeeze corrections in. But weren’t they using stock from Conway Stewart to make the pens as well? Nice pens.
BSP used stock nibs and material. Also many of BSP’s employees are ex Conway Stewart staff.

People who use fountain pens to sketch will often flip the nib around to get a finer line for creating poche/shading.
