    What stunningly beautiful scenery, and that picture perfect gorgeous ocean, this is truly the stuff of dreams!
    You look to be perfectly content in your videos, and with your proven capable compact cruiser in that fantastic environment, I can understand why!
    Thank you for sharing your lovely craft and adventurous sailing locations.

    Dave, thanks for speedy Paradox plans sent out last fall. I’ve watched this video countless times and it drives me to keep building and recreate this trip with a goal of March 25’ cruise.

    Great video on micro cruising. Thanks for posting it. I have a pocket cruiser but certainly love micro cruising.

      I'm glad everyone liked the video. It took me around 18 hours to reach Bimini from Key Largo, Florida. I left on 5-20-13 at 4 pm with the wind blowing 8 mph out of the SE and the seas running only about 3-4 feet. The main challenge was keeping watch on all the ships that crossed my course throughout the long night.

    Yep, sailed her from Rodriguez Key, Key Largo all the way out to Georgetown, Exumas. Then headed back up to Staniel Cay from where I crossed over to Andros.

      I think it took around 17-18 hours in a 8 mph headwind out of the Southeast. The average seas were running about 3-4 feet so it was really ideal conditions for such a tiny boat.

    Yes I sailed Enigma from Rodriguez Key in Key Largo to Bimini. I then went on to Chub Key, Nassau, the Exumas, Andros and back to Miami where a 38 foot rowing shell hit me while I was anchored and put a hole in the side. So I picked up the boat in Miami with my trailer, hauled it home and fixed it. It's now ready for a Spring cruise.

      @@davidbolduc828 excellent. I’ve since (that last message 9 years ago) retired and have been cruising my Microcruiser Sweet Pee (you can see it on my TH-cam channel under my name) and on other boats also.
      My bucket list is the Bahamas on Sweet Pee with its 12 inch draft. The Florida Everglades challenge and the Texas 200. Hope to see you out there one day.
      Your enigma design was what inspired me to build this Microcruiser. A tour is also on my TH-cam channel. Ciao.

    How much did it cost to build Enigma & how many hours to build it? I want to build a 16 ft with 4 ft beam for the Hawaiian islands. I live on the North Shore of Oahu near Waimea Bay.

      The designer, Matt Layden, built the boat for around $1400 in his spare time. Then he went out to sail it in the 1200 mile Ultimate Florida Challenge www.watertribe.com/Events/Default.aspx . You can see some pictures of the original construction at physics.bgsu.edu/~layden/FunStuff/Boats/Matt_Boat/matts_boat2005.htm . Also, there was a bigger 4.6 meter version built and shown at e460.blogspot.com/2007/03/one-and-only-truly-original.html . Hopefully, I will get some new videos made this Spring as I got a new 4K SJCAM action camera for Christmas.

    Oh, here's the video :)
    You *do* have an engine of some sort with you, don't you ?

    • @jcmorgan26
      @jcmorgan26 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dimitris Tripakis i dont think he does. But theres no problem because without it he has the freedom to go wherever he wants while staying fully eco-friendly. And also with such a small boat sculling isnt a problem if needed.

    • @davidbolduc828
      @davidbolduc828  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, just used my sculling oar to get around. I had to scull Enigma 12 miles back to Florida on my last trip in 2013 when the wind died as I was crossing the Gulf Stream. However, I've made the trip to the Bahamas many time before in my 15' sailboat, Little Cruiser, using an auxillary engine. However, the engine is a PITA to maintain in the long run so if you can wean yourself off it, you will be a better sailor in the end. Of course, the original designer and builder of all my boats, Matt Layden, never relied on an engine in all his travels.
