I’ve seen some unfair comments here made towards you guys, you’ve always gone out of your way to show your respect and appreciation for Queen. And being that you’re younger than many of us, it’s understandable your reaction to the label ‘rock band’. But I think you’re beginning to learn from some of these comments that in the ‘70s some of the greatest rock bands, including The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Queen had many soft folk and acoustic songs with not even any drums. Led Zeppelins Going to California is considered one of the most beautiful songs of all time and it’s pure folk, and has nothing to do with their other mega hit Whole Lotta love. So as another commenter suggested, this is what we were used to hearing when we were kids in the ‘70s and not unexpected… a rock band generally covered many genres of music... But once again I have all the respect in the world for whether a song turns you on or not. There are plenty of songs from the ‘70s that I can’t stand that others love lol!… Love your reactions!
Thank you! You have been a voice of reason all throughout our journey and we appreciate that about you. We know that many reaction channels don't share their true feelings and that spoils people who expect to only hear positives. If Queen fans who watch regularly don't know how much we respect the band, they never will, at this point. Example, Coach loves Audi vehicles and has had several, but their RS6 Avant wagon is just ugly. Yet, we know someone buys it, and it doesn't make us appreciate the brand any less.
@@CoachCastTV for sure! And somebody on this thread asked you to play Queen‘s let me entertain you. I absolutely hate that song and for me it was the end of Queen lol! But somebody’s gonna like it. 😮
@ That song is basically saying "I'm a musical prostitute" like in that interview. Yet I understand that song is not necessarily "pleasing". It is kinda "uneasy".
@EdA1 sorry man but Let me entertain you is a great song. But like I say you don't have to like every song. Queen tried stuff that obviously didn't work so they went a different way. Afterall I believe Rodger & Brain didn't like the stuff put on the Hot Space album. But there are still some great tracks on it.
@@CoachCastTV Hi, Coach. My apologies for our tiny disagreement today. Guess what? We have something (besides Queen) in common! I own a 2003 Audi RS6 sedan. It's a beauty, not worth much these days but still hits 0-60 in less than 5 seconds!
This song is the exact reason a queen fan is a queen fan. The best thing about buying a new Queen album back in the day was you never knew from song to song what to expect, unlike other bands that when you bought their album you pretty much knew how it would sound ( same songwriter, same singer). Queen with different singers and song writers made them a much more interesting band to listen to.
That is also why many critics in the 70s hated Queen because they couldn't label then. They wanted to put every singer and group into a pigeon hole and you simply couldn't do that with Queen
A song only an Astrophysicist could write! Who else writes a song about the effects of time dilation? The song is about space explorers who embark on a year long mission but due to time dilation they come back and 100 years have passed and their loved ones are now gone or aged (their grandchildren).
_"...for my life, still ahead. Pity me"_ I fell in love with this song many many years ago when I was a teenager and it's still the one song from that album that I still listen to.
Queen guitarist Brian May wrote this. The song is about an astronaut who travels to a distant place at near the speed of light. Because of the time dilation that takes place at these speeds, he and his crew return home 100 years later. He has aged only a year but sadly finds that his wife has long passed on and that he is about the same age as his grandchildren, with everyone he knew before being dead for many years.
Brian: ... This is called '39. Freddie (using a whistle): Squeek😜 John (silent as always) 😅 Brian (calmly and politely inviting the public): If you want to sing along to this and join up, please do."🥰 Roger (shouting): SING ALONG!!!🤣 ❤❤❤❤
Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Coach. I am one of many that admire this group. As I constantly say, they are not limited to one genre of music. Probably because they each have their own composition. Very talented. I adore the way they respect and love one another. They are like brothers. They recognized the importance of each of them. Freddie Mercury never wanted the spotlight to be solely on him; Brian May and Roger both had the opportunity to sing. John, who is silent yet makes substantial contributions to the composition of music at Freddie's prodding. In my opinion, there will never be another band like this. When Freddie got sick and died, the love and respect remained. They do not forget each other. Although it's not rock and roll music, I'm delighted you enjoyed it. Thank you very much for your positive feedback. Mrs. and Mrs. Coach, your facial expression is so cute when you learn that it is not heavy metal or rock and roll music. And your response is humorous in Freddie's attire (nobody among the rockstars has the bravery to wear that kind of outfit except him 😆), and Mr. Coach knows Roger's voice right away. It's just enjoyable to see.
I love this song, it has such a fun bouncy country-folk sound to it. Freddie frames it perfectly when he say EYYY-HAW in one of their live performances. This is a folk song about the future which is different since folk songs are usually about the past but Brian has such a strong interest in space and astronomy that this is the perfect folk song for him to have written. Roger smashes some serious high notes. Based on Einstein's theory of relativity, there is a time loss element where if you are traveling forward at a certain speed, time actually stops or goes backwards (time dilation theory) for that object, in this case the space capsule. So when the travelers return to earth, having lost contact decades before and presumed dead, they find that their families have all died and they are still young. The subject finds his grandchild and sees the eyes of his own daughter in theirs. "Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me." This is on the album Night At The Opera which is the album which really shot Queen into their greatest recognition as a band on a worldwide stage. I think this may have been a "B"side on a single but I boungt albums not singles so I am not certain. Also, folk music was still popular at that time. This was a fun song for the audience.
Understanding that this wouldn’t be a “rock” song a traditional sense but this was an album track from A Night of the Opera. The album was a journey in musical styles bringing the listener along almost as is they were attending an event. Bohemian Rhapsody and You’re My Best Friend were the singles bringing you to the album. It’s a small reflection of who they are and a reflection of one of many influences.
Different, yes, but that's why we love Queen. I always loved this song live, as they moved to the front of the stage. I can appreciate your dislike for country music, as I can not turn the radio station fast enough when an AC/DC song comes on. Thanks for the review. Boomer Sooner.
This was on the same album as, 'Death on Two Legs', and, 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' Those who listened to, 'Night at the Opera', soon discovered that Queen were very versatile with the type of music they could produce. The same album which also has Vaudeville style songs on it and one that's ukulele based, as well. So, a huge amalgam of different genres, and yet the album did exceedingly well. Enough to pique the interests of those who listened to it, as least.
Well, Coach, you gotta take into consideration that back then, there was no internet, pre '81 no MTV, no streaming. You'd hear a song on the radio and have to buy the album. I don't remember this as a single or getting much airplay. I do remember hearing it on "A Night at the Opera" and when I saw them in 1980.
This was one of my favourite parts of the concert I went to in 1977. The whole arena clapped and sang along. I loved seeing Roger at the front of the stage singing. I've always loved this song. John learned to play double bass for the studio version just like he learned how to play electric piano for You're My Best Friend. I am not a country music fan either, '39 is more like a British sea shanty. It was George Michael's favourite Queen song. He sang it when he used to busk in the London Underground as a teenager.
I am a huge Queen fan since the beginning I am with you coach had it been my 1st. Queen song not sure i would be a Queen fan just glad they didn't have a genre.
I'll just write that this song was one of the first I heard from Queen, when in the early 90s the editor of the local newspaper gave us a collection of the band's songs to listen to on an audio cassette. ♥️ Thank you
"Your mother eyes from your eyes cry to me". The traveler arrived back home to find out his wife died. This song is about Einstein's relativity theory. Time passed slower for the crew of the spaceship, while on Earth everyone was older.
I love that each member of the band felt able to write a song to their own taste, with full support from the other members to record it. In fact Brian sang lead on this on the album, although as you saw, Freddie did so in live shows. Brian still performs it live, after explaining the science behind it to the audience.
Yeah, that is a great thing they had going for them. And from what we've read, there are some songs that certain Queen members don't like, and so it stands to reason that would apply to their fans, as well.
You know what guys, I appreciate your point of view but I absolutely love this song, it has it's place on the album and I always look forward to it coming on, each song on the album "A Night At The Opera" is very unique and no two songs are similar. It's what helps to make one of the greatest albums of all time. If you listen to 39 a dozen times I'm sure you will be singing along to it before you know it. The song itself is about a group of volunteers flying into space to discover a new planet because the Earth is dying. They are gone a year but when they get back to Earth the Earth has aged one hundred years, not time travel but space travel. There are a number of clips available of Sir Dr Brian explaining the song......
Another great Queen reaction video I watched both the studio and the live and you know what voice performance is bring a unique perspective not just because once lived in one studio but because Brian singing on one and Freddie singing on the other between you and me if Queen was to make an album with Brian and Rodger singing lead on songs I would buy the album I really appreciate that you don't just react to popular Queen videos you reacts to even some of the less popular stuff best couple to react to Queen videos ever keep up the great work
One of my favourite Queen songs (I’m 45, if it gives any context). I’m generally drawn to Brian’s songwriting, of all the band members, and that may have something to do with it, but I can understand it’s not everybody’s cup of tea! Obviously it was never a single, but I think among Queen fans, this song holds a special place. But if it ain’t your thing, it ain’t your thing! 😂
Hey Coach - When I saw that you were doing this song, I could have predicted your reaction. While I knew you really wouldn’t be a fan of this particular song, I do appreciate your honest assessment of this piece. I have always loved this song because it highlights the diversity of the band’s talent. As always, a great reaction!
This is not a genre, this is Queen! 😁 Brian and Roger were/are true rockers, John was a funk and r&b soul, Freddie was the very eclectic one, but they spent 20 years together. According to several interviews or articles, there were songs in their catalog that was hated by the other band members, independently of the songwriters. The most wonderful thing is, that despite of all these issues they collaborated in shaping the hated piece.
You know, that is actually a very good point. We know from what we've read that some of their songs, their own members didn't like, but they worked together anyway. That's an important lesson.
As someone who graduated high school in '73, and listened to a LOT of rock and roll I think you don't have a clear picture of our rock listening environment. Many of us also grew up listening to a lot of folk rock, too. We listened to entire album sides in one play on the new FM "underground" stations which were breaking the AM pop station conventions as to content and play time (most radio listening was AM radio before that. We literally had to add after market FM to our cars. . Many bands had a variety of styles. Led Zeppelin also did some folk inspired songs, as well as reggae influenced. We did not judge a great band on one song, rather, appreciated their variety and talent. Folk rock was a big part of the rock scene in my rock and roll youth. Our radio stations played it all, as well as blues rock. Personally, I love 39. What's not to.love about a space travel folk inspired song by a rock band as part of the amazing A Night At the Opera Album ( I still have my vinyl record album). Roger's etherial soaring vocals were inspired! I love that Queen can do rousing sing alongs, awesome rock songs, and moving ballads.
Thanks for that perspective. As '80s teens, the folk wasn't a part of our sound at all, with the hair metal bands and other hard rockers leading the way. We can appreciate that this song may resonate with a lot of people.
One of their best underrated gems, especially with Roger's high note! Definitely need to react to Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy live Top of the pops 1977! The melodies and harmonies of that song are beautiful! One of my absolute faves especially the live version! Keep up the great content! 👍🤘👌😎🔥💯
Very quirky, funky, FOLKSY indeed! Yeah, it was a time dilation distortion thingie. In the first version, Roger & Freddie's backing vocals are there. The 'ahhh' from Rog, the vocalization of "he-ah (hear) my call" from posh sounding Freddie. I'm alway in for a Brian-lead song. In the live version - John just plugging away with his awesome bass. And there goes Rog and the Yee Haws (look at that smile. he's such a darling) & come on, Freddie in orange and green harlequin unitard! He still gives the audience his all & encourages them to sing along (despite themselves). HaHa. That's on charismatic lead singer right there.
On "A night at the opera" this track was sandwiched between "I'm in love with my car" and another Brian May track called "Sweet lady" which is a traditional Rock n roll song, also at this time the guys were vying for space on the albums so it was very competitive.
Ok Coach, you need some good old fashioned rock and roll from Queen next. Time to do Fight From the Inside. As a bonus you'll get Roger as lead vocalist!
Only Brian can write a song about the theory of relativity and break it down into a folk song, such is his genius of both music and astrophysics. The song is talking about time dilation as you travel closer to the speed of light, so when a year passes for the people on the ship, a 100 years passes back on Earth. No hate from me though, if you aren't a fan of it, that doesn't mean you are less of a fan or not a true fan, different strokes for different folks as the saying goes.
Brian and Freddie especially tried always to pioneer new things for the band, whether they were related to music, touring, tech, lyrics, collaborations, recording, media, fashion, etc. at least do it once and do it at the highest level
I love love, love this song! 2 years ago, when we saw Queen + Adam Lambert in concert, here in LA, it was so folksy, we all sang along with this song! There is a meaning, i remember Brian explaining that in an interview but i can't pull it up right now. Oh yes, that is Roger's falsetto you hear in this song! You guessed it right, Coach, time travel! I know it is a bit far-fetched for most people to appreciate, but so many of us who know that much about Brian May's artistic and brilliant mind, we embraced it! 💕 Queen can not be put into one genre of music they crossed many genres, they wanted to be different, they didn't want to be a cookie cutter rock band and they succeeded! I enjoyed watching both videos! Peace ☮️
This reminds me of some scenes I've seen in British movies where one sits down with a frothy mug of brew and the enitre host sings along. I remember an interview with Freddy when he was asked about how Wings didn't bother releasing "Mull of Kintyre" as a single in the US because it was it was specific to Britain. It was a major hit in England however.
I love this song!! And yes, its about time and space travel. I already expected that Coach wouldn't be the biggest fan of this song, but I love how you still appreciate their talent, despite this almost having a country vibe to it. Anyway, when Coach said "Yee haw" I immediately thought of this th-cam.com/users/shortskNuw8OJ3eGk?si=NKgaNCRSpkQ5DAP6 Apparently, Roger was thinking the same thing. 😂 Great reaction as always :)
For some reason cannot get that link to work either on phone or PC. But thanks and yes, we know this type of music is something many people enjoy and we can respect that. :-)
The song relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realise that, due to the effects of time dilation from traveling at relativistic speeds, a hundred years have passed on Earth, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead or aged
Intelligent writing by a very intelligent man, I scifi movie that kind of has been made that shows what Brians writing about "Interstellar". I love this song, it was a firm concert favourite for a good number of years.
It's weird that you didn't know that Brian was a massive Lonnie Donnegan fan ( skiffle musician from the U.K ) , but I digress as a lot of Queens shall we say off beat tracks are some of their best. I struggled with a lot of their 80's output , especially Hot Space , but with a bit of perspective have grown to appreciate it for what it was/is . Anyhow , keep up the good work , love the good work . Love from the U.K .
I’ve seen a few of your Queen reactions, and they’re all very good. I like what you’re doing here with this comparison of ‘39; between the studio version and how it was played live. If you’re interested in doing a further comparison of this song, could you compare the version performed by George Michael & Queen at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with the acoustic version by Brian May during their Return of the Champions tour with Paul Rodgers in 2005?
This was channeling Brian’s love for blues /folk music and space travel…Brian loved performing blues, but also loved rock…..this song is quite sad in the lyrics, although the music is ‘folksy’, it became quite popular among many..thanks for your great reaction.
Yeah, we had been asked to do this a lot so we know many love it. It takes all kinds to make the world go around, and it's great we are not all alike. It's the same with food, cars, clothes, etc...we all have our individual tastes. But whether this fits someone's taste or not, you cannot deny the talent.
Coach, I agree with you . I am not crazy about this song. In fact, if this would have been the first song I heard I would not have even listen to another Queen song. I am a big fan of Queen, in fact, I have 6 dvd of their concerts. By the way Freddie called the fans Queenies in 74 concert at the Rainbow. That is where Queenies came from.
Good to know about the history of the term, and that it actually came from Freddie. Some seem to love that name, and others seem to dislike it very much. LOL
A bit of trivia of '39 song for Mrs Coach: The song is Queen's 39th album song (if you count all Queen songs on their studio albums) but planet Mercury is also 0,39 astronomical units away from the Sun... A coincidence? 🤔 Brian's mind is working all the time 😅 (he planned claps sequence at We will rock you in prime numbers 😮 so the dilays don't interfere with each other) so I don't think so....
Iris, that is a nice bit of background information about the song title 39, I was not aware of that, I only became familiar with the song about 3 years ago and I loved it ever since I found the lyrics to know what the song was about, I just need to find out Brian's inspiration on how he came to write the song. Thank you for sharing your comment! Peace. ☮
@janethernandez724 I'm glad that you learned something new about '39. Our astrophysicist Brian was/is fascinated with space and wrote a futuristic skiffle song about space travellers. ✨ Simply great. Enjoy!
As far as I'm concerned it's strangely FANTASTIC. And, I AM a rock/metal fan. I think maybe your reaction demonstrates, in part, the American obsession with 'genre'.
To clarify, it's sound, not genre, to which we refer...that is not a sound either of us care for, having been raised around a lot of country, bluegrass, folk music...we've heard it all our lives, and it simply doesn't resonate.
@CoachCastTV which is entirely fair, one likes what one likes 😊 But, as other posters have said, more eloquently than me, Queen did not restrict their sound to one type/genre, ditto other rock bands, eg Led Zeppelin. The beauty of Queen is that they expose the listener to sounds they may not have heard, or appreciated, before. Personally, I LOATHE C&W😂, and also jazz....but Queen's renditions of those, including '39, Seaside Rendezvous, and, (the quirkiest song ever), Good Company, are all good listening...as long as you know what to expect!😉
One of my all-time faves and not meant to be a goof at all! I think it’s a beautiful song and beautifully sung. And I think it’s also great that after the thousand Queen songs you guys have already done there are still more gems to be found! And actually, Queen was hugely popular in America until the early 80s. And this song was played on the radio quite a bit along with so many other huge Queen hits. Like Zeppelin, many loved the occasional acoustic song done by a band and this song was loved as well. Others may correct me, but it wasn’t until I want to break free in the early 80s that sunk queen in America.
Thanks and yes...their catalog is huge and we've still only just scratched the surface. We know there will be ones we love, ones we like, some we're neutral on, and some we don't care for at all, and we'll be honest, but respectful throughout. Thanks again!
@ absolutely that’s what makes the world go round! And I totally respect coach if this isn’t your cup of tea. But I did want to make the point that many rock bands from the 70s grew up listening to music in the 50s and early 60s, especially the English bands and we’re very influenced not only by blues and early rock ‘n’ roll but yes by country, folk and bluegrass. So these things you hear them doing are just showing their love for a wide variety of music from very light to very heavy!
Appreciate that. We all approach life from our own perspective (which is perfectly normal) but we do have to realize there are different ones out there and that's all OK. We appreciate you!
Dr. Sir Brian has such an underrated voice and is such a great storyteller! As others have said, 39 is a space folk ballad about astronauts who go off in search of other planets to colonize ("The milky sea" very pretty and clever way to describe the milky way). Brian was working on his phd in Astrophysics when the band really took off, so he had to put his degree on the back burner. He definitely put his science knowledge to good, artistic use in this song by specifically blending in Einstein's clock paradox theory. The theory is when you travel at the speed of light, you'd think only a year has gone by, but on earth, probably one or two hundred years have gone by. Basically its a 1970's precursor to the movie Interstellar in less than five minutes, but more accurate. When Brian wrote 39, he thought the space travel colonization concept sounded cool, but given the state our planet is in environment wise not so much. Dr. Sir Brian sang '39 during the 2014/2015 and Rhapsody (2019, 2020, 2022-2023) Queen and Adam Lambert tours. He also did a little intro storytelling about the scientific aspects, the song's inspiration, sometimes give a shoutout to Einstein, and (specifically in 2014/2015) introduce the "members of the space crew (band)" and they take the audience "on a trip" with the song, such rollicking fun. Another song on "A Night at the opera" that Dr. Sir Brian sings lead on is called "Good Company", highly recommended.
I like folk (and quirky folksy stuff), I like SF, and I like this song as a result; however, I completely understand your perspective. As for the live version, it's certainly clear that they hadn't quite reached the heights of showmanship they did later, but I'd rather watch something like this than something which is choreographed to perfection and autotuned to hell (or even mimed)!
You've listened to enough Queen to know they offer a variety of genres. Chuckling at a Scottish folk song? Brian's imaginative storytelling and poignant lyrics brings tears (to some). "I do wonder sometimes if people kind of get in a groove of things they like and when a band steps out of a specific genre, it’s kind of off putting.." "They get tunnel vision, they don’t want to open their minds to something that may not be in the norm." ~ Coach & Mrs. C (Leroy Brown reaction)
In almost everything you read, Queen is labeled a rock group, and in fact, we have read quotes from Roger saying that they are a rock band. Therefore, if someone is seeking a new rock band and stumble upon a song like this, it would be off-putting to them, since it's clearly not rock. Musical taste is similar to other tastes, be it food, or clothing, or cars, etc. For example, there is no amount of opening your mind to certain foods, clothes, etc...and that also applies to music. We like what we like, we don't like what we don't like...that applies to many things in life, no matter how open minded you may be...some things just may not resonate. And to clarify, yes, you should be willing to listen, but that does not mean you will like a style that you simply cannot identify with. Being open-minded doesn't automatically mean you suddenly like something. :-)
@@CoachCastTV You aren't expected to like everything suggested, of course, but dismissed this one as if it had no value. Commentor "dwgrly" made all my points. Rock stems from a variety of roots, including folk music. LZ is a good example (with Celtic style, as well). We got to know our favorite bands through LPs. The time spent and choices made in the studio brought insight to their influences and individual styles. It was an immersive experience, too bad it's fallen away. (Side Note: New artists of the 60's, 70's were, as youth, influenced by music of the 30's-50's. Queen (especially Freddie) took full advantage of those influences!)
I guess the thing with most real Queen Fans is the following : We are proud that we got a Band here which is not simply sticking to a certain genre only. At the time if you have been in school you were usually an Outsider. Usually you got the "accepted" bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple. If you said you like Queen you were not taken seriously to say the least. We flew under the Radar. Like those weird Computer nerds in the 80's. But look at today - I guess Queen made it to the top because of these Outsiders and Nerds in School 😁In a way this is a Nerd Song. I was surprised when I first heard that song - I thought the song would be about WW2 🤭
As I've commented earlier, this is my all-time favourite Queen song. For the studio version, Brian half-jokingly suggested John played upright bass for the sake of authenticity, and he actually showed up with the instrument a few days later. It was a good fit. The style is known as skiffle, which is indeed close to country/bluegrass, and which was quite popular in Scotland when Brian was a child. Brian's English but his mum was Scottish. The harmonies are a bit ABBA-esque IMO, especially in the studio version.
Have never heard of skiffle before, so we learned something today. We know many people like many different types of music, and that every type doesn't resonate with everyone. But you definitely cannot question the talent and creativity in this band.
It's always been poignant with me. My mum was born in 1939. She was born just short of a month before the UK entered the second world war. I always used to joke and say to her that it was her fault.
When I was 14, my mum asked what I had been doing in school. I told her we had covered the same war. My mum said, "That's not history, we were in it." I said yes you were, but it's history now. I was so bemused by her reaction.
well guys, queen wasn’t that popular in the states only since 1984 onwards because of the song „i want to break free“ from back then and its video where men were dressed in women‘s clothes singing about women wanting to get free from men. this was the reason why americas stations banned them back then because of conservatism. it‘s in many interviews of queen. there‘s a saying about queen: there is a queen song for every situation in life. that‘s how diverse they are. of course, it lies in the nature of diversity that there are songs you are not able to like. but at least one can recognize their huge musicianship through it. and that‘s the reason why they were so huge throughout the whole world at the same time. america you missed out something from 1984 onwards. at least you kept your memory about queen from the time before 1984.
I really love your comments:)) although I love the song- And yes: Roger has some super high vocals- and he can rock too Keep up the good work , for example The millionaire waltz, that will certainly bring a smile on your faces, or .... the song Doing alright from their first album_ great entertainment rockin value, with no dull moment in sight
Guess you had to live in the time but this, like any other Queen song, is amazing! When I was in Jr High, this album resonated with me somehow. When I heard it, we didn’t have the luxury of what a genius Brian was or that it was SPACE TRAVEL. So many of us just liked it. I refer to the operatic part as “Walt Disney wind”. This and Master Stoke both did the Walt Disney wind thing. AWESOME
I think someone probably said this, but it is about time dilation, due to them going the speed of light, they only aged a year, while everyone else did 100. So, points to Coach for saying it’s a folksy time travel song. John Deacon actually played a double-bass on the album, Brian told him that as a sarcastic remark, but a couple days later, he showed up in the studio and saw John playing it.
I've been watching a lot of reactors doing this one lately...and i've been singing it all day to myself in work! I think it's catchy as h ell! :-) But then I like most genres of music including classical, opera, folk, country...if it's a catchy tune...it's a catchy tune! I only know Queen really from their singles, I never bought their albums, so to me Queen were never really 'heavy rock'. They were canny enough to put out singles that the 'general public' would like...and put the heavy stuff on the albums for the rock fans. Saying that, I'm about to buy their first 3 albums on CD, because I've got 'Stone Cold Crazy', Keep Yourself Alive' and their first hit single 'Seven Seas Of Rhye' (which I've always loved) stuck in my head! :-)
Hahaa ... only our astrophysicist Brian could wrote a skiffle/folk song about time travel and Einstein's relativity theory 😮. So: a space ship went to seak new worlds and it returned 100 years later, but for astronauts just 1 year has passed because they've travelled near the speed of light. They sadly discovered that all their loved ones are long gone and they are welcomed by their aged grandchildren ('your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me').
Remember this was around the time of Woodstock. There were a ton of "folk songs" played there. This makes it not an unusual song for that time. You want rock Brian? Sir/Doc Bri with the Brian May band "Back to the Light" (the remastered version "time traveler" Is a fun version. It's a Coach song!
Speaking of country music, have you ever reacted to Chris Stapleton? He takes country into the soul/blues realm better than anyone alive. I'm not, and never have been, a country music fan, but Chris Stapleton is a different kind of animal. Try it, you'll like it! It's at least as good as K-Pop, for sure. 😉
Hey team ‼️what the folksy 🤠obviously not written for a rock sound. Just another different genre of music they can pull off for people that appreciate that sort of music ⚡️confirming their number 1 status
Okay, guys, I guess you Americans don't have the tradition of the sea shanty we have here in the UK, maybe because you threw a hissy fit and decided to be all independent before you could even toddle (sorry, but I'm an historian as well as a Queenie). If you did know about sea shanties you would realise that only Queen could take the genre and use it to write a song about Einstein's special theory of relativity. The rest of the band didn't hate it that much because it went on A Night at the Opera, which all know was their breakthrough album and they performed it live. By the way, most Hot Space is not 'rock and roll', but that's Queen for you. Live and learn.
PhD candidate 180+ IQ astrophysicist, inventor and world renown guitarist who goes on to get his PhD and collaborate with NASA writes an entertaining lively ditty about …. astrophysics. Mr.and. Mrs. Coach: what made him write this folksy thing that’s not rock? You could ask the same of Freddie’s distinctly gospel/R&B Somebody to Love, his non-rock homage to Aretha, or his performances with Montserrat Caballé. Rock didn’t spring into existence without outside influences. Queen’s enduring popularity is rooted in their fearless exploration of many different genres with the vocal talent, songwriting and musicianship of four closely bonded bandmates with a crew of consummate professionals equally dedicated to the vision. BTW, Coach back before you were born, people bought and listened to different genres - radio stations routinely played records by Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, the Beatles, The Jacksons, the Commodores, Carole King, Bill Withers, all within the same hour. Variety TV shows featured performances from different genres - we didn’t limit ourselves.
It's perfectly OK for people not to like certain things, such as art, food, fashion, autos, etc. When you taste something you don't like, you may gag, make a face, or worse. A reaction channel SHOULD be for honest reactions...although we're aware many simply want to have reactors to be their echo chamber and reinforce what they like. We make no apologies for being honest about what we like and what we don't. In fact, several Queen fans in these very comments feel exactly the same way about this exact song, or others that we liked when we heard them. If someone has an issue with anyone having their own opinions, it's a commentary on them, not the person who has the opinion. We should celebrate that people are not alike and appreciate the diversity. We are very aware that there are many people who want people to only share their beliefs and their likes. We have no issue with people liking this type of sound, just like we have no issue with people having different opinions about a variety of topics. We do think it's very disingenuous that some expect 100% positive reactions or at least watered-down opinions. That isn't what you'll find on our channel. We will call them as we see them (or hear them, in this case). And speaking of different genres, I think we have that covered...from Russian DeathCore to symphonic metal to pop to rock to rap...it's all on here and we give honest opinions about it all.
I love this song so much!!! One of my fav Brian's song!!! I love it!!! N apparently it talks abt the time dilation between earth n the space!!! I also love Roger's high notes!!! Its such an amazing song!!! Is so pretty!!! But ofc is not for everybody like u 2 said!! Pd: also...personally my fav live version of this song is Hyde Park 1976 :) Good video :)
Geez, surviving all that 😮🤔 comments about your reaction I strongly recommend KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE 😅 (seriously, it's Queen's first single from their first album, it's not folk song at all although it's early Brian's creation😜) Sorry for a bitter☕...
It's down to expectation really. When the bar is extremely high, it's easy to be disapointed, when your expectations of a group/band/sound are low ( k- pop for example ) everything is seen as not bad at all, when in reality the latter cannot be comparible with the former for musical instrumentation and talent. Try listening to ' In My Defence ' sung by Freddie Mercury, there wont be any mocking of that performance.
Sure, expectations can impact things, but we had no expectations of this song since we didn't know much about it. We've heard other queen songs that don't resonate with us, either, so we don't always expect a song we like from them. Regarding K-pop, that's a matter of personal preference or taste as well, but we actually come to expect very high production values from the art coming from Korea at the moment. There's nothing in the West being currently produced that rivals it, in our opinion. Plus, there are a huge variety of sounds in that industry, some we have really liked, some we didn't like at all, and said so in our reactions. Everyone not liking the same thing is what makes the world so wonderful as we have a wide variety.
When you are about to listen to a song from queen for the first time, you have an expectation of it being of a certain standard because it is produced by Queen. For sure you don't have to like what you hear ( I have 19 queen albums ) and there are some songs within these albums that I don't particularly like, but I would never lend myself to laugh at or mock at the sound out of respect for the achievements and knowledge of what I had heard before. K-pop on a personal level I cannot take seriously for the lack of traditional instruments used with the over reliance on technology and some sexualisation of the music videos, which all becomes distasteful when their main target audience are teenagers. I have watched hundreds of your videos and actually tell my wife of what a nice couple you are ; but I have to say when I feel a reaction has crossed the line into a belittlement of the artists, especially when by a general consensus with some logic applied that they were collectively, highly talented as the statistics behind the group testify. On this basis the reaction was not a testament or a fair reflection of their status.
We appreciate your right to your opinions. Queen is a great band and anyone who has paid attention to our reactions know we respect them. However, they are not sacred and from all we've read they poked fun at each other and the song ideas the other members had all the time. In fact, we know some of the members hated some of their songs from comments that viewers have shared with us. (Not to mention many Queen fans have mentioned in these very comments that they also have songs and even entire albums from Queen they strongly dislike.) You cannot have a music catalog that large, especially when you change up genres so often, and not have this reaction from many listeners. Some of their music videos are seriously irreverent and poke fun at themselves. You absolutely have the right to feel however you wish, and we respect that. However, folksy, bluegrassy, country, etc...is not going to be something either of us like...just not gonna happen. We grew up listening to it our entire youth...we've probably heard more of it than most people. So when a song slips into that territory, we'll tell our real feelings about it, just as we do with songs we like. That's why so many people have said they watch our videos, we don't hold back if we don't like something. We don't pander for views or likes. And we don't want future generations of Coach family (grandkids, etc) to think we liked something we didn't like...and to us, that is far more important than if someone is offended at our honest reactions. Again, we appreciate the dialog, and all your views. Just trying to ensure people understand where we're coming from on this topic. And if we run into other songs we don't care for in the future, which is absolutely bound to happen, we'll be real again.
I have no problem with you being real or disliking a song and there is nothing worse than being fake or woke, but I would not , out of respect, be mocking a group of the stature of queen. Yes they did take the mickey out of themselves, but that is a groups perogative, they have earnt that level of self critique. Brian May might not think this is one of his best, but there is a difference between someone saying ' not one of your best brian ' and openly taking the 'p' out of it. This is how it came across to me.
Also I would like to add that Queen through their professionalism and pressure to meet certain levels of attainment as requested by their record company/label would not have put the song on the album unless they were happy with the output. They certainly would not have compromised their musicianship for laughing at their work at a later date.
Haha, as you know the list of requests is long but we'll definitely keep this in mind. Feel free to remind us again if we don't hit it in a little while.
I've been with you guys since the beginning. Am I a little sad you didn't like the song? Yes. Would I prefer you faked the reaction, as a lot of "reactors" do? Heck, no!!! I've always appreciated your honesty, that's why you're the only reactions channel I follow. So what? Queen is so diverse that it's impossible, even for hardcore fans, to like everything (I dislike several Queen songs, and that doesn't make me less of a fan...)
Hi folks! Now seems as good a time as any to mention that Queen invented the "unplugged" craze that swept the country ten years later. It was the "A Day at the Races" tour when they all came up front and did "'39", a bit of "Killer Queen", a bit of "Seven Seas of Rhye" and back to "'39". That, of course, evolved into the "Love of My Life" with Freddie and the Doc that we all got to see every tour after. Yeah, it's folky; try to hide your disappointment, Coach. It's kind of a drag going into a song knowing you're probably not going to like it. I can't wait to find out what Mrs. Coach is finding so funny. I think it's kinda sad; the Captain comes home after so long exploring that his wife and friends have all died and his daughter is aged. No time travel-not in the Star Trek sense. Just space exploration. In the Star Trek sense. Oh well. Must just be me. Maybe shoulda skipped to the next song, Coach. "Sweet Lady". The lyrics are nonsense, but it's a banger. Just a thought. If you don't like a song, you're not beholden to post it. This seems like a good place to stop.
That would be pretty disingenuous to post only reactions to songs we like. We expect the vast majority of our viewers understand not everyone likes the same things. Those who expect everyone to like the same things are living in a fantasyland. And sometimes people not only don't like something, but they have strong dislikes for certain things. That's normal. Any other mindset is not very well-adjusted. We realize many reaction channels don't tell the truth, and so have probably spoiled people who want to hear only praise for every song from the favorite bands. From the comments it seems most of the Queen viewers understand, and from prior comments we've read on other videos, many of them also have plenty of Queen songs they don't like at all...and they are still Queen fans.
@@CoachCastTV Don't misunderstand. My comments-my reaction, as it were, was just about the reaction itself. I know better than most how Queen lands sometimes. When "Jazz" came out, I hated FBG and BR so much I felt like a traitor. Now I'm grown and know that everything isn't a home run. Or even a sacrifice fly. But you seemed so *uncomfortable* with it, both of you, it's like it was hard to watch. Believe me, I don't expect anybody to like anything. It's the main reason *I* don't have a reaction channel.
We respect that. We grew up in a very rural area where most of our elders played folk, country, and bluegrass until we honestly just couldn't stand it, and the rock of our era was a welcome reprieve from that. So anytime we hear this type of sound we flash back to that time in our own history. Those are things unique to us, that many may not know or understand. It is somewhat painful as we don't have fond memories of that type of music.
@@CoachCastTV Understood. Ironically, I came to respect the music of my elders, that very same bluegrass music, only when I became old enough to really "get" it. (I never could stand country.) Here's to light at the end of the tunnel for us all. ❤
@@cainealexander-mccord2805 These are important conversations, because celebrating our differences AND those things we have in common are both truly important in today's world. From what we've read, some of their songs weren't even liked by members of the band, yet they worked together anyway.
Hello Mr & Mrs Coach. Yes I agree 39 is a strange song. But the album it came off A Night At the Opera. Was an album that they pushed all frontiers of there music ability. So like all albums your not going to like everything on it but give it a pass because of the rest of the great tracks on it
“ ‘78” !🤣 (My husband will APPRECIATE that joke, he’s a Math Geek)😘 One of my biggest “frustrations” is the fact that there is a terrible LACK of good-quality Queen video footage from the late 70s! There are one or two other live performances of this song that are better-quality footage than this (this video was pretty awful, wasn’t it !?!) but the better videos AIN’T easy to find!😄
@ Well, if it was a song you guys were in love with, I could find you a different live video that’s better video (and much BETTER audio) than this one… but I figured maybe you weren’t necessarily interested in hearing the song again?😜
I love this! Just heard it with Roger and Brian I think its better than this to be honest I'll leave it here think you'll enjoy it th-cam.com/video/GwpcNKdxsz4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-VE8NfN3UcN6Es10
tHIS IS A CLEVER SONG understand is a west style not the conquest west is the space comquest relavity theory you travel 1 year and in the earth was 100 years
No tiene nada que ver ,pero reaccionen a Xlov con su tema debut imma be , es un grupo súper talentoso y quedarán sosprendido ❤quisiera ver qué piensan saludos
Haha...so this is funny, in our initial opening segment on our reaction to 'Stay' by BLACKPINK, Coach addresses his relationship with country music. It's worth the couple minutes at the first of the video, even if you don't watch the whole reaction: th-cam.com/video/giwVagR1cUg/w-d-xo.html Coach even mentions Tammy directly. LOL
hi FOLKSY sorry Coach and Mrs coach, fair enough reaction it's not your kind of song but the fans love it, anyway enough of this negative waves,I suppose FREDDIE'S outfit it top of your Christmas list lol😅 P.S. I love this song .
What's so quirky about folk music? John Denver, Jonie Mitchell? I'm not even american and I love them. And anyway, Queen is not just Rock and roll band. They're Queen. Have you heard Good Old Fashioned Loverboy? Queen did the best quirky songs too. If you laugh at this, you must be belly rolling out of breath lolling when you hear Mustapha, or Bring Back Leroy Brown..
Thanks for the explanation.
Only Brian May would write a folk song about space exploration😅
Brian: ... This is called '39.
Freddie (using a whistle): Squeek😜
John (silent as always) 😅
Brian (calmly and politely inviting the public): If you want to sing along to this and join up, please do."🥰
Roger (shouting): SING ALONG!!!🤣
❤❤❤❤
Hello, Mr. and Mrs.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!
One of their best songs.
It was indeed written about time travel. I love the line 'as night followed day' where the spaceship breaks out of our atmosphere into space...
At the concert from 1979, Roger did the same as The Coach, yee·haw, at the intro)))
Just so much fun.
I am a huge Queen fan since the beginning
I am with you coach had it been my 1st. Queen song not sure i would be a Queen fan just glad they didn't have a genre.
I'll just write that this song was one of the first I heard from Queen, when in the early 90s the editor of the local newspaper gave us a collection of the band's songs to listen to on an audio cassette. ♥️ Thank you
Brian is just ahead of many of us in his mind 😂
You have to give kudos to Roger, it’s not easy playing bass drum standing up!
Yeah, no doubt.
Another great Queen reaction video I watched both the studio and the live and you know what voice performance is bring a unique perspective not just because once lived in one studio but because Brian singing on one and Freddie singing on the other between you and me if Queen was to make an album with Brian and Rodger singing lead on songs I would buy the album I really appreciate that you don't just react to popular Queen videos you reacts to even some of the less popular stuff best couple to react to Queen videos ever keep up the great work
We appreciate the kind comment. Thank you!
The reason that i love this song live is that i get to see all 4 of them in front of the stage
Excellent backing vocals from Roger as always
One of my favourite Queen songs (I’m 45, if it gives any context). I’m generally drawn to Brian’s songwriting, of all the band members, and that may have something to do with it, but I can understand it’s not everybody’s cup of tea! Obviously it was never a single, but I think among Queen fans, this song holds a special place. But if it ain’t your thing, it ain’t your thing! 😂
Love this song about the time/space dilation. Such a sad song I think. A folksy yeehaw Roger 😜
Thanks very much!
Get ready for seaside rendezvous...
And Good Company!
It's sooo good ❤❤❤I love Roger's high notes❤❤❤❤
This is not a genre, this is Queen! 😁
Brian and Roger were/are true rockers, John was a funk and r&b soul, Freddie was the very eclectic one, but they spent 20 years together.
Exactly! The LP listening experience is lost on those under 40. I blame the IPOD.
Hihi and Freddie's "c'mon blondie' 😂 to Roger in one of the gigs ... Simply hilarious.
On "A night at the opera" this track was sandwiched between "I'm in love with my car" and another Brian May track called "Sweet lady" which is a traditional Rock n roll song, also at this time the guys were vying for space on the albums so it was very competitive.
Yeah, we've read how they sometimes had strong disagreements about songs.
"Bring back Leroy Brown" is another Queen masterpiece
Yes, on the channel now, in fact. :-)
Ok Coach, you need some good old fashioned rock and roll from Queen next. Time to do Fight From the Inside. As a bonus you'll get Roger as lead vocalist!
Ooh...good to know! Thanks!
Queen can not be put into one genre of music they crossed many genres, they wanted to be different, they didn't want to be a cookie cutter rock band and they succeeded! I enjoyed watching both videos! Peace ☮️
Thanks, Coachies.. I can tell you weren't so much into the "folkey" Brian May stuff, but still... I enjoy your reactions...
Thanks very much!
Anyway, when Coach said "Yee haw" I immediately thought of this

Apparently, Roger was thinking the same thing. 😂
Great reaction as always :)
For some reason cannot get that link to work either on phone or PC. But thanks and yes, we know this type of music is something many people enjoy and we can respect that. :-)
@CoachCastTV Oh, in that case, you could just look up 'Roger Taylor Yee Haw' and then you'll find a video similar to what I have linked :)
Hahaha! Just saw it. Coach and Roger are so much alike it's scary!
Sir Dr Brian May calls this type of song a "skiffle"
Many thanks! We'll definitely consider that.
Queen is my favorite band ever.
LOL
A bit of trivia of '39 song for Mrs Coach:
The song is Queen's 39th album song (if you count all Queen songs on their studio albums) but planet Mercury is also 0,39 astronomical units away from the Sun...
A coincidence? 🤔 Brian's mind is working all the time 😅 (he planned claps sequence at We will rock you in prime numbers 😮 so the dilays don't interfere with each other) so I don't think so....
That's truly interesting about the name of the song.
I just cannot wait for these guys to get to the millionaire waltz, seaside rendezvous and good old fashioned loverboy
Good stuff. Thank you!
Love this song should try white man
I like folk (and quirky folksy stuff), I like SF, and I like this song as a result; however, I completely understand your perspective. As for the live version, it's certainly clear that they hadn't quite reached the heights of showmanship they did later, but I'd rather watch something like this than something which is choreographed to perfection and autotuned to hell (or even mimed)!
Please do Let me entertain you,Dead on time. Also Scandal, Invisible Man,And The Miracle.
Exactly!
Queen were/are different because their diversity.
For Coach and Mrs Coach there are a lot of different Queen songs to explore.
Coach, it comes across like the old black and white soundtracks of the 50’s and 60’s outer space films
I really love your comments:)) although I love the song-
And yes: Roger has some super high vocals- and he can rock too
Keep up the good work , for example The millionaire waltz, that will certainly bring a smile on your faces, or .... the song Doing alright from their first album_ great entertainment rockin value, with no dull moment in sight
Thanks very much!
@CoachCastTV a reaction without humour is as good as no reaction I say
Thanks for confirming. Yeah, that's just crazy how John could do that on such short notice.
Hi Coach you should try Dead on Time from their Jazz album. Little gem this song.
Hahaa ... only our astrophysicist Brian could wrote a skiffle/folk song about time travel and Einstein's relativity theory 😮.
this was never released as a single was an album filler and tbh one of my fave records
The next song from the band "Queen", which I recommend to you, is "Headlong"!
Hey team ‼️what the folksy 🤠obviously not written for a rock sound. Just another different genre of music they can pull off for people that appreciate that sort of music ⚡️confirming their number 1 status
Next please reaction to Queen - The miracle ( official video) 😢😅🤔😅😅😅💜💜💜

That's on the list to do soon. :-)
Pd: also...personally my fav live version of this song is Hyde Park 1976 :)
Good video :)
Roger did sound good!
High notes from Roger. Low notes from Freddie. Lead by Brian. Yup. It's Queen.
@@CoachCastTV for sure he did
There is also a live version with George Michael on lead from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
@@chicochi3 but that was Somebody to Love....not 39
Geez, surviving all that 😮🤔 comments about your reaction I strongly recommend KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE 😅 (seriously, it's Queen's first single from their first album, it's not folk song at all although it's early Brian's creation😜)
Sorry for a bitter☕...
Play that Folksy music Coachboy 😂
🤣🤣🤣 Best comment of the day!
Oh and what about Procession/Father to Son double Session ? Only asking 😉
Haha, as you know the list of requests is long but we'll definitely keep this in mind. Feel free to remind us again if we don't hit it in a little while.
@@CoachCastTV You know it was sooo long ago. It's like in the song, lol. 😁Just making Fun.
Well said. That's a perfect reaction to a reaction. Thank you!
You may try Gimme the prize or Was it all worth it, More hard rock n roll...

Yeah it is a shame about the video quality.

Haha...so this is funny, in our initial opening segment on our reaction to 'Stay' by BLACKPINK, Coach addresses his relationship with country music. It's worth the couple minutes at the first of the video, even if you don't watch the whole reaction: th-cam.com/video/giwVagR1cUg/w-d-xo.html
Coach even mentions Tammy directly. LOL
Yeeehaaa 😍
🤣
A great fan favourite. I really think you need to open your minds rather than mock. I watch the live on another place
hi FOLKSY sorry Coach and Mrs coach, fair enough reaction it's not your kind of song but the fans love it, anyway enough of this negative waves,I suppose FREDDIE'S outfit it top of your Christmas list lol😅 P.S. I love this song .
That particular Freddie onesie is not one Coach could probably rock, if we're being honest. LOL
GTA San Andreas 😂😂
