Should you level or lift you Silverado HD? | Diesel Pros

  • Lifting vs. Leveling. I detail some of the major reasons why we always recommend a 4" lift over a leveling kit on the GM/GMC Silverado/Sierra... if your budget allows.
    This is a Cognito Motorsports 4" lift on a 2021 Silverado 3500 HD. Tires are a 35x12.50r20 Toyo Open Country CT on a 20x9 (0mm) Hostile wheel.

    Lived with a 6” lifted Duramax - never again. Leveling is more than enough. I’d add coil overs and eliminate the antiquated torsion bars. Straight axles are easier to deal with. Looks like a good kit. Love the Chevy

    Kryptonite is the best stuff on the market for a Duramax. I've got their stage 3 kit (upper control arms, ball joints, shocks, keys) and I would say the truck rides the same as stock if not smoother.

    If you Level your Front end (usually 2 to 2.5 inches) most people forget to realign your Headlights. You risk Blinding oncoming vehicles. I found out this way by experience. Easy to reset your headlights, 2.5 inches lifted/leveled, 2.5 inches down on on the realignment. Turning the alignment screw is all it is.

    had a leveling kit, worst mistake ever, destroyed the ride feel, destroyed the steering comfort. also when i loaded my bed it sat squated in the back and destroyed the driveability. so if you are using your truck like a truck and hauling loads NEVER level kit it.

    One small detail you left out, a lift kit is permanent as you have to cut into the frame. It’s irreversible. No more auto car washes, parking garages, maybe even your home garage. A lot of disadvantages to a lift vs a level. Cognito UCAs greatly diminish the CV angle issue and allow for 37s with just a 3 inch level on the 2024s. And cost, levels are a lot cheaper.

    I've had 35X12.5R18 on factory wheels for 15,000 miles now stock height and have never rubbed once why would a 35" tire rub on a truck with a 4"lift?

    • @DieselPros

      35's generally don't with a modest offset but 37's do. Factory wheels are great for keeping clearance in your wheel wells. Great option if you're not lifting.

    • @DieselPros

      With the arms parallel with the ground there is no negative change in down travel. No need to cut those upper stops off if I remember correctly.

    I thank you for your explanation. I’d love king shocks to fit either 35 or 37 Toyo M/T but then again I know nothing about Suspesion. Although I was told king shocks would level front end. • @DieselPros
      @DieselPros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend a 4" lift if 37's are in your future. A 6" would be better suited to the 37" tire size but we've done 37's on the 4" for the 20-21 pickups. Takes a lot more trimming. Like I said in the video, the most durable way to do it is with a 'lift kit' in my opinion. Give our sales team a call and they'll help you through the decision making process sir. 406-551-2777

    • @DieselPros
      @DieselPros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also Jose, Shocks alone will not lift your vehicle in any regard considering you have a 2500HD. They use torsion bars to set ride height, and shocks only control the movement. Hope that helps out some! Gary
