Andrew Petty that was my thought just. I can't even play keys at all and I always wonder why people bother to transpose I understand fingering is different but you can't run out ideas because every note connect to each other you just pick what degree in scale you want to put inside man
Really out of the box to the 7 degree. He is teaching theory on a whole nother level! When the brother asked what right do he has to pull from other keys; was golden. 😂 A teacher who had taught for years, told me you learn when you teach. Lol his question or should I say thought process helped me digest this a lot better. Lol
They are thinking about music theory in general but he is saying within music theory get the feeling of your own music. Music is first created in the mind. When you play by ear that’s what happens, you are creating from within. That’s what made it challenging for me to read music because I played by ear and created from within. It’s hard to teach that. He can really only describe it to them the best he can. This is such a great snippet of his class.
It's funny how they wanted a theoretical explanation for a talent that's inexplicable. The way in which he expresses what he hears is amazing, but the mystery will always be, "how does he hear what he plays?"
subjective @ rising sun, if one would spend time studying it with ample amount of time, it could be taught but I do agree this would be difficult but not impossible. The excuse would be to time consuming and it's mostly feel and feel is hard to teach...
Exactly bro. Q is talking about what he feels, what he is hearing in his head, and all the emotions that drives him there. To the student's defense, there is a theory behind it to get you to these changes but the feel that Q has is difficult to explain.
I went to Sean Wilson channel and he explained the theory that Q didn't say in this video. It starts with the relationship of the major key with it's minor thirds going up or down.
This is interesting. I think he pretty much said to explore to expand and everyone was still trying to ask about the bits and pieces within the examples of his soloing. Quenelle is soloing from what he feels; that which he learned. The reason why it's hard to reach a state that feels infinite is that we expect the same feeling we have with the vocabulary we already know to be that same feeling when we try new words. And that's why we get stuck. We think we have to feel it before we've learned it. The truth is that the most theoretical aspect of this example is to try different tonalities. Everything beyond it is just a pre-meditated technique applied and improvised to the topic in his soloing ( his shift in tonalities). I think that's why it matters less what notes are allowed or prohibited. And I think it's more about using what you know to explain what you feel. It's like finding different ways to say "Hello" and you choose the style of slang to say "wassgud". It isn't proper at all, but we all know it's the same thing.
True!Cory is an exceptional generational talent, but Mr Gaskin is one of the few old school cats I personally think can still teach Cory a thing or two.
@@ebenbgr8822, I just read my statement from 3 years ago. I would not make that statement today. I agree with you... The are both great in their own right, displaying the gifts God gave them. But, I should not have compared them to each other in that way.

It's Wonderbread on the one and twos!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But forreal, you got it broski. From a low-level Black gospel musician to an aspiring gospel musician.
It's An Open Field, When U Know Where 2 Run🎶.
Every key is connected and it gets to a point where it's almost impossible to "mess up" or play the wrong thing; that's one thing I've learned.

I am so blessed with this stuff sir, thank you. I ve heard plenty of people, u so inspiring
In classical terms i believe he's talking about the use and application secondary dominants and borrowed chords in this video
You got to feel it, 😆
A student mentioned Corey Henry as "the greats"... As good as Corey is, he could be Q's student.
True!Cory is an exceptional generational talent, but Mr Gaskin is one of the few old school cats I personally think can still teach Cory a thing or two.
Both can learn from each other just Watch Cory’s approach to improvisation per exemple to lingus ,quennel would never have those
And Cory’s type of playing is also differents from quennel’s but i admit Quennel could teach many stuffs of course to Cory

5:02 Quennel gives and answer to the guys question by demonstrating a lick and then proceeds to ask.. "What is that?" Lol I'm done
EXACTLY 🤣
Quennel: know what I'm saying??

Student: before 💀 tries to say "No I don't"
White brother made so much sense
They are trying to get the suck chords, which is cool, but he was trying to give them the basics which will build to that
Pls. What tone are you playing here? I mean the sound name or names?
4:50 Dude ask question
5:03 Quennel answers his question by opposing another
👍👍👍
I wish I could be black, go to a black Church, play black music, but I was born in the wrong place.
Good thing you at least don't need to black to learn it LOL
No you weren't. Thank God daily for how He made you as a unique individual. Bemoaning how God created you is like saying that He made a mistake...
