      Yeah that is my point. I guess it is just far more optimised for PC where the console versions started life on Xbox one And PS4. Hopefully they can improve the Anisotropic filtering though as currently it is garbage quality. It's the same on Dirt 5 on series X. It makes the tracks look more like a PS2 game at times. Not sure what is going on there as they were the ones bragging about how the Series X had so much horsepower left over too. It might help if they used it instead of pretending to. If anything Dirt 5 has been downgraded as the track detail looked better in older patches and it still is high quality in the pre-race start until it shows your car on the track against the others then there is a noticeable drop in quality. I really hoped we wouldn't see this happen now we have the new consoles.

    Amazing game mechanics, art and looks. Reflections done right, not in your face, mirror everywhere, atmosphere was taken up another notch or two. What amazes me the most is the performance with reflections, unreal and buttery smooth, 3090, max settings (no motion blur, no DLSS) 1440p with max reflections and I get 170fps+ and after playing over 7 hours (probably more) zero stutter, absolutely perfect frame times. Never played such a smooth game as this or as consistent for every level. This is a weird game for me, first play through was a disaster for me, did not mesh. Now 3rd time through, it is fitting like a glove and loving it. Only the very best games I get a better experience when I play over but not to the level I am having with Doom Eternal. Great job ID on Doom Eternal.

    Targeting 30 FPS in the hardware we now have should be a crime. 60 FPS minimum, 120 FPS for fast-paced action games. I love ID, they have the best tech in the world and made the best FPS of all time in it.

    • @yancgc5098
      @yancgc5098 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Games won’t look better nor be more advanced than last gen if we keep aiming for higher and higher FPS. Which is why 30 FPS should still be an option for developers. Depending on the game of course, a game like Doom should aim for 60 FPS and have 120 FPS mode as a secondary option.

    I've been saying for ages that of all the ray tracing techniques I look forward to the most in the immediate future, it was reflections that stood out as the most important priority. Cubemaps are ancient hacks and it's high time they get put to rest. Screen space isn't viable imo as it is too prone to artifacting and clipping. Ray tracing is the way to go. I hope to see it find its way into all games in the near future as a standard. It's such a massive boost to visual fidelity and stability.

    What's ironic is that I never really noticed that much of a difference of Ray tracing on because of how rare it is used in later levels.
    Really doesn't have as much of an impact as it could if it was path Tracing instead of reflections... But I guess consoles can only handle reflections for now so it'll be a while until we get path tracing

    Hey John. Did you convey to him off the record that Anisotropic Filtering is turned off and should be turned on? I really don't understand how developers keep forgetting or are willingly lowering or turning off Anisotropic Filtering. It should be set to 16x by default in every 3D game. It's nearly free in performance since the NV40/R420 generation (17 year old GPUs) and gives so much visual gain. I really don't get it... :(
