36 x 18 x 36 Exo Terra Bioactive Terrarium build for Chinese Gliding Frogs

  • Enjoy the video! Here is the final upgrade for the Dude's Chinese Gliding Frogs. This is a 36" x 18" x 36" Exo Terra and are available for sale at the Dude's warehouse in Houston, TX. These large frogs are very destructive and require lots of space, UVB and a deep layer of substrate for burrowing. As you can see in the video, these frogs are very fast and strong, it was an adventure catching them in the middle of the video!
    The soil mixture is over 3 years old and is a fixture between the Terra Fauna and Terra Firma with the Dude's SuperGrow utilized as a drainage medium. The SuperGrow is used due to how often they spill their water dish and create excess waste. Not only will this help with drainage and aeration, it will provide the tree roots options for excess ground water if needed. These frogs were purchased from Shawn Harrington of The Frog Whisperer back in 2016. Due to their unique requirements and size they are for advanced keepers and are a treat for those who have them. The Dude hopes to produce CB babies in 2019.

    I'm not doing critters. But been planning a large plant terrarium. Too dry where I live to easily grow some of my fav humidity loving plants. I love these exo terra terrariums. I was in love with the bioactive 1 with a drain. But it's too small for what I hope to do. This set up tho...I really like this size. Thank u for show casing it.

    I really enjoyed you putting together a bio active terrarium. I have had panther chameleons, as well as veiled, I found it hard to keep the humidity. I think your setups are great if you can videos on your setups. Gotta have those timers for lights and misting is really important, takes a lot of the hassle to keeping the humidity in the cage can sometimes be hard!

      Steven Lannon the space in middle of the tank full of branches, is that what you are talking about?!?! are you serious this setup is prefect since now they use all space appropriately having a bare tank with no appropriate branching or spacing then they can’t really use the full extent of the cage. Have a ten gallon tank and not using the middle and top of the tank is not giving the animal the proper amount of spacing and also do you think a jungle where these frogs come from is uniform and bare

    • @TheBioDudeJoshHalter
      @TheBioDudeJoshHalter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Glow and Grow LED will reach the bottom of a 3ft tall enclosure if the size is appropriate. It would depend on your length. Keep in mind your wood placement as this will cast shadows, so any plant that is high light will need to be planted in the open.

      Once in a while yes, honestly, it grinds my gears if my lizards are too lazy to get them and they chirp and chirp all night. To help combat that, you can put tiny amounts of wet bug grub in the terrarium and it will draw the crickets, creating a feeding station. They get picked up much faster!!!

      Good evening, as long as your frog is not sick, or have any sort of consistent immune suppression from improper husbandry you have nothing to worry about, as long as they are not consistently eating it. For this enclosure, the mister goes off for about 50 seconds BID.

    • @TheBioDudeJoshHalter
      @TheBioDudeJoshHalter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Impaction usually happens when the animals immune system is repressed. Coco fiber can be a dangerous game with amphibians. I see all too often that the coco fiber gets water logged and stagnant which can cause bacterial and fungal infections in your frogs. Depending on the frog I recommend our Terra Flora or Terra Fauna substrate. I would not use CO2 for amphibians. Sometimes snails will be found in enclosure and unless they are in a dart frog enclosure, they're usually harmless.
