  • Hi guys,
    This week you see me going through the steps to set up my new sewing room. And I finally show you my stash (fabric & patterns)! Is my stash as big as I think it is??? Or is it very average and manageable???
    Your opinions would be interesting, please let me know in the comments below if I should be worried about it or not!
    I'm also interested to know what you might want in your 'dream' sewing room if you had all the money in the world. You might give me some new obsessions to strive for 😄.
    See you next week when I show you my recent makes. I hope you have an awesome week 💁🏻‍♀️.

    I moved last year and am lucky enough to have a dedicated sewing room. Not huge but well organised and functional I have a centralised cutting table with IKEA units underneath which is the best feature (2 garden bar tables butted together). I have everything I need but would love some of the hefty price tag items too I.e. air thread Overlocker, fancy Juki or Pfaff machine, Oliso iron, AO cutting mat 😂😂😂. Never gonna happen as I am retired and have to save pennies to see my grandchildren in Ireland(visiting is SO expensive from the UK). Your room is looking great. So lovely to see you settling in. Thank you for sharing your space and fabulous view of your gorgeous garden. Your stash is much, much bigger than mine but not too huge as You Tubers go!!! Enjoy sewing from it. 😊 Lynne

      @@SewMyTime Hi Lynne thanks for your lovely message. I'm so surprised to hear it is expensive to get to Ireland from the UK! But then, everything in life seems to be so expensive these days. Ikea is a new thing in NZ and I think it is much more expensive than in Europe and the UK but from what I've seen I think they are great. I appreciate you watching and commenting, see you again soon 🙋‍♀️.

    What a beautiful view to enjoy whilst you’re sewing in your lovely new sewing room! I’m sure that as you continue to use it you’ll find little tweaks that will suit your needs as they arise, but it looks very well organised already.
    As for the wish list, mine would also include an air threading overlocker, a cover stitch machine, an industrial straight stitch machine, a cylinder arm machine and a dedicated space all decked out with custom cabinetry and tables that are the right height for me to cut fabric. Obviously, that’s a lotto win type of situation, but a girl can dream!
    I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the size of your stash either!

      Hehe I hope you buy Lotto tickets every week! This sewing lark can be a bit on the expensive side! Thanks for your support on the size of my stash issue... good to know it isn't too out of control... and I have promised myself that I will work to reduce it. See you again soon 👋

    Catherine I loved seeing your new space and your beautiful view. Look let's be real. No one has a bigger stash than me😂😂. Mine is ridiculous. I mean yours is decent but I could practically own a fabric store with mine😂😂. Joking of course. I need to do the same. I'm trying to only buy the good fabrics which do slow me down. They really aren't in my budget while my kids are so young. Yes I need to sew the patterns I have too. I think there's just one issue I find is that I try to use what I have and use a fabric I don't love for a project but then I never wear that item. It's really hard sometimes to do the right thing. I love seeing your videos again. So happy to see your getting settled. Have a great week ❤❤

      Hi! Actually what you said about not being truly happy with your make because you "made do" with the fabric that you have on hand is so true. I am literally just going through that at the moment. I did naughtily buy some Nerida Hansen fabric when she had her massive sale on a few weeks ago but I'm still waiting for that to arrive. THEN no more fabric buying for me... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    So incredibly happy that you are vlogging again ❤ your sewing space is very functional,and your fabric storage is very well organized 👍 my sewing space is located in my living room, so thankful that I have space to have it here,my stash of fabric is not that big as yours but, I put myself on fabric ban for at least 6-8 months last year, just sew my stash down ,and it’s now much more manageable size. I’m now stopped to buy any fabric for this year -got unfortunate accident in may -broke my femur ,still recovering from it,this meant less money and other things that added up ,to not spend any money on pretty much anything for a while ,but I have still plenty to sew,no lack of projects 😂I was fortunate enough to buy a used Babylock overlock machine from my sewing machine dealer and I absolutely love it 😍.wishing you all the best ❤

So great that you had a fabric stash so you could keep sewing!!! See? Stashing is a GOOD thing!! 🤭 Its great that you have a machine you just love, I'm so happy with my Brother it does everything I could possibly want. Congratulations on your new sewing room! You have a wonderful view from your sewing table, I’m very jealous. I moved house earlier this year, so I can identify… only for me Im in the dining room and linen cupboard. However, I think we have something in common: revisiting all our fabrics and patterns when packing them up, and then putting them away, re-inspires us with sewing plans😂

    Catherine, i loved checking out your sewing room. Your stash doesnt seem too big, relax, its all ok. I tried both of those type's of iron that you mentioned and took them both back for a refund. The reason for me was they hurt my hand and my wrist when i used them alot. I found the Orsona? Too heavy.. i have had a previous injury that i need to be careful of. Otherwise i would have loved it, plus the steam iron with a reseviour.. tried that, same issue. So i am back to my normal style that self switches off and im happy. Enjoy your new sewing room! ❤

    Oh wow, I love your setup and the view out the back is fantastic. You’ve got me thinking about how I can rearrange my space.
    I’m pretty sure that is an average size fabric stash. I wish I had somewhere I could set up my stash like this. Mine is spread over three areas so it’s a bit hard to tell how much I have, I really need to sort it.

      Hi there, good to hear that you think my stash is 'normal sized, thanks for that. I have to say, it is great to open the cupboard and see everything all at once. I think I might experiment with how I choose my next project though... I might choose a fabric first then see what I can make with it rather than choose a pattern then see what I've got that I can make it up in.

  • @fionajohnson5842
    @fionajohnson5842 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Hi Catherine. I love seeing how you arranged your work area. I'm a dedicated dining table user. I could convert the downstairs bedroom into a sewing room, and I do have all my stuff stored there, but I love the space, light and views in our open plan kitchen/dining/living area - plus the heating in winter. And the three-sided kitchen bench is perfect for cutting out etc, so I'm staying put. Who needs a dining table anyway?! Going up and down stairs for the iron etc keeps me moving too, which I like. Stash size? My comfort level reaches a crisis when I get to 40 pieces of fabric, but I'm not sure how that compares with other folk. Doesn't matter anyway, stash size is a personal thing.

    • @sewmuchsewing
      @sewmuchsewing  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, I love your description of sewing in the open plan area, that really does appeal to me too. (Right now our dining table is covered with my husband's obsession... books. I'm "helping" him to downsize. Siiiigh, and I thought I had an issue with fabric and patterns.) Really, for me the ONLY downside to having a dedicated sewing room is the isolation from the rest of the house. 🤭 I can literally be in there for a while day sometimes!
