    I have both the X-T1 and the X-T2, and I gotta say, even though I have a deep emotional connection with my X-T1 (that's the camera I learned photography on), the advancements that the X-T2 made were not insignificant.
    The dials are shaped and work better (imo, the ISO dial on the X-T1 is a dumb design), you have a lil joystick to move your focus point, and if you want to do a vertical low angle or high angle shot, you have the second rotation axist on the screen to help you.
    of course resolution is higher and autofocus is better but I do not care about that, they're nice to have, not requirements. But the joystick and LCD upgrades are what make the X-T2 really worth it I guess. Also the fact that it has two SD cards so I'm much more comfortable shooting for other people with it, without having the fear of the SD card corrupting or something.

    I have been a Nikon dSLR shooter for decades. Earlier this year I picked up a beaten up XT1 and 16-50mm lens for peanuts with the intention of using my collection of vintage glass with it.
    I just can't get enough of it!
    I still use my Nikon stuff for sports and wildlife, but the XT1 is simply my favourite shooting experience ever. Even more enjoyable than my film cameras.
    Only thing I would want more from it is IBIS.

    Well done JMT. Thanks for this video. But, Oh Man, I've never been a fan boy for anything and then I came across the Fujifilm X-T1. Yeah, you know what happened. I picked up a used xt1 camera package with the battery grip and a Sigma 56mm f1.4 lens in great condition and now every where I look it seems every body has the X-T1. I hated the X-S10 because it was always a guessing game as to what those blank dials did, depending on what mode I was in? Who has time to remember each one?? I just traded it in on a used X-T1 and I love it. I’m not changing a thing on it. The dials tell me exactly where I am. No need to get fancy.

    You have an unmatched knack for summing up a camera's essence! As you'll recall, you inspired me to buy a Fujifilm X30 ('for someone who's serious about photography, but not too serious"). Now you've done the same for the-T1 ("it's small, but not too small; 6400 is no problem"; et al.). I've ordered one in silver to match my X30. The X30 will be my outdoor camera; the X-T1 my indoor.
    So my two cameras are both silver Fujifilms from 2014, each with a Gen. 2 XTrans sensor, a 2.36MP EVF, and a tilt screen.
    I was really hoping the X30 could serve as my only camera. But I can't use it beyond ISO 1600. Sometimes, I need more.

    Great video! I just picked one up for 50 bucks on Friday from a co worker. It even came with the thumb grip, extended hand grip and a viewfinder cup. He bought a new camera and then offered to sell me his x-t1 body with the accessories. I am taking my first trip to Florida from the pnw and I have never had a good camera. The last camera I had was a Nikon Coolpix 980 lol. So I really wanted a camera for my trip, plus for fun, as I have wanted a good camera ever since I had that Coolpix, but I just never had the money for one. I did learn a lot with the Nikon because you could shoot in manual mode and screw lenses over the fixed lens, but that was 12 to 15 years ago. I'm still waiting for my 18-55 mm kit lens to arrive on Tuesday, so I haven't used the X-T1 yet. I'm beyond excited though and I'll be taking it everywhere with me!

    Wow, this video just popped up in my recommendations, probably because I've recently been researching the X-T1 on Google, so TH-cam's algorithms must have saw that.
    I have an X-T2 and two X-T3 bodies already, but I have been wondering about the old 16mp sensor. Fuji is jumping up to 40mp on the latest X-T, but I'm more than happy staying in the lower 16-24mp range. I've read many reviews that say the X-T1's rendering is special and more film-like than the more recent sensors.
    I think I'll give this camera a try as I've located a renewed body in silver for a good price.
    I really enjoyed your presentation here.

    I have the X-T1 and will never sell it. It is a classic camera. Like the size, features and it produces really nice images with that X-Trans 2 sensor. But to do it justice, try it with the original Fuji lenses (XF 35mm 1.4R, XF 23mm 1.4R) which simply produce outstanding images. I have the F2 Fujicrons too which have faster focusing, but these older lenses are on another level of image quality. The XT-20 is also a great little camera for the price/portability for travel. Great video BTW, showing even older cameras can still fill photography needs adequately.

    Hi JMT, yes totally with you on this. I bought my XT 1 back in 2016 by which time the xt2 had just been launched. It took me right back to my Yashica file slr I had back in the early ‘80s. I subsequently sold my full film Nikon d600 and the d90 and now have two xt2s to replace those. I’m fully signed up to the Fuji system. I love the detailing, build quality, styling, ergonomics and RAW picture quality. Above all, I no longer get tennis elbow through carrying heavier cameras around. They’re great and no I don’t use the video facility on any of them and probably never will.

    Hi JMT, thanks for this video, it says a lot about one of the most accomplished digital cameras out there. I shoot film with older Nikon cameras and lenses, mainly B & W and save colour for the XT1. I'm very much 'old school' and one thing I disliked about practically all digital cameras is that they forced me to use the LCD back screen and not a viewfinder.
    However, there's a bright and large viewfinder on this camera with practically all the information needed to shoot with ease. Plenty of dials and buttons reminiscent of old film cameras, which I just love. The film simulations are great, rendering beautifully vibrant colour and contrast.
    I use manual focus lenses only and the combination of my Nikon glass together with a few of the ultra-large aperture modern MF lenses works very well for me.
    Keep on with the great videos please!

    • @bishopcolenso
      @bishopcolenso ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jmtphotographymedia My MF lenses are nothing fancy at all, I use Nikkor f1.8 50mm, f3.5 28mm, f3.5-4.5 35-105mm, TTArtisan f1.2 50mm, Zonlai f1.8 22mm and finally a Micro-Nikkor, which I use to 'scan' my film with the XT1.
      I like the Chinese lenses but had some reticence in buying them initially. The Zonlai focusses down to 6 inches and offers very fine results even at full aperture. I have a Nikon FE2, so am able to share the Nikon lenses with this and the XT1. I regret having sold a 50mm F1.4 Nikkor on an FM2N I parted with a while ago; may have to get another of those!
      I acquired a Minolta Hi-Matic rangefinder camera a while ago because like me it was suitably long in the tooth. That's brought back memories of when I first got into photography in my teens.

    The most fun camera I ever had was the Olympus OM-D EM 10. I sold it and got, what at the time was the much vaunted, Fuji X-100F. The images, tones and dynamic range were great (although sometimes a bit soft), but it wasn't as much fun as the Olympus. I sold it and bought the Fuji XT1. This was much nearer the fun I had with the OMD-EM10 (although not quite as much) and the images straight out of the camera were beautiful. I've thought about upgrading occasionally, but have always stopped myself because I love it so much (it's so small and light and I love the images). Most of the time I just have the pancake 27mm f2.8 on it and use either Velvia or my pre-set B&W menus for street photography. For night photography and portraits I use the 56mm f1.2 R. Hi JMT. Thanks for your thoughts on the Fuji XT1. I recently saw a Graphite Edition XT1 in Pristine condition with Box being sold at approx. US$470 locally. Actually, for weeks I've also been watching "XT1 in 2022" videos land they have caused me to wonder what the image and color rendering from the XTrans2 sensor are all about. I have an XT3 and the colors coming out of it are great as well but actually playing with the idea to even downgrade to a brand new XT2+18-55 kit at $830 approx. with 1 year warranty BECAUSE I don't use my XT3 for video. But the price of the 2nd hand XT1 and the brand new XT2 are a bit high and I don't know if that's worth it today. ALSO, what keeps me from seriously thinking about the XT1 is its leather covering peeling eventually. Has yours showed signs already? I don't want to buy something wherein it would eventually come off, let alone, supply issues of replacement leather coverings or even the cost of replacing it under Fuji out of warranty.
    Btw, how slow should one expect the AF from the XT1 to be? I shoot photography as a habit but of course there are instances where I need AF to be "faster" especially shooting my toddler.
    Your thoughts?

    • @jmtphotographymedia
      @jmtphotographymedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and your comment. My XT1 hasn't had any peeling of the grip as of yet but I have heard that problem before. But for the price I would say it's still worth it if you get one in pristine condition. It would take some time before it would come that. I personally would skip the XT2. I think since you have an XT3 I would keep it even if you don't do video. It will hold its value better than the other two and if you ever needed to sell you have the money. The X trans II is great.

      @@jmtphotographymedia Thanks for the advice JMT. Will really have to think about it. Because I was already planning on getting an X100v as a second body as I want something more compact and weather sealed. But that's really expensive.
      Also, it may help if you show the XT1's AF performance perhaps comparing it to your XS10. I'm just curious as to how drastically the AF has improved from the XTrans2 to XTrans4 and that if it would frustrate me to use a slower AF with the images I shoot. You can also compare images from both images through this test. ONLY if you have the time. Thanks again, JMT.

    • @jmtphotographymedia
      @jmtphotographymedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathanielngosy that's a good idea. I would that the AF on the XT1 is fast ans reliable for the way I shoot. I've done events, weddings, portraits, etc. I have old lenses like the 18mm f2 as well as new lenses like the Tamron 17-70mm. Performs well.

      @@jmtphotographymedia Really. you're enticing me already to jump for it. Haha. Also, does the locking button bother you that much on the ISO dial as you need to push the button as you turn it? (It's because on the XT3, it's reversed such that you won't have to push the button to unlock and turn).

    • @jmtphotographymedia
      @jmtphotographymedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathanielngosy the locking button can be a bother if you change ISO alot. I don't. I rely on auto ISO alot unless I do flash photography. I ride the shutter and aperture to get the auto ISO to give me an honest value. I have an XH1 so I know what you mean with the lock/unlock. I much prefer that but I'm not bothered about it since the XT1 was my first Fuji camera. You won't regret the XT1.

      @@jmtphotographymedia The autofocus is fine for an older camera. I like the leaf shutter on the camera, it us great for flash photography. The camera does beautiful black and white photography. I think it shines with the monochromatic photography. It is the same sensor as the XT1. And it is small. And I like the Tele Conversion lens that turn the camera to a 33mm f2. I haven’t tried the wide conversion lens that turns it to a 18mm.

      Thanks for watching. I would say the XT2 is the technically better camera. The additional megapixels, 8K shutter speed, lockable dials, and 4K video. It's a good value right now. Those were the features that I wish the XT1 had, and Fuji did that with the XT2. XT1 just had a great 16mp sensor that started it all for me.

    Hello, the question may be funny, maybe not, but the situation is annoying, it's about photos with a lamp. Rarely, but sometimes I take pictures with a flash, I have an old Metz in which self-automation works great, so I use it. The only problem is that when I had an SLR camera, whatever I would set (time, aperture) in the viewfinder, it was always bright, in the case of Fuji XT1, if I set it indoors in the evening to 1/180s, it gets dark in the viewfinder because it brightens or darkens the image on an ongoing basis, depending on from the set parameters, so when I took these photos, I could barely see anything. It's impossible that it can't be set somehow so that the viewfinder doesn't react to changing the exposure, but I don't know how to do it.

    • @jmtphotographymedia
      @jmtphotographymedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      What was your aperture in those situations? Possibly between aperture snd ISO it was underexposed which could explain why you couldn't see anything.

      @@jmtphotographymedia To nie jest problem z wyświetlaczem czy wizjerem, wszystko jest sprawne. Chodzi o to ze kiedy chce robić zdjęcia z lampą błyskową wieczorem w pomieszczeniu oświetlonym powiedzmy jedną żarówką, ustawiam czas synchronizacji 1/180s, to nawet jak przesłona będzie f2 to w wizjerze (wyświetlaczu oczywiście też) jest ciemno. Zdjęcie wychodzi dobre bo odpowiednio doświetla je lampa ale ciężko się fotografuje bo niewiele widać w wizjerze i wyświetlaczu. Oczywiście mogę ustawić wysokie ISO i będzie widać dobrze ale nie o to chodzi, chce zrobić zdjęcie na ISO 200 powiedzmy.

    Funny enough I have just bought two original vertical battery grips for my two xt1s. The extra battery makes a big difference. One is more confident out in the field, when one doesn't want to switch batteries constantly. And from a ergonomical perspective, this seems to be a different camera with the vertical grip without adding too much weight to it. With the two batteries and the grip the xt1 weighs more or less as much as a xt4. I would like to add that the new xt5 has been downsized and weighs 50 gr less than the xt4. But around here the new xt5 costs a whopping 2.000 Euros, while I got my two xt1s a year ago for a total of 450 Euros. And the battery grips cost me 40 euros each. And I really like the xtrans II sensor. By the way, I also shoot with a canon eos 5d classic, which really has unique colour. Thanks for the video.
