  • A beautiful Sega the folk dance of Mauritius. Sega was originally the “soul dance” of exiled African slaves in Mauritius. Sega is a combination of dancing and singing, a courtship drama “described as ‘symbolic wooing.' The instruments that accompany traditional Sega are relatively simple: goatskin drums with bells on them, coconut shells or wooden boxes with dried seeds inside, metal triangles and cooking pots and utensils. The dance is performed by both men and women. It begins as a group dance then the dancers separate into partners. It is a dance full of sexual tension but the dancers rarely touch each other.
Mauritius is an island of Africa's southeast coast located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar.

Can we please not advertise that Mauritian sega is danced by Mauritian Malbars please. Sega is a African Mauritian dance derived from Slavery. The malbars from Mauritius don’t like this, they fight a different battle ( Jugnauth against Ramgoolam and their sisters fighting for dodo flip flops)

Pls shut up. If not for Malbars you would be scratching your booty and playing with sticks and stones, just like your kin are in Madagascar, the poorest country in the world as they are the only reason Mauritius is the most successful country in Africa.
Sega can be danced by literally anyone, it’s everyone’s country. Half the cuisine that I guarantee you eat came from india as well. Sega music is also heavily influenced by Indian music and that’s undeniable

“Don’t like this” yet they make up 60% of the country and it’s still the most popular musical genre
