So far this is the best film of 2022 for me which isn't surprising with Martin McDonagh at the helm who directed In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. But I'm Irish so biased as hell, Feel like when a film comes out set in the country you automatically just want to support it all you can. Same with RRR as well but of course it seems that Banshees Of Inisherin is much more of a niche story that has been greatly overlooked by the more mainstream audience at least online, first reaction I've seen t the film. While RRR has the full backing of Bollywood is a very throwback film to the Golden age of Bollywood films, Banshees feels much more like an A24 independent film. Overall great year so far with RRR and this film.
I've got a little Irish in me too so yeah, I could be biased as well. I wouldn't say this is the best film of the year but I enjoyed it for sure. But you're right, it does feel very A24!
For me this film was an epic failure. It's like mcdonagh started believing his press a little too much, and he figured if he put these two back together again (they were pure magic in In Bruges) and if he directed it, it would be a masterpiece. So please. Correct me if I'm wrong: He made a film about a man with SEVERE mental health problems, who is intent on committing self harm, and he then he decided to show us the gore too? This film should never have even been made. For me it has no artistic value whatsoever.
@@Wizardofgosz this movie seems to be about the madness that was the Irish civil war, and what happened to people who were only tangentially related to that conflict. It is about the escalated actions on both sides, starting as a minor personal thing, into the rampant aggression on both sides as a result. The bombs going off on the mainland, the introduction of classical composition... It is an allegory of the nature of a 'civil' war and who truly feels the effects.
As an expat in Ireland for over 9.5 years, I’d say you have to come. It was never in my list of places to visit but my first choice in grad school was based in Dublin so off to Dublin I went in 2013… You don’t get the old European charm like in Prague, but the natural scenery is a beauty (Cliff of Moher charmed my mom)
Oh yeah 100% react to the Batman. Colin Farrell is amazing in it if you can recognise him and the character he plays is also getting a spin of HBO show which sounds really interesting. Colin Farrell is amazing in Bruges along with The Gentlemen, The Lobster, and Phone Booth to name a few.
I enjoyed your reaction to this movie. Like you, I understand why Colm doesn't want to be friends with Pádraic anymore. However, I can actually think of several people who are remembered for their niceness: Jesus, Robin Hood, Abraham Lincoln, and that's just the ones that lived before 1923.
I watched this film because I had seen Calvary, also by the same director. I went on to watch In Bruges which was Martin McDonagh's debut. Still to watch Three Billboards.
How do you feel about this film now Michelle?? It's in my top 5 of all time. Have you seen in Bruge? Same two actors, same director, some would say better than this. Has perhaps, more dark humor.
Yes, In Bruge is on my (long) list so I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. I haven't seen Banshees again and honestly haven't thought about it much since I watched it. But I can appreciate the movie for what it is. It's clearly well done, but when compared to other Oscar nominees last year, there were many others I enjoyed more.
I loved In Bruges and 3 Billboards...but I was a bit disappointed with Banshees. Great acting, but I felt the script was really clunky, both the humour and the drama, just felt like a stage play or something...not quite there for me Andi have given it a rewatch too. Ps...if folk like the humour in this the check out Fathe Ted, the 90s sitcom , which is similar but much funnier.
It makes sense that it feels like a stage play, since the writer used to write for the theater. I didn't mind that, actually. I've heard of Father Ted! It's a favorite in England, isn't it?
I hope this is ignored at the Oscars. Seriously. It leaves you feeling bad, like if you've read Hungry Hill by Daphne duMaurier. It's set during one of the World Wars or just after, I think.
@@couch.patati-patata Top Gun: Maverick, The Northman, Aftersun, Everything Everywhere All at Once, All Quiet on the Western Front, RRR, Nope, Prey etc. There's been a bunch of movies that were amazing. Idk I just can't see why they'd ignore the film just because of its tone which reflects the culture and history of it's creators. It's like someone wanting RRR to be ignored because it's too Bollywood. I just disagree but it's fine if the movie wasn't for you.
I think it's a great movie, but I'm tired of these kinds of movies being rewarded because they're "serious" films instead of EEAAO or Top Gun: Maverick or even Glass Onion, all of which were so much more entertaining and fun and creative and way more difficult to make!
I’m sorry, but you are not discussing the film. I’m sorry but your comments are inane. Why are you posting this? It’s 1923 on an Irish island off the mainland where the Irish Civil War is ending. Didn’t you read anything about it? This is just terrible to watch so I’ll leave you to it.
Also just calls Dominic an idiot, barely has a reaction to his death no sympathy, not one comment on what any of the movie could symbolize she just reads an article that’s been written by someone else
I hated Colm purely because he'd rather hang out with a man who abuses his own son than with someone he obviously was fond of. I also hate him because I had a friend of 30+ years who decided one day he didn't want to be my friend anymore at a Crab Fair no less, fairs are meant to be fun & this prlck decides to ruin what was basically a tradition by laying that on me. This happened in 2019 & after 2 years of ignoring me he contacts me randomly out of the blue, apparently his mother passed away & he tries to butter me up by saying how we got each other through some dark times, which was true but I wasn't about to give him the chance & just hung up, I changed my number as he kept trying to contact me (I don't like change, possibly a reason for the breakdown of the friendship so changing my number after 20 years of having it was a big deal)
Yeah, their relationship is weirdly co-dependent and ending it in that manner was pretty unhealthy. It's just a weird situation all around that ended up getting out of control. I'm so glad that the sister was like "I'm outa here".
@@OldLadyReacts She was the only sane one in the entire film, If there was one gripe I had with the film, its that the cop didn't get what he deserved, Don't think I have hated a fictional character so much in a long time lol

If you think this is the best movie of 2022, it's because you haven't seen "As Bestas" yet. Check it ;)

You're so lucky to get to live in such a lovely place! I'd love to visit there. But I'll have to make some more money first :)
@@OldLadyReacts you definitely should visit and if you do, I’ll show you around the real capital, Cork!! 😏😏
Yours is the first reaction that I have seen to this film.
There will probably be more now that all of them have been nominated for acting Oscars! (Well earned.)
One of my favourite movies! Totally get if people don't like it. Just sticks with you for a long time.
Yeah, it really makes you think!

Yeah, I think I'll have to move The Batman up the priority list!
Hello. I'm from Ireland. Its based in 1923 during the Irish civil war :)
Which I know very little about, unfortunately. But the movie was great in spite of my ignorance :). Thanks for watching!
Crazy Heart makes me cry… love it

Never been to Ireland, but I hear it's well pretty there!
Me too. I'd love to travel there.
Nice reference to The house of sand and fog....such movies make you think hours or even days about mentality of people put in awkward environments...
I watched this film because I had seen Calvary, also by the same director. I went on to watch In Bruges which was Martin McDonagh's debut. Still to watch Three Billboards.
Oh, you should, it's quite good. Brings up a lot of very interesting questions!
Calvary was actually directed by his brother, John McDonagh.
