It was the United States that prevented China from joining the space station, so China built its own space station.
China has never thought about competing with others, but implementing it according to its own plan.

A great example of this is how china spins the idea of the " great leap forward". Sounds heroic right? Sounds amazing, sounds like a time of great achievement. Only problem is they killed off millions of their own people in the name of progress. It was horrific. But they cant have it called something horrible as that would devalue the image and sanity of china's PR standing. We can't have china looking bad can we?

I didn’t really get the impression that it was “conquering” as if it’s “American property.” People are afraid of China conquering it in general. The moon should remain as a space for everyone, just like Antarctica. People are afraid of China overstepping boundaries as they have been in the South China Sea. Well I think a space race is actually a good thing. During the 60s people were inspired and strived to go to space out beating the other. This sped up innovation in technology and space exploration.
