Shooting Instant Film on RB67!

  • I recently was given the opportunity to try out the Frankinstax, an instant film back for the Mamiya RB67. Sam, the owner, was happy to. send out a test kit for me to try and really test how much control out truly have with this thing. Despite it's size, I think it's potentially the best option for shooting instant film, with it's modularity, and ability to control exposure incredibly well. Let me know down in the comments what you think of shooting instant film this way!

I started shooting a Binstax back and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. I did find the B&W film shoots better if metered at 400iso instead of 800iso. But man what fun!

So much fun. Makes me really want one of those. 😂 I know lomography has something similar for large format cameras. Hopefully more people come up with things like this!

I got mine about 2 years ago (an all black version) its super fun. Maybe its just on the older versions but on mine you dont have to keep the film release pressed. Maybe try that on you next picture.

I have that! I basically just kept the dark slide off and tapped the slot with electric tape. So much easier!

Nice video! And gorgeous photos! Have you figured out how to meter Instax better? I have been metering it at 400 in low light, 640 in regular light, 800 in bright light, and 1000 in very bright light.

This looks fun. I am new to the RB67. I’m little familiar w/ the LomaGraflok Instax for 4x5. But it isn’t 100% flange distance on a Linhof for example. The exposure is nice tho so idk if it’s different film on wide-stax

man this is super cool! Great video. I need to snag one before these film weddings I have coming up and Japan. For your outside exposures, find a filter and slap an ND, variable ND or even CPL.. Just a thought there. Will follow back after I get results.

I’ve always wondered if metal fingers was a MF DOOM reference, and after seeing the sticker on your car, i can now confirm that it it🤘

If there was a Rolleiflex/Rolleicord version of this, I might get one. They have removable backs.

I'm shooting Polaroid on my RB67 with a modified Impossible Project back. I don't think it has the same color 'pop' as the Fuji film and is REALLY sensitive to getting the exposure right as you said, just one F stop makes a big difference as there isn't much dynamic range to play with.

Is it possible to hack the original Polaroid back to put it together with a Fuji Instax , lets say, the film compartment only ?

I literally cant get used to removing my darkslide 🤣
The amount of potentially sick comps that i lost to the evil darkslide is just embarrassing.
