  • From Retrontario.com comes this above-average sign-off from Buffalo's long-time NBC network station. The clip begins with the closing moments of WGR-TV's Sunday Sports Special. The sign-off announcement follows, which has an unusual introduction and is accompanied visually with video of Channel 2's studio building, tower, and other equipment. Up next is some schoolchildren from St. Catherine's, Ontario singing "O Canada" and greeting their American neighbors at the end. Then a group of school kids from Derby NY render "The Star Spangled Banner" and bids the viewers a good night. Color bars closes out the video.

    Never knew both USA and Canada anthems were sung by the kids. I lived my whole life in Buffalo area, but then again in 1982 I was 11 years old and most likely in bed asleep when the sign off took place

      Those kids and their teacher were outstanding in this video. Because Buffalo is near the border of Canada, it's only fitting that both the Canadian and USA anthems were sung -- after all, both anthems are sung at Buffalo Sabres home games, are they not? 😎

    Interesting to see highlights from a Canadian Football League game (between the Toronto Argonauts and British Columbia Lions) during the closing credits of the sports show. This was obviously during the 1982 NFL players' strike, when NBC was broadcasting CFL games.

    To those who are curious, well, the NBC affiliated station now goes by WGRZ TV and the station is being owned and operated by Tegna, Inc.

      @holly pietrzak Tom Brokaw retired as Nightly News anchor just after the 2004 presidential election. He still works for NBC News as a special contributor, mostly hosting documentaries. He also briefly served as host of Meet the Press following Tim Russert's death in 2008.th-cam.com/video/uQH7ASU8wNY/w-d-xo.html

      Yes EAS CEC -- and because Buffalo, NY is very close to the Canadian border, BOTH the Canadian anthem (O Canada) and the U.S. anthem (The Star Spangled Banner) were sung by these children. I wonder if, back in the 1980s, TV stations in Detroit, MI did the same thing, since Detroit is also very close to the Canadian border?

    • @eascec8374
      @eascec8374 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      WTVS And WKBD Are The Only Stations In Detroit That Contains The Canadian Anthem. WTVS Used Scenery Including The Olympics And Ends With A View Of The Bleachers With A Kid Being Excited Next To Her Baby (Similar To From A Clip Of The CBS Masterwork's Version Of This Is My Country Which Used On A Few Stations, Although The Song First Made In The Early 1970's Was Shorten And Edited In The Late 1980's). And WKBD Is The Only One That Featured Children But With A Different Video. And Nope It's Not The Famous One With The Kid Who Doesn't Have Front Teeth In A Black Background At The Beginning. Instead It Starts With A Creepy Stare Of A Random Chubby Kid's Face Covering The Entire Camera Singing The First Lines Followed By Others Who Formed A Canada Flag Off Of An Icy Area.
