United States: O say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? Our home and native land True patriot love in all of us command With glowing hearts, we see thee rise The True North strong and free From far and wide O Canada, we stand on guard for thee God keep our land glorious and free O Canada, we stand on guard for thee O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
@@hotwax9376 Of course, Canadian television stations whose signals went across the border into the US _never_ played the American anthem, for obvious reasons.

Funny thing about the anthems....they kind of sound like they were performed at a hockey game, cause they have that kind of spirit in mind, especially O Canada. XB
I remember being up in the night because I couldn't sleep and this would be on. We only had 2, 5, 7, and 12 for stations back then. I would always get caught and mom would get up and shut the TV off. It was always the National Anthem that did me in and woke her up lol.
Most of the US based TV stations viewable in Canada, when signing on and off, they play both national anthems (either vocal or instrumental, in 1 or both)
I remember that time when I was living in Maine and I had my TV in my bedroom one late night when I was supposed to be asleep and I saw this. But right when it ended, I could hear my dad yelling, "WYMAN! TURN THE TV OFF AND GO TO SLEEP!" I was scared plum out of my wits.
@@umop3plsdn I was born in New Brunswick, right next door to Maine, so there's a chance I could say ' arrière-cour ' instead, as French is one of the 2 official languages of that province. ;)
I liked that WLBZ decided to give a shout-out to it's neighbouring Canadian province during this time....though, eventually, O Canada was cut from the anthems played, especially around 2002 or so. =P
I really wish they would bring this back. Ending the broadcast day, and ending it off with the US and Canadian National Anthem played on the border stations.
Same! (It was really amazing and quite a sight to see the border stations in both our countries, especially the US, acknowledge each others' nations in their own unique way with the anthem sequences.)
I like the church organ sound on "O Canada," and hearing it always makes me wish that "America the Beautiful"' was our anthem instead of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Man those were the days when WLBZ & WVII-TV (ABC affiliate of Bangor) used to broadcast Canadian commercials (at least from the provinces of New Brunswick & Nova Scotia).
WLBZ, WABI, and WVII had sales offices in major Maritime cities at the time (though WABI's reach was limited to major centres, with the other 2 channels being carried region wide). In my hometown of Amherst, WLBZ and WVII were dumped in 1988 in favor of their Detroit counterparts via Cancom (we already were getting CBS and PBS via Cancom by then).
I hope the recording of both anthems is used next season in the NHL - some of the singers this year were God awful, especially that one singer who messed up the words to O Canada when we played the Panthers in March. Would rather have a band, orchestra, or organist with the fans singing along. Nice sign-off mate!
Be careful! There are subliminal messages built into the flag that say: "subscribe to this channel" (that was a joke, jabbing at the many "subliminal messages in our national anthem" hoax videos.)
Yes they do, except for cross-border stations they play both the US and also the Canadian as well as Mexican anthems as a mark of respect for their viewers on the other side, which is quite special...
