- This video is a tour of my sewing and craft space. I made and sold upcycled clothing, purses and accessories for many many years. My sewing space is basic, not a lot of expensive sewing machines, storage or tools. Just hope this inspires anyone wanting to get into making and/or selling their sewn creations, you don't need to spend a fortune to get started. Happy sewing!!!

Lovely “real” tour. I so appreciate that. The thing that surprised me the most was your sewing machine. Just basic, no upper end super duper sort of thing. Encourages me with how much can be created and sewed with my similar Brother machine. I’m loving your channel and am learning so much along with getting great inspirational ideas. I tend toward the traditional sewing concepts I learned years ago so I appreciate your eye-balling, ripping fabric strips, using bedsheets, scraps of lace, and all of the fun ideas you use.

Your bowl with the scissors, the catch all bins with bits and pieces, the recycled tables and dressers, all the assortments of clothes, ribbons and lace, buttons and jewelry. It's so much like my own creative spaces. Now I feel good about it and not torn with guilt because my family doesn't understand what good it is.

Your sewing room is a dream, all the windows and tables you made. The fact you use what you have and things are a a little chaotic is extremely relatable to I would say most of us. My craft room is tiny but everything in there is furniture I made or got for free and I store things where I can. Every video you just show us all how real you are and we all adore you for it. I love snooping and checking out others creating spaces!!! My 3yr old granddaughter goes into my sewing room and climbs up on a stool in there and just sits and stares at everything very quietly. It’s interesting to find her in there just looking at every inch of the room.
I totally dig your space with windows and a clear work table. Love your stations for everything too. The space you have is unreal. I make do with small spaces. Got really good at organizing!!😂

A lovely creative place; so much room. I have the same wire dress form. I could never find enough thrifted pearl necklaces to drape on her. Thrifted a huge bag of pearl Christmas garland to use instead! Thanks for the tour ❤

My husband was so jealous of my creativity. He would throw containers of fabric and stuff. away . I go to auctions and get boxes of upholstery fabric and trims doilies. He always said I was a horder. Now I know I'm just like any other artist. Thanks for the uplift at this difficult time. I can't see myself punching a time clock. 😊

So sorry to hear this, what a hard time you've been having. I see your comment was 3 months ago so I hope things are now smoother for you. Jealousy of your creativity is really sad and so unnecessary - with a change of attitude he could have been proud of you and celebrated your talent and encouraged you. I am very fortunate that my hubby is very tolerant of my creativity and puts up with quite a bit of mess as a result, even though he doesn't really understand or appreciate what it's all about - I don't think he really likes what I make very much! He is now so well trained that he even asks me if I want to keep his Amazon packaging material to make art out of!! He has his own things and a vast man cave (garage, car never been in there!!) and his study and his books. We are fortunate to have enough space for our separate interests.

OMG!!! I really did not know that other women had gone through this. My first husband liked that I sewed for him & our 2 sons. He hated my creative space. I didn't have a sewing room so I was usually in a kitchen corner. He constantly griped about the mess, even though it was not messy. I would either stay up late or get up early so I could sew without him griping about the time I spent doing what I love. When we separated, I was the one to move out. He had his sister pack up my things. I had lots of turquoise jewelry that didn't make the trip. And lots of fabric. ...We remarried & tried it again. That lasted 4 years. When I left this time, he threw away years, decades, of sewing magazines. ...Funny story: He also hated my music. He really hated it when I went to concerts. He always told me that I needed to grow up! Anyway, a few years after our divorce, we were visiting, sharing a beer or 2 on my front porch. I told him he needed to get remarried. He said it never worked out with the women he dated. He said, & I quote, "The young ones just seem so dumb. The ones my age seem so old & they don't want to have any fun. Neither of 'em want to drive around at night listening to rock'n'roll & singing along. And absolutely none of them know how to sew!" I just about fell out of my chair; I was laughing so hard. I said, "Those are the things you hated about me, and now, that's what you're looking for. You are looking for another me! Well, honey, you ain't gonna find one. After me, they broke the mold!" ...I have, for almost 20 years now, been married to a very creative man. Before he retired, he had a paint & body shop where he painted cars & built street rods. He encourages me in everything I do. I don't know how many times he's been visiting with me while I work, will dissappear to his shop, then show up with a tool he's made that will make whatever I was doing easier.

So sorry for your loss. My hubby gives me paper rubbish for upcycling (I've got him pretty well trained now!) and in the old days my dad would make me beautiful things for my creativity. He died 10 years ago and I miss him so much - not just for that, but for everything he was to me. If he was still alive he'd have been 100 in June this year!

I took Taylor tacking about 40 years ago and made a couple of coats and dresses but the older my children got the more I wanted to go out and be more active. I’ve been a real estate agent for 40 years now and I’d love to get back into sewing.

So You! Love the way you have all your work spaces set up. I adore the fact that you refinished a dresser that has a drawer that doesn't open. So in line with you style of going with the flow. You don't get caught up in 'perfectionism'. Your style has such an easy going vibe and, in that, you create unique beauty. I so hope that I can be as free from convention as you are as I venture into challenging myself with making Boho style handbags. That is true artistry in my way of thinking.

What a glorious studio - so much space, and so full of wonderfully quirky pieces of furniture! I'm envious of how much space you have. I have a medium-sized bedroom with a small annexe partitioned off (office space) for my studio where I have a continuous curving MDF surface around 3 sides of the room with open-fronted kitchen units below and wall units above. Some of the kitchen units are on casters and are pull-out units so I can sit in different places around the room. It is arranged in zones e.g. a "hot" area with heat-resistant mats for when I melt stuff or use the soldering iron etc., my main work area with small shelves and drawers within easy reach, with my electronic cutting machine off to one side across the corner, a sewing area with my sewing machine, shelves with boxes of haberdashery supplies, and a drawing area with a light panel and also my ironing pad. The final wall is all large shelves with banana boxes full of yarns, and all sorts of other supplies. I do mostly mixed media and book making. By the door is a sink - great to have running water and a "wet" zone, good for cleaning brushes and stencils etc., and a table for my gel plate and paper drying rack. There is sooo much stuff in my room!! I have 2 of the pull-out units permanently out as ovespill from the main work area and also for my cutting mat, guillotine etc. I could do with a room the size of yours, but then I'd probably fill it with as much clutter and more, and still complain I hadn't enough room lol!
So happy to see that you are a "rummager" like me - none of my sewing supplies are neatly stored. I have 3 small lvintage leather suitcases full of lace, ribbons and trims and they are a gloriou muddle to rummage through. My threads are also in a muddle like yours! Nothing like a good rummage!
We also have 2 cats and one of them is called Lily like yours! The other is Ruby. They are silver tabby and white sisters, and they are also banned from my studio as one rummager in the room is quite enough!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful, creative space with us. I love everything about it. Especially the vastness of it all. I have a 11x14 sewing room that has 2 closets. I also make jewelry in this room, so it is packed! My back kills me, too. I had my guy make a "table" that sits on my upholstery machine table, over the machine. I hardly ever use that machine, so it was just taking up space. This way I have a perfect stand up work space that I can set off if I do need to use the machine. I love, love your raised work table. All of your furniture pieces are awesome. You have made them so beautiful! The curtain background is really cool! ..I have 2 dress racks in another space that are loaded with tons of vintage clothing that were gifted to me... Thanks again for sharing!

I love your space so much. And it's pretty organized, in my opinion :) I agree on needing a nice, natural view when working. I am LIVING for a real space with a door. My area is the tiny breafast room off the kitchen. Since I stopped reselling on eBay, I gained storage space, but there's nowhere for me in our little house. When my youngest graduates from HS in 2 years, we're going to get a bigger house because my oldest will have to continue living with us and we want him to have a space he can spread out in for work (autism and narcolepsy -- he's a computer software engineer but can't drive and needs lots of support for daily needs) and I'm going to claim a space for myself. Anyway... thanks again for sharing your work and your space with us!

I'm so glad you did this, because it really shows that you don't need to have all the fancy organization and loads of tools and multiple machines, that you really can be creative and make beautiful things without all that! So thank you. And I'm super envious of your fabulous $10 work table! When I go to sewing retreats they always have cutting tables set up on those risers, and it really is soooo much easier to work at.

The old tin you showed made me think of a tin I have that was my mother’s embroidery floss tin. I don’t do embroidery very often but keep it as a reminder of her. The tin is probably at least 70 years old. It was probably an old fruit cake tin.

That was cool.. I have turned the big Livingroom into my space.. I live alone so its fine... and I have a huge tv that plays movies mostly.. or utube vids lol... only thing I hate is carpettt.. have to vacuum all the time haaa.. and I use folding tables when I need or the floor.. I love your space!!

Have you ever had a time where it’s hard to get into being creative, or motivated might be a better word. I have all these ideas in my head, but going to do them is another story. I hope it’s just some kind of creativity block, but I thought I’d see if you’ve ever had that problem. You have it all together and planned out. I can’t imagine anyone changing a single thing!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Absolutely, I have had creative blocks. At times I've sat and wrote down ten ideas I'm so excited to get started. Then wake up the next morning, look at my list and think they are all stupid ideas and no motivation to make anything on my list. I think as an artsy person I have to make whatever I feel at the moment instead making plans.💞💞💞

Anyone looking to organize- i just got a 2 tier expendable clothing rack at Walmart for $19. I had looked at thrift stores but what i found was smaller, damaged and not too cheap. This was worth a new vs used purchase. (March 2024)
