I ditched my GoPros when DJI action 4 was released. Now I have 2 action 4s. Very happy. It just works. No freezes no overheating and lots of quality of life upgrades over gopro
Just a heads up to anyone watching here that might be planning a trip to the Tail of the Dragon, paving is happening on the Dragon currently and TDOT says it won't be finished until July so keep that in mind when you're planning your trip

Try the insta360 cams (idk if they are available in america tho), they are amazing in comparison to gopro :)
I prefer the DJI. Currently run it on my helmets. Good color on it.

I've got two DJI Actions 4 cameras and love them!

The gopro may have more resolution, but you cant upload it that high to anywhere..the only way that would be helpful is if you are using it for your own viewing
I got tired of the overheating issue with the gopros that i was using and decided to try out the action 1 and was shocked at how much better it seemed to be overall against the hero 7-9. Once DJI came out with the action 3 I ended up buying3 of them which I lost one due to my gopro mount breaking on me causing the camera to fly off the bike sadly never to be seen again. The other thing I like about the action that wasn't shown in the video is that you can also just stick the camera onto anything metal and it will sit there in place without having to use a mount of any kind. Granted that said its for stationary use only in that configuration being it'll stay in place but can be easily knocked off depending on what type of surface you have it magnetized to. The battery holder/charger can also be used as a battery bank as well to charge your cellphone or camera as well using the batteries that are charged within it. As for overheating I have yet to experience a issue with none of my DJI action cameras 1 and the 3's to date.
Glad to see a bigger motorcycle channel do a comparison video of the 2 because so many aren't really aware of the DJI cameras. I know during Sturgis last year at the sound competition at the beaver bar I actually lived streamed with the Action being mounted to one of the metal handrails and it grabbed a lot of attention by people watching the sound comp. Will say as for sound with mic's there is a builtin feature that you can do some adjustment for mic input but not a lot so it will depend on the mic that you use with the DJI camera as to how easy or hard it is to use a external mic with them which you can use any usb-c mic with the DJI's unlike gp where you have to buy the media mod where DJI all you need is a usb-c mic.

gopro you can film in 8:7 ratio and just crop in the app. only takes a moment. youll need the app anyway just to download the footage on your phone. 8:7 allows you to have both vertical and horizontal content without re-mounting/ rotating the camera. Also the GoPro has bluetooth mic adapter, so you can link your Sena or Cardo headset as your mic. not sure if DJI has this feature.
Djo too have Bluetooth mic adapter and when u connect it with dji mic 2 it smashes GO SHIT PRO any day...
We use an Insta360 and GoPro’s however we have a DJI mic and drone. Looove the DJI mic, it’s features like you’ve shown are brilliant and it’s so convenient to have it charge like AirPods in the carry case for both the mic and drone. The fact that the action cam batteries do the same is pretty cool, it’s a great feature.

I just changed to DJI for my vlogging camera. I got the mic 2 dual kit and liking it so far. Wish both mics would sync with just the camera but sadly it only does one. Have to use the dongle plugged into it.
I just bought DJI. I watched a ton of reviews before deciding and DJI Action 4 always comes on top.
Another great video. And I made the switch from a GoPro 9 over the DJI Action 4 over the winter and I am so glad that I did!
Thanks! This is very helpful. I've never had a lot of luck with GoPro. They are super expensive and I feel it's performance was not great. I'm gonna give the DJI a chance.
Just so u know you can buy an adapter for the gopro so u can use the dji mount im running it on my set up. The quality of the gopro 12 is noticeably better imo
GoPro 12 with max lens mod 2.0 has been behaving very good. And I put the DJI magnet mounts on it from ulanzi

Only had 1 go pro branded camera (360 max) never really been a friend of them, because of price.
Kaiser baas x450 is my choice but if i had the income id definitely choose the DJI. Its the mounting options that got my attention
Yeah, I ditched my GP collection and went with DJI Osmo 4. Also, the batteries on the Osmo4 do not overheat as quickly as the GP batteries. I got tired of having to buy new batteries all the time with GP. DJI claims their batteries are more robust and do last longer. I've been very impressed with the DJI line and they can only get better (after all the bad reviews from GoPro cams). I see many more improvement coming down the line for thier action cams with more accessories and a fraction of the cost. You chose wisely, @blockhead and fam!
Oh, and I have the Action 4 with the batt pack, ND filter pack as well, with the mics / charging base, and the mic adapter as well. The beauty of the mics is that you can ajust the gains on the spot!
I use a hero 11 black, with a 3.5 to c adapter, and a lav mic, on the opposite side of my helmet from the cardo, they may interfere on same side. Chin mount and a pass through instead of a media mod. I have the creator pak too, but I use that when I'm not riding. I'm really interested in how well the Bluetooth works on the 12. I film alot at night. Awesome video, I'm debating between dji, 12, or 360 for my next camera.

I use DJI Drones, i tried Action 4, didn't last long for me as im really rugged with my stuff the mounts broke easily, i snapped one by accident and the other fell with camera and broke, Gopro looked better at night the Action 4 had more noise in it, the Gopro is good for me its tough rugged and very simple they should give more stuff like DJI, but whatever. Its Gopro for me just go and shoot..
GoPro has let me down so many times while riding. Hate it. Never again.

The Hero 12 looked cleaner at night than go pro in this demostration. Wonder why?
Both Cameras are very good, but I got away from Action cams altogether on my scoot... I switched over 2 years ago to the RayBan Stories, then upgraded to the Ray Ban Meta Wayfarers with the updated camera and features... Nothing easier or less obtrusive than a pair of sunglasses with a seriously rocking camera built in... Might want to take a look at them... Even got my prescription built into them and used my Optical insurance and Medical Flex Spending account to get them, something you CAN'T do with an action cam...

what about an in helmet mic?
We use gopros for all of our videos, biggest issues is the overheating and the constant random need to reset the date and time. Beside that quality is great. But we are very interested in switching to something new.
get the ulanzi metal cage and it cools it down like a heat sink. I have all cams and like go pro 12 max lens mod for wheelie pov. I want a pocket 3 low light action 360 cam.....

Does it take Rode mic for dual vlogs?
Fullframe recording lets you edit into either 16:9 or 9:16. So a little misinformation there, BUT i really REALLY like the quick release on the DJI

I ended up going with the go pro.. yeah battery life isn't better but having to record once for both vertical and horizontal content was the reason I chose the go pro
For anyone who thinks the riding will cause cooldown for the camera on a GoPro. It won’t cool down fast enough - it’ll still overheat.

Trying to decide which one of these would be better for recording a round of golf then transferring to. MAC for editing?
You'd be fine with both to be honest. Golf won't be needing crazy stabilisation, low light capabilities ect. I would say the OSMO 4 takes the lead though for you with better battery life.

Did the magnetic from dji is strong lock?
you can throw it to the ground and it wont even going to break, it has locking hook at the side and a strong magnetic that holds it in place.
Call me crazy but the gopro looks better? DJI seems to have way more noise and hear the wind more.
I don’t think anything beats the picture/video quality of the GoPro yet, but the lack of reliability everywhere other than that makes it an extreme liability.

The DJI footage looks like it was shot on a smartphone; the footage contains a lot of noise and doesn't have the smooth textures and highlights of the GoPro. NB: I don't own either device.
