He is amazing! The band choose this song as they usually do one cover per album. They are a heavy metal band. This was completely different from their normal genre. I don’t particularly like their heavy metal but David, his voice, is just the best. Never do I see the band get credit for this. David is a member but the band picked the song and the arrangement gives many goosebumps. This is a song and rendition that at, even four years later, continues to amaze the world. Bravo! Draiman comes from an orthodox Jewish background and trained as a cantor in his early life but luckily for all of us, he chose to go into the music business rather than stay within his religious musical circles (which didn't go down well with his family). Thank God he made the right choice eh? God what a voice.
People have pretty good voices, others have the ability to express the meanings of the words. David Draiman has all this. Power, sensitiviness. I discovered Disturbed by this song. You should watch the video because it's a real piece of art. Tranks to your comments.
I started listening to their other songs even though I am not a heavy metal fan. But his voice is one of a kind, very talented. My favourite song, pushed Queen to the second place.
Most outstanding performance. I knew and liked the song for 50 years but never realised it was so beautiful till I heard this performance yesterday for the first time and I am now smitten.
Thank you, this is what a reaction video is supposed to be, letting your emotions show your reaction, letting the song speak too you, not interrupting the song all of the time and giving your interruption of what the song means. Commentaries are for after the song is finished 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Vocal coach reactions is a different sub genre to common reaction videos, they usually talk in the middle of the performance for a reason. There are people who genuinely wants the commentary part, or wants to have insights about the performance as they happen.
I have listened to this cover all day every day and I'm still not tired of it. As so many others doesn't matter how many times I watch it I get goose pimples all the time. Thank you for not interrupting.
the sound is also all david in the studio version ... hes admitted in interviews now that they forced him to tune because of being ill and it left him really annoyed
@@robburdack4361 the auto tune was added to his performance post production and without David knowing of it. He only learned of it at time of airing on TV as the show does not go out live. In the official music video and in live concert no effects are added.
The official video released of this cover version has almost 700 million views on TH-cam.. Probably the best cover version of any record ever released in the history of music. After hearing this version Paul Simon said on his Facebook page, "Disturbed now own this song".
Finally a first reaction video that doesn’t stop multiple times. This gives the performance the respect it deserves. Don’t get me wrong, I love the song and love seeing first reactions to it.....but leave the commenting till the end. Well done!
There’s a folkloric character in Africa called the “town crier”, which is someone who speaks to the village when danger is coming. The town crier doesn’t scream, he doesn’t yell. The town crier just walks through the village speaking, and he has such a powerful hypnotic authoritative voice that people can’t help but to stop anything they’re doing and just listen to this commanding voice. It raises over any other voice. And it's the voice that the town would rise up to hear, as if they were being called by some powerful force that tunes their minds and souls and shuts down any other thought. That’s David Draiman. His voice is pure soul and will, powerful and with such authority. He means every word, and he makes you feel it in your guts. He touches your deepest strings as soon as he opens his mouth. You feel like you're being called. And this version is outstanding. They say you can listen to the original song as many times as you want, but you never hear the song until you hear this version, and that’s when you hear the song for the first time.
You took this directly from, Sincerely, K.S.O. She told that whole story in her reaction to this song. How does if feel to be such an unoriginal, plagiarizing POS?
David is probably the best singer ever!!!! He and his brother were classically trained and he planned on being a Cantor… Thank goodness he chose this path!!! So much passion, so much respect for lyrics - when he performed this on Conan - he had a terrible case of the flu, yet still pulled it off with phenomenal vocals!!! Yay!!!! We love you, David!!!!
@@sawyerbass4661 Can we pretend that having the flu affects everything you do? Personally I would prefer not standing infront of a crowd while having flu, much less sing
Flu or no flu makes absolutely no difference he nails it Everytime. I thought Freddy Mercury was the best well he gonna have to move over David Draimans voice is maybe better.
Having the flu effects you if you are throwing up all the time. Especially with him having other medical issues with the flap that keeps stomach acid out of your esophagus. So yes, that is impressive to do while he is sick.
Thank you for not interrupting the song as it allowed me to enjoy it with you while watching your Expressions as high points of the song reached that I could see touched you in the same areas that it touched me! That is a true reaction video I see your facial expressions as a reaction during the song and get your commentary at the end! Excellent! thank you!
Hi there: so nice that you didn't interrupt the video 20 times like most and disrupt the musical flow, there is always time to comment after. Take a listen to unchained melody, 1965, the Righteous Brothers, this solo is by Bobby Hatfield. No synthesizers, just raw talent. then, after this, listen the the Righteous Brothers together in " you lost that loving feeling" I hope you will be amazed. Music from my time G
When I heard David Draiman cover The Sound of silence, I was wowed just like you and curious who he was I also googled him and listen to some of his songs. The lyrics to his music made me wonder if he’d had a horrible upbringing. So I watched a couple of his interviews I must say I was impressed He is actually very smart and well educated man. His determination to succeed with his music is impressive and his fan base is huge. He’s lost some good friends to drug OD my only wish is that he would use his influence to encourage youngsters to kick the habit before the habit kicks them to the grave.
Most of their songs have a message...which impresses me...whether it be people sick in hospital; victims of crime or accidents; losing someone to death, alcoholism, drug overdoses or suicide; disabled children/adults; the mentally ill; abuse victims and unrequited love. I'd say he and the band are using their influence to a HUGE degree Kudos to them! David has a voice to die for....a vocalist like no other!
I grew up with Simon & Garfunkel and absolutely love this song. When I first heard heard this cover it brought tears to my eyes. I have never heard a cover as good as this one. Paul Simon got a Grammy for this song. Disturbed should get two! Wow!
This performance was nominated for a Grammy in 2017, but did not win. I think they should revote!! I can't believe this didn't get the Grammy. David was robbed! He deserved this. Most incredible cover ever.
My interpretation of this song: Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence In the second verse they are getting flashes of Light/truths and they are becoming more aware/awakened to lies and there was a faint sound in the silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence And in this moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds telling those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy and those the were sleeping heard the message in a very subtle way, but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of being attacked by those that controlled the sound of silence. They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not to disturb the sound of silence. And when the people became aware of the Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time, which really pissed them off. "Fools," said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead remained in the sound of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence." The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet. They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?
What makes David a great singer is that his voice was classical trained for a cantor.... What makes this performance special, he totally nailed the vocals and he was sick when they were on Conan....
Awesome reaction. I love the fact that you let the song play and enjoyed it to the fullest before commenting. So many others make a lot of stops to comment on the vocals, techniques used, etc. I get that it adds to the video, especially since many doing this are vocal teachers, but in my opinion the initial reaction should be of the whole song undisturbed, no pun intended, and then if need be, go back and comment on various snipets.
Hold on to memories is another surprisingly insightful song, originsl...not cover, by this heavy metal band. They are exceptional, and, of course there is THAT voice.
From what I read on other reaction videos of this song, Conan commented that the entire audience was incredibly silent and even his staff and crewhands behind stage stopped what they were doing just to listen to David. He said no other live act ever had such a captivated audience.
This song is AMAZING... probably the most popular reaction song E V E R !! The crazy part is this is so far from what it is that Disturbed does musically that people of any music genre were/seemed (bewildered?)! 100% of all the people that watch this video thought to themself, "What the heck am I experiencing here?" "Who is this Man?" "Where have I heard this before?" "Is this religious/spiritual in its nature?" (lol) and then once the song is over? (speaking of the sound of silence) almost all had to gather their thoughts and ponder many mixed emotions! Was this for real? How Davids phenomenal vocals were either never known to them or if known to them... What the hell this was? The sad thing was when watching the official video... many (did I say, "Many?") focused on his facial expressions and piercings; the dark imagery was intentional as well as exceptional! Was this a fluke? Not at all ...but... this was totally unexpected by the entire world of music as a whole!! ~just like Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" - these songs which are covers... are now theirs!!
Disturb's Reason to Fight (our addictions?) and Hold on to Memory are among my faves. This song speaks to our human voices, our creative impetus, our message to each others that must not be drowned out by power, by ignorance or apathy. You are important, one person can change the world. Just do it. Talking without speaking, hearing without listening.... this is the internet and media blasts.... worshipping our iphones.... hard times but be a creator, make your life count.
One of my favorite renditions ever of this song and I have been a Simon and Garfunkel fan my whole life and playing music in bands throughout college law, school and high school and still playing now that I am in my 60s. David’s voice is surreal.
This gentleman can sing. But...can also perform, tie it together. My favorite song from Disturbed is ‘Get Down With The Sickness’ because as a child, I was verbally and physically abused by my mom. She absolutely screwed up my head. It took reading and studying the Bible, and reading two dozen parenting books to break the cycle. My children never knew her, and that was by intent. I still get occasional nightmares but they faded over the years. Many people think the song is evil, and I say no..it’s about awareness to what child abuse does to a kid, it f**s them up for life.
I agree. I am in the same boat as you. When I was younger, I suffered through a lot of emotional and verbal abuse from my biological father and witnessed him physically abuse both my biological brother and biological mother. Then when I was 12, I was sexually abused by my uncle( my biological father's brother) and have suffered from emotional scars of the incident. I have PTSD and extreme hypervigilance because of it. Due to my PTSD and hypervigilance I have a lot of trust issues.
Yes, I was molested, too. By a few men starting at age four. It doesn’t bother me as much as the hateful words and physical abuse from my mother. I guess when I think about it, they were creepy perverts taking advantage of a child..what a heavy burden they must have carried to their graves. I had no choice, but they did. I can’t imagine having a filthy mind like that, riddled with demons. Hurting a child. Shame on them. Keeping my head on straight and working hard to be objective I can only give credit to Jesus. And I didn’t want to devote my life to hate and mental instability. I wanted other things..I chose to move forward. But PTSD does creep into my thoughts...one time I saw a grandmother at the park with her grandchildren. They adored her. My children never knew their grandmother..it made me cry and shake. Then I would snap out of it...remembering ‘I’ am at the park with ‘my’ children...my mother never took me to a park. While my children ran around with big smiles in the open air, I remember being sent to the basement all day or being locked in my room without a light bulb. My children say I’m a good mom...they still hug me everyday and tell me they love me, and they are grown up! Yup...chain broken.
@@blondek767 I did go to court to press charges against my uncle for sexually assaulting me. Sadly though, it in a deadlock (hung jury.) I will never forgive my uncle. However, I don't dwell and I don't hate on men for what he did to me. In fact, I have an international friend that I have been talking to for three years now and we have some similar situations mainly with verbal abuse and bullying that we have suffered. He has actually mentioned that if could come visit me ( I am from Montana and he is from Kolin, Czech Republic) that he would ask me out on a date. We have some much things in common that we are kind of like soul mates.
I married a guy who had the same issues as I did. We call ourselves ‘Generation One’. He switched religions, from Non-Denomination to Lutheran so we could go to church with our children as a family. I’m not kidding, we had to read many of books and took actual parenting classes, we admitted to each other that neither one of us had anything to draw upon. He had a wicked step-mother, suffered with permanent nerve damage from beatings, and spent much time in foster homes. He was very screwed up. Like I said..reading the Bible gave me clarity, I could think objectively. I no longer take the abuse I suffered as personal. I really do believe, if it wasn’t me, it would be some other kid in my shoes. But I still struggle with anger..our kids deserved normal grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins to play with. It was difficult filling those voids for them. Abuse can effect multiple generations. I’m fully aware of the demons Disturbed spoke of in Get Down With The Sickness’, and think nobody but someone who has experienced abuse as children can understand. I will pray for you. My advice is you should read the NIV bible, cover to cover. Discover why God created you to begin with, and how he wants you to think, live, and how he can heal you. It will give you new eyes. If that makes sense. It can reverse much of your PTSD, like it did for me. Learning that humans are flawed creatures, all of us, will give you better perspective. I ask God to let the Holy Spirit guide my path because sometimes I don’t know what to do. It’s essential to not become weak willed, and constantly feel like a victim. We only get one life and I’m determined not to waste it on the past. My only flaw is my anger and lack of forgiveness...I’m hoping God will give me ‘a pass’ on that. God bless you. ✝️
@@blondek767 My friend from the Czech Republic has dealt with tons of bullying and verbal abuse from teachers and students due to him have brain damage. However, his brain damage was not caused by a car accident or physical abuse, no, it was caused be a premature birth. He had a special paper from the Psychology Committee that said he could not be evaluated from arts because of his inability draw/paint correctly due to his brain damage. But his art teacher ignored the paper and openly bullied and mocked him for his inability to draw/paint properly.

I would love to hear this live , I get goose bumps every single time I hear them sing this song . Just totally amazing!!!!
Most outstanding performance. I knew and liked the song for 50 years but never realised it was so beautiful till I heard this performance yesterday for the first time and I am now smitten.
"Should not be possible for a human to do" LOL....Words cant describe the beauty of that rendition. Awesome reaction video
You should watch the official video. The imagery is amazing and poignant.
Poignant is the perfect word!
Absolutely!
the sound is also all david in the studio version ... hes admitted in interviews now that they forced him to tune because of being ill and it left him really annoyed
will definitely check it out!
Finally a reviewr who was as stunned as I was. I wont ever be the same. How revelent too. He meant every word
Finally a first reaction video that doesn’t stop multiple times. This gives the performance the respect it deserves. Don’t get me wrong, I love the song and love seeing first reactions to it.....but leave the commenting till the end. Well done!
I love that you intently watched the entire performance before you commented. It was great to see the effect it had on you :)
That was so well worded.
@@maureenbrooks5016 Because it was stolen.
There were "town criers" in England which is where the concept came from.
At least you could have said KSO had a Great Take on this song in her reaction.
David is probably the best singer ever!!!! He and his brother were classically trained and he planned on being a Cantor…
Thank goodness he chose this path!!! So much passion, so much respect for lyrics - when he performed this on Conan - he had a terrible case of the flu, yet still pulled it off with phenomenal vocals!!! Yay!!!! We love you, David!!!!
He has such an amazing voice..
He was sick with the flu during this performance too.
Can we stop pretending like the flu affects the voice?
Misuse during having the flu is what causes issues.
@@sawyerbass4661 Can we pretend that having the flu affects everything you do? Personally I would prefer not standing infront of a crowd while having flu, much less sing
Can we just agree that this guy is a total badass.
Reason to fight is a great influential song. check it out
Most of their songs have a message...which impresses me...whether it be people sick in hospital; victims of crime or accidents; losing someone to death, alcoholism, drug overdoses or suicide; disabled children/adults; the mentally ill; abuse victims and unrequited love. I'd say he and the band are using their influence to a HUGE degree Kudos to them! David has a voice to die for....a vocalist like no other!
Listen to his voice about Israel. Not that Israel needs you.... But perhaps, you need them.
I grew up with Simon & Garfunkel and absolutely love this song. When I first heard heard this cover it brought tears to my eyes. I have never heard a cover as good as this one. Paul Simon got a Grammy for this song. Disturbed should get two! Wow!
This won a Grammy for its performance. Cudos for no interruptions, and a song you'll never forget.
This performance was nominated for a Grammy in 2017, but did not win. I think they should revote!! I can't believe this didn't get the Grammy. David was robbed! He deserved this. Most incredible cover ever.
This song grabs your soul. It brings tears to my eyes.
Thank you for not stopping the video.
My interpretation of this song:
Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in
the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing
something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted
the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
In the second verse they are getting flashes of Light/truths and they
are becoming more aware/awakened to lies and there was a faint sound in
the silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
And in this moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds telling
those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy and
those the were sleeping heard the message in a very subtle way,
but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of being attacked
by those that controlled the sound of silence.
They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not
to disturb the sound of silence. And when the people became aware of the
Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time,
which really pissed them off.
"Fools," said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them
Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead
remained in the sound of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence."
The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the
things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet.
They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by
consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through
their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the
people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?
'Should not be possible'.. and yet it is. David is just that amazing :)
What makes David a great singer is that his voice was classical trained for a cantor....
What makes this performance special, he totally nailed the vocals and he was sick when they were on Conan....
This is my absolute favorite version of this song, warring for top spot with the original. They do it justice.
Thank you for not pausing to speak over the music. You rock!
I'm so glad you knew the original, it's style. You were able to appreciate the difference. It's the best cover of ANY song
This Guy KICKED ASS !!!
Excellent Cover !!!
Hold on to memories is a beautiful song
That's my fave song of Disturbed new album Evolution.
I had a lump in my throat that was hard to swallow listening to Hold on to Memories ~ Wrung me out!
This is how you should perfectly do a reaction video. Keep the interruptions to a minimum and then comment at the end. Brilliant.
I so appreciate you waiting until the end of the song for your imput. Very refreshing.
I've watched alot of these Sound of Silence reactions and I loved how you watched it all the way through without stopping to comment. Loved it!
Gives me. Chills .his voice and the words.
Nobody ever talks about what it must have been like to be there in that studio audience. That small hall. It must have been like heaven
From what I read on other reaction videos of this song, Conan commented that the entire audience was incredibly silent and even his staff and crewhands behind stage stopped what they were doing just to listen to David. He said no other live act ever had such a captivated audience.
Bless you for actually listening all the way through and THEN reacting. Very refreshing. I just subbed to you bc of this.
He starts at F2 and runs to A4....!!! David Draiman is classically trained, and was also trained as a Cantor!
Listening to disturbed's normal music and songs helps to give more appreciation to how they do this song.
Bless you!! Finally a reaction without stopping every other minute!! David Draiman, trained as a Cantor!
They are my favorite band. I strongly recommend "The Light" or "Hold on to Memories".
THANK YOU for your response!! It was awesome because you didn't pause every 20 seconds. I really enjoyed your response. :D
Everybody gets chills with this song
excellent version, perfect .... the best !!!!!
You have to do the music video of this, it’s amazing with this
Jonny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails Hurt is another great cover.
Immense. Yet to hear this without shedding a tear it two.
What a voice!
Congratulations on appreciating the song. You walked the journey like the song deserves 👏👏
Brilliant song by a brilliant artist, so glad you didn't stop it every few seconds to tell us nothing we don't already know.
As emotional as this performance was, the video adds so much
One of my favorite renditions ever of this song and I have been a Simon and Garfunkel fan my whole life and playing music in bands throughout college law, school and high school and still playing now that I am in my 60s. David’s voice is surreal.
You want suggestions try "The Hu" their songs "Wolf Totem" "Yuve Yuve Yu" and also some of their collaborations
DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS!
This song is an amazing contrast to The Sound of Silence!
Imagine him finding the ooh wa a a ah after this, down with the sickness 😂
Simon Harry mal said to David from Disturbed that this song is his now. He was very proud of the way David sing it.
My own interpretation is this shows how we can't disconnect even if your sitting right in front of you then when someone does say something you don't hear because your not paying attention
Truly incredible voice. A joy to listen to.
Try reacting to Disturbed "Hold on to Memories" and "The Light," Both are amazing and a vastly different side of the band.
he doesn't need to comment --his expression does it perfectly.
I love watching peoples reaction to this song, as long as they don't stop it.
Sorry, continually through the song.

I became a fan of his when I heard this song. His voice is absolutely amazing. At the time he did this song he was actually quite sick. I don't even like heavy metal but I got the Evolution CD for this song and a few others. This was his ballad CD and it is great.
To be honest ( I hate when people say that) but, I don’t think there’s much you won’t like about these guys. If you want good cover music - they are spot on! If you want heavier stuff- spot on!
I am so glad to know you listened and loved them. Now look at the beauty of their music video for this….equally poetic and beautiful….
I’ve become a big fan of David Draiman
I've always been drawn to sounds like Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. David Draiman was another. Many of his songs are simply amazing. His coiver of Sound of Silence is probably one of the best songs ever recorded. Amazing voice.
Freaking awesome!!! And he was sick when he did this
At first when you said you didn't know of Disturbed, I was going to give you a hard time but I was pleased to see how blown away you were (as we all were when first hearing this song), which pushed you to learn more about the lead singer David. I've been a fan of these guys since I was a kid growing up in the 90's/early 2000's. As a former performer and musician myself, for these guys to adapt and progress their music the way they have is amazing to watch and I hope they get all the praise that they deserve.
By the way, hope you liked travelling in Canada! Ottawa native here :D P.S Just got you your 1000th like and subbed. Cheers Jordan!
You should check out Down With The Sickness to get a feel for what Disturbed usually does. Great band!
Watch the official video, the imagery magnifies the impact.
Such a beautiful and powerful song
First listened to this on the blacklist, a very moving scene wuth an awesome song
this takes me to a holy place
and as for top 100 with this showing it should be a top 10
