Masterclass with Professor Karl-Heinz Steffens in which they work on the second movement of Bernstein's Clarinet sonata. This masterclass took place in Santander during the Encounter of Music and Academy 2004.

Abstract:
Professor Steffens explains the connections between this movement and the musical West Side Story, it is a real duet with the piano. Sometimes the character should be more impressionistic, while the piano accompaniment creates a misty atmosphere. The clarinet has to speak clearer, more pronunciation, and to show all the different articulations. In slow passages, the expression should be more intense, exploding music. The final is more energetic and the student should try to open up. In general, the movement is a pursuit of different colours and dynamics.
