The irony of the 'deobjectification' of lara croft is that it is that same mindset that then ostracizes women who WANT to be sexual, who WANT to dress provocatively as it is their choice to do so, in real life you can dress and look however you want and how other people see you is their problem not yours, you're encouraged to look as sexual or not as you want so why is this same logic not applied to video game and movie characters. all it does is single out the women in the world who would have identified more with old lara croft and found her 'overly sexualised' design empowering. the women who cry out that not all women are skinny or pretty or sexy and push to have themselves more represented only leads to the absolute antithesis of the problem, you need old lara croft just as much as you need new lara croft. simple. if they wanted to create this lara croft then they should have under a different name - she isn't lara croft, she is someone else and that is okay but dont label her as someone she isn't just because you want the money from the fanbase.
Yeah, it's ridiculous how re-reboot fans who have never touched a real Tomb Raider game describe classic Lara as nothing but walking tits. The irony is so thick that it hurts.

I honestly hope you keep up with these reviews. Many people try to imitate the Mr. Plinkett format in their review videos, but few have managed to succeed in providing good critique as well as good humor. You've managed to change the format up and bring your own original brand of jokes and content into the mix. It's very entertaining and I end up watching these reviews for hours on end.

I hated the SO called Puzzles in this game, everyone involved using that damn BOW as a means to solve them, no variety. SMFH!
Great review as usual. This was a frustrating game to finish except for the mostly brilliant optional tombs. Can you imagine how fun a game would be if it was about puzzle solving and platforming???
Also the best voice actor for Lara is Jonell Elliott from TR 4-6.
actually I quite enjoyed the game.... but you get teased in the beginning (as was the entire marketing) of a level in Syria... or desert anyway; it's just one freaking small level and the rest of the game you're biting snow.... Do like the Indiana Jones like story... don't like that they hold your hand. Do like hard mode has these extra features that you have to spend wood and basically lid your own fire for a safe point.... but the enemies at that level are impossible; like you stealth kill 1 and every enemy knows directly where you are, causing you to just rambo style into it, instead of sneaking around.

These were great! Just binge watched the bunch. You plan on doing Shadow? Congrats! Felt the Plinket vibe. And appreciated the Portuguese politics in the intro.

I don’t have much of a problem with her desexualization. Her proportions are still realistic (B-C cup) and she still looks very attractive, she has more of an ethereal, “pretty” look instead of the sultriness and I actually that that wasn’t a terrible change. My only issue is the tone of the character and the tone of the games. Lara lost a lot of her spunk and sassiness in favor of realism but that semi-lack of drab reality was part of what made the games so fun. She lost a lot of her confidence and badassery and it’s a shame too. Croft was an incredibly empowering personality were it not for her caricature like proportions which understandly caused some eye brow raising. If they had the new design with the older, maybe mid 2000’s personality, that would be perfect for me. I also think The Tomb Raider reboot was a bit too tropey, with the dark, edgy tone and the focus on third person combat almost making it feel like an Uncharted clone, losing that third person platformer/explorer identity

DUDE, I just binge-watched all of your TR reviews and they were FANTASTIC! There were some moments that threw me off, but f that, your sheer respect for classic Lara and TR Underworld especially blew me away! Like, yes, we NEED to talk more on how great that game was, its music, epic move set and environment! And thank you for stressing on how fun Core Lara was wo a need of divine incentive or teary backstory to raid stuff! I've come to accept and somewhat like new TR trilogy, but boy did you fuel my dormant hate of how utterly meaningless its gameplay aspects are. These games are empty! I kinda liked the Shadow one, its setting and bigger exploring hubs etc, but it still has so many useless mechanics and uncharted sequences it hurts. Still, I hope one day we'll see your review on Shadow as well! And I reinstalled Anniversary after watching your review it's that good...

I grew up with Classic Lara, and seeing them mess with her look and personality left me with Mixed feelings about this new "Direction" the series has taken, It's a shame they're deviating from the Source Material, but at the same time I'm glad the series is still kicking, regardless of these changes that I guess they deemed necessary.

Credit where it's due: The remake games are very well made.
But it's not Tomb Raider, on principle.
Tomb Raider was like the Legend of Zelda with guns, and a badass female lead;
ALSO FIGHTING A T-REX.
Tomb Raider 2013 would be like making Pokemon into a super edgy, hyper violent monster summoning anime where the Poke-balls are magical artifacts and the Pokemon kill each other.
Or like turning Grand Theft Auto into a "Street Gangsta works undercover for the police to overthrow an illegal network of car-thieves and chop-shops".
Or like if they remade Devil May Cry's Dante into a hard-boiled detective who has to stop a secret demon invasion when he learns that his father, who taught him the trade of being a Private Investigator, was actually a demon spy who betrayed the armies of Hell and discovers he has super powers.
That'd be like if Resident Evil swapped out Umbrella and the B.O.W.s for a Necromancer Cult and supernatural zombies and demons.
The 2013 remake completely took the game and turned it upside down and removed everything that made Tomb Raider an individual compared to other games.
Well made as in it looks fine. Controls fine, voice actors are fine, sounds fine, and has some good concepts? Yeah.
Well made as in its pacing, expansion on introduced concepts, capitalization on assets, and respect for the player? Fuck no.

Around 75% way through the game I realised I could turn off voice dialouge and subtitles and it made the experience so much better, felt more like playing the older titles.

There was a big missed opportunity for her to wear her classic outfit in the 1st stage and in the Siberian wilderness her TR3 Antarctica jacket (With a hood added but the jacket in Siberia was fine for me)

Something I almost never hear about is the way lara moves in the new trilogy. Take the ridiculous jump distances. ( 27:22 for an example) It's feels like she's made of paper.
The auto crouch is so bad. It takes control away from the player and worst of all it alerts you that an enemy is near. Lara knows and responds before I know something is even there.
Also: fuck the scramble move! Just let me roll like a badass.

Tomb Raider Underworld was the last Tomb Raider game. Everything after was just total trash for dumb occasional players.

I got the impression from some of the other vids, that perhaps your pc died while you were in the process of putting it together(the review)....resulting in the whole thing becoming lost(unrecoverable hard drives) or something.....mad respect for your work otherwise...hope to see more /thumbs up
All the footage is there. but it's in the scripting phase now. Just trying to raise the standard so it's more on par with at least RE4.
Fun fact is the TR2013, ROTTR and SOTTR, PC PORTS were made in Netherlands, Utrecht LOL. Anyway I do like this one, 2013 was okay but not a TR game you know. This one and Shadow are okay in their own right, but like you said they could have swapped out this Lara Croft with anyone.

I learned everything I need to know about fps games from playing BLACK. I ain't a pro and can't always spell too right, but this game IS a waste of everyone's time.

Tomb Raider Guardian of Light was a 2010 under the radar fun genre shift. It's ignored a lot. I'm doing it too. And it's a shame because it's good fun. Nothing but game play from start to finish. And all in all a good dungeon crawling, action, puzzle outing.
Tomb Raider Temple of Osiris was a 2014 continuation where Lara makes friends with 2 gods who can wear tony hawk shirts and a black guy. There's probably a clip of the Metroid other M guy in there. 4 people can play. The puzzles are super well thought out. Buy it.

I was hoping Lara would have her trademark dual pistols. (It even showed her using dual pistols at the end of the previous game). I figured she would have been becoming more "badass" in the sequel.
Btw. she can't really dive until the very end of the game were she than can dive only one feet deep (30cm).

FUNFACT: according to steam I have 69 hours of play time in Rise of the Tomb Raider and I absolutely cannot remember any of the story. I also think I ran the benchmark A LOT after I upgraded a videocard or something.

I think a great concept for a tomb raider game would be to rip off the first zelda game. Open world map with tombs that you can explore in any order, but you need to finish all of them to complete the game, or unlock the last boss tomb. Plenty of cool things you can explore in the overworld. It's pretty low hanging fruit really.

If a kind soul wants to gift it sure. But out of the gates im sure everyones gonna scramble to get their review on the table despite the likely fact that shadow will be an unfinished game upon release. it'll go through updates and DLCs for a while until the cycle of milking out money is over. Only after that point would i actually be able to assess the product.

I'd argue that they would have had much more freedom to do whatever they wanted if they didn't bind themselves to Lara Croft name.

I like this game. I like this trilogy even. I think there's a lot in these games that even still has the overall spirit of the franchise at its core
That being said. I prefer nearly every classic Tomb Raider game over them. I'll play these games before I ever touch Chronicles or Angel of darkness again. Honestly probably put them on par with the last revelation because that one to me is also just as flawed as it is enjoyable
But these are fine cinematic action games. It's just that, that's not really what I look for from Tomb Raider. I want to explore. I want to feel like I am in some exotic locale seeing things that nobody has seen for centuries if not thousands of years
And most importantly. This new Lara Croft.... Is just not Lara Croft. She's a fine character if she was someone else, Ann Coulter perhaps. But the Lara Croft I grew up knowing and loving was a sassy, cocky, sarcastic, billionaire genius adrenaline junkie, who is quite possibly insane and ends up saving the world usually inadvertently rather than because of some sense of responsibility. She was a badass by choice
Ann is yet another hero that has to be forged from trauma. And it's done fine, but not exceptional. And it's just nowhere near as fun as the original character.
But I can't say I didn't have fun playing this game either.

it's amazing how they managed to screw up the aiming and controls in this game, while in TR2013 those are totally fine. even with 1.06 patch (PS4), there is still input lag and wonky aim. duhhh
that's bridget jones not lara croft. who needs tomb raiding when you can be playing lara creed or call of croft? you should have 100 times more subs fyi. if you can afford to invest in a google ad campaign or something like that to boost your search rating then imo u would gain back your outlay in subs due to your quality sincere content. also if this is in any way useful i found your channel in a playlist (long - form analysis) by searching 'video games analysis' looking forward to more of your content. thanks for that (sub'd)
