There is something profoundly insane about the subsidisation of industries which are fundamentally destructive and whose products amount to little more than a reflection of collective bad habits.
Tory Anne have you watched the video? They get great loss from sick people. Healthcare costs more than the military. If they could reduce that cost, they could invest in things like education or whatever that actually develops the country, not ruin it
ElysiumDiary Here we have a brainwashed meat-eater who tries to confuse people between an unhealthy meat-and-refined-sugars and a healthy whole foods plant based diet rich in unrefined sugars.
Hey Mic, new to your channel, love it bro. Went vegan last week, haven’t felt so much energy since I was a kid, I love it, thanks for all you do bro! Keep up the awesome research, videos and advice!
Great work man! Make sure to get flax/chia/hemp/walnuts daily for your omega 3 fatty acids. Eat legumes daily. You’ll stay healthy and stick with it. Much love.
You seem like an educated gentleman. I am confused. How exactly can meat emit more greenhouse gases. I know in the logistics of transportations (bringing feed crop from farm to meat farm) that emits way more than just bringing those feed crops to the market directly. But live stocks eat plants and plants eat co2. And the conversion form plant to meat is inefficient so by default there hast to be more plants around to eat or else the cow or lamb or whatever would starve. I wonder if the passive daily activities of all those plants leads to net co2 negative or equilibrium (not including the transportation logistics). If that isn't the case I wonder how the planet survived this long. Herbivores can move plants can't. I guess that is what carnivores/omnivores are for which I guess may not apply to agriculture anyway. They may sound crass to you but I am legitimately thinking this (not trying to insult anyone; just looking for clarification). If that is the case isn't the problem then factory farming's logistical failures rather then the abstract of eating meat? Cause sustainable livestock farming has been done or thousands of years while it was localized and primal. Like "Cook I have a grassy plain. Save some for hey for the winter. And in the mean time I'll use the oxen to pull the plows." that old fashion way. Of course if every factory farm switched to "the old ways" meat will be more expensive and rarer (pun intended) but at least the negative ecological effects would be negated. Hypothetically, I could be wrong. Oh and I don't mean the old way as in "Yeah let our oxen shit in our river (drinking supply/ and potentially cause an algae bloom). I mean old ways with a modern scientific filter. Maybe insect and methane consuming bacteria farming could take off. Someone please answer. Oh yeah one last thing; hydroponics. Isn't that also a logistical nightmare? Cause you essentially distilling swaths of the earth and chemically refining it rom god knows how far away from the esembly plant only to ship it to farm that always consumes electricity and that stuff isn't cheap.
Here would be an article that might help your understand what goes into animal farming: www.ecowatch.com/how-factory-farming-contributes-to-global-warming-1881690535.html (!The article doesn't have any sources linked, so don't take it at face value!)
Sorry, I somehow forgot to add it. I edited my comment and here is it again: www.ecowatch.com/how-factory-farming-contributes-to-global-warming-1881690535.html
So sad that we are horrible stewards of the resources on this planet. What a weird vicious cycle that has been created! I can't believe that the cost of electricity isnt factored into refrigeration to keep all the animal flesh and secretions from continuing to decompose.

Brandon Sams are you not familiar with methane? Watch the documentary cowspiracy, if you are really interested in learning more about this. You can also start by doing simple google searches on this subject.
Luigi 24 they should also warn about the health risk it carries in a similar way cigarettes do. Honestly I don't get why they don't do it to all harmful foods and drinks, like alcohol, processed sugar, oil..

ElysiumDiary hyperbolic much? Inuit's lived very short lives??? Keep grasping at those few studies paid for by the industry it supports.... did you even watch the video? Keep up the remedial mind games so you can enjoy the taste of what you eat more than anything else.....
Even if it tastes good if is expensive normal people can't afford it, how is possible that a meat burger cost more than a vegan burger or 1 liter of milk is cheaper than 1 liter of plant base milk is just make nonsense
@@harg88 Totally! Oatly is 5.99 a quart and dairy is 1.99 a quart where I am. The math doesn't add up it a truly free market. It's all complete nonsense and people need to realise this. Mic makes the best thorough videos on these matters and is great at using proper scientific sources and studies.
realising how selfish, hedonistic and short-sighted you sound when trying to defend eating animal products made me cringe so much before I was vegan. it was like a psychological mirror that i was ashamed to loook into. definitely the decisive factor in changing my diet
Rather, our ancestors subsided on primarily hunting to get them by before they discovered agriculture. Going keto was the best thing Ive done in my life. But hey not knocking your diet or anything.
This is f**King crazy. I have always been a meat eater (44) and this guy is the only man that has EVER made me even want to give it a shot (veganism). The key is his attack on both ethical AND health fronts. You are going to care about at least one aspect. Can't promise I am going to be successful (also an alcoholic so there you go) but I'm going to try. Love your passion and enthusiasm Mike
Richard Taylor - its never too late to make a change for the better. Im 32 and ate meat my whole life. Ive been vegan for 5 months and feel so much healthier. I honestly thought I NEEDED meat for some reason... now I don't even see it as food. Good luck on your journey! Check out the vegan zombie for recipes (he's 40years old I believe and he's been vegan for most of his life) CHEERS!
I wish you the best Richard Taylor. Going vegan was the best decision of my life. 46 and my kids can't keep up with me. Running 4 miles a day. Perfect bloodwork. And a vitality that I didn't know existed. Everyone is different... But, I really like the sense of knowing that things didn't have to die for my existence. I"ts freeing if that makes any sense. I wish you the best on your journey.
Great video, as always. I read Meatonomics a while back. It was truly eye opening. Let's just hope when we start taxing meat we can drive down the cost of produce to help people in poverty... And as I always say in my comments, I would love a video on iron and anemia. I have a friend with anemia who refuses to listen when I talk anout iron, and I'd love a Mic video to back me up! ;) Thanks so much for all your hard work!
I've been vegan for almost 2 years now. When talking to people about that, sometimes they come back with claims that if everyone was vegan we would need more agriculture farm land for growing fruits/vegetables to humans. I typically counter that the acres of land used to grow grains for animals is more than enough to offset that because as we reduce animal production we would use the acres of grain feed and replace with various other veggies. However, I don't have clear picture of those numbers. Can you do a video on that? Also, recently I hear tons of stuff about glyphosate and how being vegan means we're eating tons of that stuff. I try to counter that with bio-accumulation theories but dont have strong numbers to debate the topic. Can you discuss how glyphosate impacts vegans? The claim is that even with organic, there is still glyphosate. I don't know how to respond to those arguments.
Matt Denman if i remember correctly, Mic did create another video about land use in a vegan world versus in our current world a while back. Don’t think I’ve ever heard him speak about glyphosate though
I think it’s the one called “Why Veganism Failed in Land Use Study”. He describes the experimental design flaws of the study and what kind of land use veganism would really “consume”.
it is like most of what they say. not only wrong but the direct opposite of the truth. the entire population of the world could be fed from an area the size of texas using modern permaculture gardening methods. these not only produce more but of much higher quality also. about half the land surface area of the earth is lost to animal agriculture the other half being mostly desert and the wilds of siberia.
I think glyphosate is a huge issue that I’d like to see addressed but I think the average person consumes more than they think they do regardless of what diet they subscribe to. It helps to eat organic but of course the stuff is in the environment already and one can’t totally avoid it unless they grew all their own food. I would think that meat contains more than the average veggie though considering the feed they eat is probably loaded with it. Again, I’d love to see a video on that.
Remove the subsidies and industry welfare from industrial animal agriculture and make them pay for all the damage they do to animals, humans and the planet.... which, in turn, forces consumers to pay the REAL price for animal products, which would probably at least double the cost.... and more people would change their lifestyle.
Shayke Speeer I wouldn't I get my beef right from the source I pay market price. One of my childhood friends and myself we go into together on one. We buy it when it's a calf October it's a butcher size. We do everything at my home. My family and I try to avoid spending as little as possible at grocery store.
When he died in Germany, his body was sent back to Russia in a coffin-like fridge with a table on it: "Fresh oysters". I know it's anecdotal but still true.
I lean conservative/libertarian in my political beliefs. Whenever I see conservatives bash veganisn, I always bring up the federal subsidies of the meat/dairy industry. I have yet to get a response from conservatives/libertarians who claim they are against federal subsidies but don't ever answer my question.
jero pons thanks Jero. Difficult enough to take an extra day and I hate releasing more than 7 days apart. Kills me. Honesty it was also the statistics exam for my Masters in Public Health that delayed it. Just happy that David was so quick to the draw.
Mic the Vegan Nevertheless you always deliver the best content! It's better to take a few extra days, if needed, and make an awesome super complete video than to release one quick but not so good. Good look with the exams, I'm sure you've trained enough with the tons of studies and statistics you read to do these videos haha
I have been saying this for a long time in regards to why I think there is so much propaganda against soy. Soy is mostly fed to animals. Animal agriculture does not want soy to be a marketable product towards human consumption as that direct demand will increase the cost of animal products.
Caroline, I feel foolish responding to someone so horrible as you but I will try. Farm animals are not dumb. They are sentient beings who want to live like you. They deserve freedom and a better life than to be housed in horrible living condition packed together like they are nothing only to meet their end in a slaughter house. Have some compassion. I have read your posts before. You are a very bitter nasty woman. It's not too late to change. Do some research. See how these commercial farm institutions treat animals. It will make you sick and cry. Please please at least try to see life through the eyes of these animals for a few seconds. Get out side of yourself. It will change your life.
Caroline S. You sound like a very unpleasant, twisted and bitter person. Please keep trolling on vegan sites: seeing comments from people like you will push tons of people towards veganism.
Natalie, so what do you want, all the animals to be released running in the streets pooping on everything dying of starvation? We humans gave them life for awhile and then it's time for them to give back. They are stunned before execution. They don't feel a thing. You vegans need to stop worrying about animals.Worry about your own health issues caused by a lousy vegan diet. Meat is king of foods. It always will be. Vegans have way too much time on their hands. I'm beginning to think most don't work. How far do food stamps stretch on a vegan diet?
Did you mention the effects of pesticides sprayed on the feed corn and soy that cause autism and birth defects in addition to chronic illnesses? (Dr Greger has the video on autism causes) That’s a cost of pain and suffering that can’t be measured. I live in an area with heavy spraying, so I am reminded of the problem regularly. 😢
Hey Mic! Can you do a video about food addiction and why some people (cough cough me) will go a week or two weeks without any animal products, but then they will binge. Maybe I'm just weak and my resolve isn't strong enough (even after watching Earthlings). However, I have been doing my research, but I think a video on food addiction (not just cheese) might be helpful to other people who binge. Maybe having a video acknowledging this aspect of why not everyone succeeds at veganism might encourage people like me to keep the goal to be vegan. I'm not quitting veganism personally, I'm still trudging, but I just think a food addiction video might be helpful.
What are your macronutrient ratios like? I had a similar problem eating a low fat high carb vegan diet, feeling generally unsatisfied with my food and always a little hungry. I've started adding some plant-based fats (avocados, nuts, and seeds) to my meals recently and my satisfaction after a meal has shot up, plus my need to snack constantly has waned. Perhaps adding some whole food plant based fats could help? I'm no expert on the matter, of course, and I've only just started eating this way after watching some videos by Milo on his Healthy Crazy Cool TH-cam channel. Sorry for the long reply but I hope it may help in some way. :)
Sam Tier I've been trying this way of eating since February, and I have tried multiple things, I think it's a bit deeper than just not getting enough whole food fats. It's more of a. Mind over matter issue I think..... I don't know.... Anyways thank you very much for the suggestions and I will keep them in mind thank uou
Cecilia Warfield Maybe you are not getting sufficient calories when you eat vegan food? Try to plot your foods into chronometer to see your caloric intake and your macros.
Great information, thank you for interviewing David Simon, Mic and to Luigi too. So, if you are not concerned about Animal Cruelty, the Environment or Health, then be concerned about Your Tax $$$ being thrown away. Go Vegan and help yourself to a better life. (Australia is steeped in animal agricultural subsidies and when there is the inevitable drought then even more $$$ is thrown at these industries. For such a delicate, soil depleted country it is crazy to have sheep and cattle farming and feedlots here, still modelled on the 'Mother' country. A country of rich soils, regular and high rainfall. Great to hear meat will inevitably be taxed.)
+Barry Maskell The meat is still subsidized in other ways - Water, the huge amount of it required, whether they are paying for it or not it doesn't matter - Destruction of the eco-system - Ecoli outbreaks that government has to deal with - Smog and the associated respiratory costs(you seen LA?) etc

+Barry Also multiple studies have found that waste is still high in meat based diet. Meat eater still need vegetables like lettuce. link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10584-014-1169-1%EF%BB%BF Also for one of your citations: "Meat and Livestock Australia, the nation's peak research and development body for the sheep and cattle industry, co-funded the study and has embraced the results." Even that study on methane emission doesn't deny it...It still says 12 million ton of methane is released. Also the last link. "British-bred beef and lamb to meat substitutes imported from abroad such as tofu and Quorn would increase the amount of land cultivated, raising the risk of forests being destroyed." Depends heavily on the kind of farming. Meateater diet require around the same or even more..Most of our food is fed to the cows and other livestock. Maybe revitalizing the already land used for cows and others would be much better idea . news.cornell.edu/stories/1997/08/us-could-feed-800-million-people-grain-livestock-eat
Thanks for that, Mic. It's really amazing to see/hear the amount of money that people spend on their Happy Meal , in terms of externalized costs...WOW. Keep the amazing content coming!
Mic, thank you soooo much for your evidence based informative videos. I always enjoy posting you on my fb and sending you to my loved ones which Always starts a dialogue. Knowledge is power🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thanks for doing my dirty work, whenever the fascinating subject of my vegan diet comes up, and believe me, it does! There's the usual barrage of questions. Just watch Mic the Vegan, it's ALL there buddy! Made my life so much easier 🍌
Tevž Globokar this fucking ideology better never get to eastern europe need all of the retarded vegans to die out of their own sterilization so we can be the last ones left
So, a £4.89 Big Mac Meal would actually cost about £12.59 if the retail price included hidden expenses that meat producers offload onto society. That means a family of four eating at Mcdonalds would cost roughly about £52.23! GODDAMN!!! But also, average non-specified meat would still be pricey. A gallon of milk would cost about £20. A pack of bacon would be about £14-16, etc. If animal products actually cost what it was meant to cost, a lot more people would go vegan. If we're going to subsidize food, we need to subsidize healthy foods! P.S How depressing would it be for a chicken who spent their entire existence being tortured, only to find out their life is only worth 99p for a Chicken Mayo Sandwich off the Savers Menu?
Mic, You talked about externalised costs a lot, which is great and it got me thinking about many of those side effect costs that are still paid by the consumer (which I think is most externalised costs). Might be difficult to calculate real world values per hamburger but I think the rhetorical power of making it clear that when someone buys a hamburger they pay X amount more in medical bills, X amount more in taxation needed to repare destroyed environments, etc. An explanation that makes it clear that consumers are still paying for these additional costs.
Mic, at 12:58, you say that "externalized costs [are] about up to three times what you might pay at the counter". Was this based on the rough Big Mac figures of $5 and $13? If so and if these are right, it would only imply that externalized costs are 1.6x what you pay. (13 - 5) / 5 = 1.6. That's still a ton, but how did you get 3x? Did you mean to say that those costs should require you to pay nearly 3x as much for animal products?
Brazilian rainforest - good point! Eating more meat would be a good way to save it, since we then could convert more monocrops to pastures, on other continents as well as in Brazil. Then, instead of shipping plant food all around the world, we could just eat locally raised ruminants and leave the rainforest alone.
A useful distinction is between staple and non-staple crops. Staple crops are calorie dense and can be used as primary sources of calories. Examples: beans, grains, potatoes. Non-staple crops, like vegetables and fruits, are not calorie dense but are often nutrient dense. For an apples to apples comparison, the cost of animal products should be compared to the cost of staple crops.
Have you ever done a video about the amazing health benefits of molecular hydrogen? Love the channel and I’m vegan, but would enjoy hearing your knowledge on Hydrogen water :) and any other water info, such as distilled , RO, etc
I think that one of the major reasons why meat is so cheap is what is called Economies of scale. Basically this means that a larger factory is more efficient and the per unit costs are lower. So because meat products are produced at higher volumes they can reduce the unit costs, and the volume of vegan mock meats for example is pretty low and therefore the per unit costs are higher.
Mic, if you run for congress and push for fair agriculture (plants v meat) you will get so much support! Please do it. Signed, fellow fed up Midwesterner.
I mean, it's not profitable in America to subsidize fresh fruits and veggies. They have lobbiests from all sides who would riot if they drop the subsidies for animal products BECAUSE it causes heart disease. Why would insurance companies and hospitals want people to have less heart disease when they make so much money from it? Same with obesity and all the health problems that come along with that. In places with universal health care, we are slowly shifting towards a fight on obesity. This includes many European countries adding a sugar tax, and many governments encouraging meat free days. I personally feel like they're targetting the wrong industries (sugar instead of both sugar and cholesterol), but Denmark once tried to tax fat and it was disasterous for their economy so I can see why they're slowly easing into it instead of going gungho.
Not sure if you’ve already made a video on this.... I’m vegan. My family isn’t. I don’t live with them so it’s no issue there but knowing that they’re living unhealthy & unethically is bothersome. My vegan knowledge & therefore influence is solid when I’m around but I feel pushy when I keep asserting my option. I was wondering, because my family members aren’t brain-less, if I could ask them to quit just one animal product, which would it be? To make the biggest health impact and /or world impact. Thanks Mic, you da best!
So I’m about to buy a new MacBook Pro and apple is offering a pair of free beats headphones for every Mac purchase. The problem is that beats use leather on their ear muffs and I don’t want that shit if there’s leather on it. Does anyone know if there’s a leather free beats or should I just tell them I don’t want the free headphones.
josh knix true but I think it might still be supplying the demand for the leather. They won’t have to replace the headphones with another pair if I don’t take them
Nico V yeah they won't have to replace them if you don't take them but that means nothing to them. At least when you have them, you understand what actually went into them. Most people just blindly buy things and don't understand that their actions have consequences. Not accepting the headphones won't make any difference but I see where it could be hard for you. You could also sell them. They aren't cheap by any means and it'd be hard for me to pass up on something that cost $200-$300. The leather they use also might be synthetic leather. I'm not sure but I'd look into it before I make my decision if I were you. I know with things like this, it's not uncommon for a company to market them as leather but actually use faux leather.
I agree with the people saying to pass on the headphones, but you should know that Apple is a company that doesn't only harm animals but also harms and violates human rights in the process of making the products. Companies like Apple, nike, forever 21, h&m make their products in 3rd world countries and exploit people. You should do some research on it because if I were you I would buy it used so your not supporting a company like that
Don't worry mic. Ronald Mcdonald is contractually banned from eating McDonald's. Not even kidding. They won't let their mascot eat their own food. That should tell you how good it is for us.
Great info Mic. Glad to know about this book and David Simon because I have been looking for a good source of the true cost of meat. I love the production. One other fun fact: The federal government guarantees bank loans for factory farms through two programs of the USDA and the SBA. That means if someone goes out of business before their three quarters of a million dollar - Or More - CAFO is paid off, we taxpayers pay off the loan. These loans are guaranteed up to 85-95%. Nice, huh? Also the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service provides funding through one of their programs originally designed for conservation efforts to build the pits that hold the raw hog sewage under the factory farm building - among other things. Money has to be taken out of political campaigns. That's the bottom line. Nothing will change substantially until then. Great work on this show.
Has Mic uploaded any videos about recommended brands of actual Vegan supplements? I recently found out that the supplements I bought had gelatin in them... and I foresaw this happening
What does life saving antibiotics cost? Antibiotic resistance happens fast because of they are given to livestock as growth promoters. Please include the cost of loosing antibiotics.
I’m fully plant based now and my wife is moving towards being vegetarian. Thanks again for the videos Mic 🌱
Josh Spiv Great! For the wife: better be moving towards vegan or else towards the door.

Yes, great to do a Paleo rebuttal in the Caveman costume!
Ending subsidies for meat and increasing subsidies for veggies would be the most likely ways to lead to a surge in veganism
Why would he government do that when they get no profit from healthy people
Tory Anne have you watched the video? They get great loss from sick people. Healthcare costs more than the military. If they could reduce that cost, they could invest in things like education or whatever that actually develops the country, not ruin it

I’m with you...I don’t believe governments will end meat subsidies willingly...we’ll need to build a mass movement to apply pressure

I guess you’ve never seen Vegan Gains, Jon Venus or Hench Herbivore...all three of these guys are vegan and muscular.
Melvin Olaverria really good for you... I'm so glad.. Please try to continue this wonderful journey friend... . May God blesss you...
Melvin Olaverria Awesome! 👍👍 And yes, I can attest to the energy part, more energy at almost 40 than when I was in my early 20s 🤟
Great work man! Make sure to get flax/chia/hemp/walnuts daily for your omega 3 fatty acids. Eat legumes daily. You’ll stay healthy and stick with it. Much love.
Yikes 30 percent of ice free land? Vegan six months today btw :)

Thank you for all that you do bro
Here would be an article that might help your understand what goes into animal farming:

(!The article doesn't have any sources linked, so don't take it at face value!)
Thanks but were is it? What is it called? On what site?
Sorry, I somehow forgot to add it. I edited my comment and here is it again:

No problem. Thank you for replying.
So sad that we are horrible stewards of the resources on this planet. What a weird vicious cycle that has been created! I can't believe that the cost of electricity isnt factored into refrigeration to keep all the animal flesh and secretions from continuing to decompose.
plant it up baby
Prove your claim
Plant Planet Earth How do you keep your lettuce, tomatoes, apples, oranges from going bad?? I put mine in the crisper in my refrigerator.
are you vegan tho

As all practical as I can be I have been vegan for almost 2 years.
All your videos are really informative and your charisma helps a lot. I need to show this video to my family members. Thank you!
*Mic, you’re sassy. It’s great. Can you be more sassy? Please & thanks.*
Cassandra Bankson and mic are sexy.
Brandon Sams are you not familiar with methane? Watch the documentary cowspiracy, if you are really interested in learning more about this. You can also start by doing simple google searches on this subject.
thx for the lead. Can I get a summery?
Brandon Sams CO2 is good for planet, Methane gas isn't.
Just the other day I asked myself the question again when I was in the supermarket - and now you answered it :D
VegAnimation . . . This is only. a majority of the meat in this country 80 to 90 percent.
Wow thanks man. Yes meat should be taxed. Processed meat would probably go first since it’s a carcinogen in the same classification as cigarettes.
Luigi 24 they should also warn about the health risk it carries in a similar way cigarettes do. Honestly I don't get why they don't do it to all harmful foods and drinks, like alcohol, processed sugar, oil..
ElysiumDiary and you don’t link a source to back up your ridiculous claim...
its actually a lot worse than cigarettes.

ElysiumDiary hyperbolic much? Inuit's lived very short lives??? Keep grasping at those few studies paid for by the industry it supports.... did you even watch the video? Keep up the remedial mind games so you can enjoy the taste of what you eat more than anything else.....
"But it tastes so good" that's the defence for all this ? And pure apathy.
The homie mic with more facts, ye-yeah!!!
Great video, as always. I read Meatonomics a while back. It was truly eye opening. Let's just hope when we start taxing meat we can drive down the cost of produce to help people in poverty...
And as I always say in my comments, I would love a video on iron and anemia. I have a friend with anemia who refuses to listen when I talk anout iron, and I'd love a Mic video to back me up! ;)
Thanks so much for all your hard work!
I think he did a video on deficiency
Love that you covered this!!! You are amazing!!!!
The glyphosate should accumulate in the animals as well, am I wrong?
it is like most of what they say. not only wrong but the direct opposite of the truth. the entire population of the world could be fed from an area the size of texas using modern permaculture gardening methods. these not only produce more but of much higher quality also. about half the land surface area of the earth is lost to animal agriculture the other half being mostly desert and the wilds of siberia.
@@shawndarling5855 most people don't. That's her point.
Okay, I DO want a video on Anton Chekhov though.
I'm a vegan libertarian! I am against all subsidies!
I am libertarian and objectivist leaning and also an ethical vegan!

Holy **** such a powerfully amazing video! Thanks so much
Astounding video Micke! This one must have been difficult to make
jero pons thanks Jero.
Sweet sweet information
I have been saying this for a long time in regards to why I think there is so much propaganda against soy. Soy is mostly fed to animals. Animal agriculture does not want soy to be a marketable product towards human consumption as that direct demand will increase the cost of animal products.
Matthew Brosnan Interesting though 🤔
It's also one of the most widely available and affordable alternatives, so I guess an obvious target for criticism.
Meat is costly in so many ways, to the environment, health, mental well being, and most of all to the murdered tortured animals.
You are very twisted. Meat is healthy and nutritional. So what if dumb animals die so humans can live. Vegans are fools, all of you.
Caroline Stevens animals aren't being killed so we can live...we can live without meat....next....
Cheers Sweetie! Another good vid 👍

Food addiction is huge....even if it's Healthy foods. You'll find out if you go on a Fast.
You're so quick!!

The meat is still subsidized in other ways
- Water, the huge amount of it required, whether they are paying for it or not it doesn't matter
- Destruction of the eco-system
- Ecoli outbreaks that government has to deal with
- Smog and the associated respiratory costs(you seen LA?)
etc

Also for one of your citations:
"Meat and Livestock Australia, the nation's peak research and development body for the sheep and cattle industry, co-funded the study and has embraced the results."
Even that study on methane emission doesn't deny it...It still says 12 million ton of methane is released.
Also the last link.
"British-bred beef and lamb to meat substitutes imported from abroad such as tofu and Quorn would increase the amount of land cultivated, raising the risk of forests being destroyed."
Depends heavily on the kind of farming. Meateater diet require around the same or even more..Most of our food is fed to the cows and other livestock. Maybe revitalizing the already land used for cows and others would be much better idea .

Thanks for that, Mic. It's really amazing to see/hear the amount of money that people spend on their Happy Meal , in terms of externalized costs...WOW. Keep the amazing content coming!

Great video parcero, thanks for this information, it is very useful. Greetings from Boyacá, Colombia my friend.
Excellent information. Thank you. Shared.
Thank you! I was probably overhyping subsidies rather than talking about generalized externalized costs!
Thanks for doing my dirty work, whenever the fascinating subject of my vegan diet comes up, and believe me, it does! There's the usual barrage of questions. Just watch Mic the Vegan, it's ALL there buddy! Made my life so much easier 🍌

Yes, post the full interview . Please!
Thanks David Simon for such interesting and eye opening information!!
PS. And thank you Mic for the video!! Awesome as always!
Thank you for this video! I was trying to explain this topic exactly to people who called animal products "cheap"
I need that whole interview in my life !!! Great Video :D
End meat subsidies, subsidize fruits, vegetables and plant proteins instead!
Thank you for making this video, Mic!
Why isnt this public knowledge?! This should be mandatory info.

love your work, thank you!
Please post the whole interview!
P.S How depressing would it be for a chicken who spent their entire existence being tortured, only to find out their life is only worth 99p for a Chicken Mayo Sandwich off the Savers Menu?
meatonomics is absolutely fantastic. thoroughly reccomend
Mic,
You talked about externalised costs a lot, which is great and it got me thinking about many of those side effect costs that are still paid by the consumer (which I think is most externalised costs).
Another great video! Thanks for posting
Can chia seeds be replaced for flax in daily dozen? It's actually cheaper on UK Amazon that flax
It might make sense to include growing antibiotic resistance as an externalized cost of animal agriculture.
Great video Mic
Not to forget that every animal is a living being and has an individual character. How little or much is a life worth?
This is great info. Thank you.
I really like this MCvegan ginger
I’d love to see the whole interview with Meatonomics author :)
I've ordered the book by the end of the video
Even the pics of meat in the thumbnail gross me out so bad
Can you do a video on the chakra system?
It's bullshit.
Brazilian rainforest - good point! Eating more meat would be a good way to save it, since we then could convert more monocrops to pastures, on other continents as well as in Brazil. Then, instead of shipping plant food all around the world, we could just eat locally raised ruminants and leave the rainforest alone.
Excellent material here.
Video on intensive agriculture / permanence culture? Thanks!
Very informative video Mic
Thanks a lot
Mic the vegan, question: so we probably should try to avoid usda certified organic fruits, grains and veggies when possible?
fantastic, thank You for the information.
Big macs already do cost around $13 here in Canada.
Great Video! please post the full interview :)
Hope they tax the shit out of meat and implement more veggie subsidies soon!
Mic the Vegan or Mic the Legend?
Well said & well researched! :)
On point as always.
Woahhhh I actually just bought the book meatenomics.
Excelent video!
Your vids are the best. Keep them coming please. I see all this cattle as I drive around the u.s. and it makes me really frustrated with our society.
Nico V if they are free then they have already been paid for and u can just not use the earmuffs that come with it and get new earmuffs
Nico V just take them. They've already been made and the cow has already been killed, you can't go back in time and save it.
josh knix true but I think it might still be supplying the demand for the leather.

It's true. Or at least it was.
I just bought ny steaks on sale, 4 for 30 bux! What s deal!
Unfortunately, the extra health care costs associated with eating meat don't make up for the occasional bargain.
What does life saving antibiotics cost? Antibiotic resistance happens fast because of they are given to livestock as growth promoters. Please include the cost of loosing antibiotics.
