Explanation of the "shattered planets": Bingo comes from Earth, and the other one you see broken open is Venus, representing Bluey. They're "shattered" because the rock planets represent Chilli's eggs, and their kids came out of them. The reason Mercury, the first planet from the sun, is intact is because Chilli had a miscarriage prior to having Bluey. That's why Bluey is Venus (2nd child) and Bingo is Earth (3rd). It's also why the stuffed rabbit is represented by the moon; it's Earth's protector, always nearby to keep Earth safe. Chilli is the sun because she's the center of the family, and Bandit is Jupiter because he's a gas giant (and also another protector of the inner planets, AKA, kids).

There’s so much symbolism in this episode! Obviously you figured out that Chilli (the mom) is the sun, but then Bandit (the dad) is Jupiter, Bingo is Earth, and Bluey is Mars (you can see the Bluey’s cracked planet towards the beginning). Also the score that’s playing throughout the episode is Jupiter from the orchestral suite The Planets

13:51 "Bluey" has a LOT of musical covers of classic composers, and this one is part of "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from a multi-suite composition called "Hosts' Planets," where each planet in the Solar System gets a character, personality, and music to represent them. This musical piece, especially in this episode, brought me to tears.

The best thing about this series is that on its surface its a childrens show for kids. But it is also a show for the parent and guardians who are watching with their kids and soothing their adult's inner child as well. So it's nurturing and soothing at least 2 generations of kids.

  • @quizzicalsphinx
    @quizzicalsphinx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +53

The music does so much heavy lifting in this episode: the sweet, triumphant crescendo as the sun comes up through the window, signify that Bingo has achieved her goal of sleeping through the night. It's such a simple thing, and in the years to come, she'll probably forget all about the first night she slept alone in her big-girl bed. But in this moment, she's triumphant--and she won't even know it until she wakes in the morning. The music celebrates one of the many small victories of childhood.
It's also kind of neat that this piece is titled "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity." In her visit to the planets, her father's represented by Jupiter, and Bandit does indeed bring a lot of jollity to his daughters' lives.

I used to have REALLY bad anxiety and panic attacks, all the way from when I was a kid. I used to have anxiety attacks almost constantly, and panic attacks daily.
It didn't help that I was badly abused as a kid, which certainly made things worse.
But it turns out that at least part of my problem is that my electrolytes were completely out of whack. Try balancing your intake of calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium (especially the latter, since it's hard to get enough through food; I'd suggest supplementing it specifically, and focusing more on food for the rest). I haven't had a single panic attack since I started paying close attention to my electrolyte balance, and my anxiety has massively improved.
      Good luck.

This episode was analyzed by a therapist. According to him, the things kids do to put off bedtime like asking for water, songs, monster checks or one more story are actually separation anxiety, since most young kids don't sleep in the same room as their parents and for most of human (dog?) history, children who were not near their parents as they slept would be in danger so they evolved to be warry of being alone the dark until a certain age. Bluey is probably not thirsty, she just wants her parents.

Transitional object. Bingo isn’t quite old enough to be without yet. So her toy rabbit is a transitional object.
Bandit doesn’t wake because he is exhausted as this probably happens every night. Can be hard to sleep in the Brisbane heat, too. As a parent you develop a miraculous tolerance for being woken up by your kids. Partly because you’re always pleased to see them. Also because you know that if you get annoyed it will just be harder to get back to sleep again.
The music is Jupiter by Holst. I saw qld symphony orchestra play it when I was a kid growing up in Brisbane.
The episode called cricket is guaranteed to make adult cricketers cry (people who are notorious for being stoic).

This was the very first bluey episode I ever saw. i was working in a special education room at an elementary school and they were having a bluey party where they watched a few episodes. This was the first one that came up so it was the first one i ever saw. I was legitimately crying by the end and the kids made fun of me. when the sun comes up and she's in her bed, it just gets to me. She did it. She woke up in her bed (granted she went on an adventure during the night but who cares). this one, camping, and the one with chili chasing after her dad to get him to rest are the only three that make me cry every single time i watch them. i'm also a huge fan of jupiter (the music).
As a side note, they do actually have a picture book version of this episode on the bluey website. so you can get this as a bed time story lol

I am always blown AWAY by the score for this episode. I have always loved Gustav Holst's Jupiter's theme (the melody played while Bingo is talking to the sun), but the way it is used during this episode always brings me to tears. Being familiar with it before seeing this episode, I always marvel how this episode gives it new meaning. The animation gives the music meaning, yet the music also gives the animation power. I wish Mathew had taken a moment to really take in the way the music and story worked together for a really powerful moment. For the most part, the characters didn't need to speak (of course, Chilly's words at the end is just the cherry on top) . The events of the episode spoke for themselves and the music carried the episode very beautifully.

The whole underlying theme/topic of this episode is about Separation Anxiety. TH-cam channel Mended Light (AKA one half of the Cinema Therapy pair) did an episode on this episode as well as a few others that are worth checking out: th-cam.com/video/Mh8YRm0ruJk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=icwumKponTyKYWHT
In fact, a lot of Bluey episodes have interesting underlying messages and topics and handle its deeper meanings in absolutely beautiful ways. Nothing's ever forced but it does allow the show to be for parents and adults as much as the show is for kids in wholesome ways.
Also, it was quite a genius way for the show to use the "Jupiter" movement of Gustav Holst's "The Planets" suite.

Believe me, sleepytime is the best episode, but it's very different from a normal bluey episode, so if you want the full bluey experience, watch any other episode (although rain is a purely visual and music episode, no dialog, so it's also different from the normal bluey episode).
One cool thing I want to mention is that bluey is actually getting a 28 minute special for the season 3 finale. We don't know what it's about or when it's coming, but we know it will happen. Just as a referance, every bluey episode so far has been 7 minutes on the dot (unlike other shows, it strictly keeps to a specific length) (ok, the 7 minutes include the theme song and the credits, but it's still wild that they managed to make every episode the exact same length).

As a father myself lol, it wasn't that Bandit(Dad) wasn't waking up, it was that he was used to being abused physically as the strong male of the household. Bandit is often the punching bag for his children's happiness, which he takes this role with pride as he of course has other roles that far outshine it. But yes, it's not that he wasn't awake, it was just that he was used to it and was just trying to power through it like a strong yet loving father. It of course ended however like most things as a father.... Direct damage to the groin... 😅
