  • WATCH NEXT: • ABANDONED AMC Rambler ...
    We're pulling the 196 cubic inch straight six engine out of the abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler Classic Deluxe project car. With the engine pulled we can replace the seal on the front pump of the transmission. The seal leaks transmission fluid bad. Once a new seal is installed & the engine is back in the car, we can start the engine & see if the transmission leaks or not.

      It's life changing moving to another State especially by yourself.
      Just thinking of you, Sir.

    I already binged all the Rambler videos. My first car was a 63 Classic but it had the 287 V8. It was a great car.

      That's neat. A Classic with a V8 is something I'd like to experience. I appreciate you binge watching. That's why I make the videos. The engine will be back in very soon & if it doesn't leak we're driving it.

    So good to see you back again! You started off with time crunch and I just felt for you, dude! I have done so many 196's at this point I can recite the steps in my sleep and prep a tool tray like a surgeon before I begin: .its 2.5 hours to an engine sitting on a dolly on the floor when I drop it from underneath: I always leave the converter in the car so the lifting process does not hurt converter teeth or the front pump. Im at 47::04 in and yelling at you that If you pull the water pump you can leave the engine in the car through working underneath while it dangles on a crane can be un nerving. At 57:00 while the chicken roasts in the oven and you are obviously tired and have missed the four sometimes five little screws on the lower tin cover. Thank God this car does not have PS. Reinstalling that torque steer rod onto the generator bracket area can be a nightmare with the RAM in the way. You need help pulling a car holler use the info on the letter I sent and hit me up. Almost ways up for a road trip and the good story it yields. While its out throw a 2" feeeze plug in the back of the head. The torque converters rarely crack: the flex plates do! BTW, the 196 without converter weighs 545 lbs. Thanks for a great drama filled project to watch....

    • @freemansgarage
      @freemansgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's a lot to unpack as they say.
      Yeah, I sure wasted a lot of time on those little screws. I didn't think the caked-on transmission fluid was as thick as it was. You couldn't even see the screws. I should've assumed.
      Ah...torque steer rod. That's what it's called. Thank you.
      We'll see how hauling the cars go. I've got a 1 ton & have been sniffing around at a used 40' gooseneck.
      I'll probably put throw a freeze plug later when I pull the engine back to paint it & degrease the trans etc. At the moment I just want the car together, drivable & not leaking.
      If I knew the engine weighed that much, I wouldn't have been so careless during extraction!
      Thanks for the thoughtful & informative comment as always.

    A 350 Chevy with a turbo 350 and a ford 9” would make that bread box a cool sleeper.

      Thank you. I really appreciate that. A few hang ups but hoping to close soon. I'm getting work done on the cars & making videos at the same time.
      I want you to know that I did receive the package at the PO box. I can't thank you enough for that. It's helpful in many ways. I made an Extra channel PO box run video with it. I'll be publishing that video soon.
      Thank you again for the well wishes & all the support.

    While you have engine out, give that engine, the engine bay and front suspension bay a good pressure washing. Good luck and press on!

    The seal fits on the torque convertor.

    The seal rides on the converter, not the shaft.

    • @freemansgarage

      North, but not as far north as I'd like. I'd probably bed settled in early August. My move will cut about 5-6 hours off the ND drive.

    UM, I would pull the Trans. & really clean it or have a Pro. look at it. I understand money & time might be a problem though but it's the best option in my opinion.
    How far are you moving away ? Plan on driving that car there ?
    Thanks & now on with the vid. 3 Mins. in so far.

    • @freemansgarage
      @freemansgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree but right now I'm running out of time so I'm taking my chances.
      I'm moving 400-500 miles away. I won't be driving the car there because I'm moving everything by myself which means I'm the only driver. I'll be moving the cars on a big trailer.
      Thank you for watching the videos.
