Ford To The Rescue! Abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler
WATCH NEXT: th-cam.com/video/tA5jP3p3ieg/w-d-xo.html
Previously we pulled the 196 cubic inch straight six engine out of the abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler Classic Deluxe project car. After the engine was pulled, we started to replace the seal on the front pump of the transmission. The seal was leaking transmission fluid. After we have a new seal installed & the engine installed back in the car, we can start the engine & see if the transmission leaks or not. At one point I try using a Ford truck part to help install the new transmission seal.

That would be good.
Got to get all the important stuff working right or it won't be fun when you go for your first drive . Keep up the hard work , you'll get there sooner or later .
Good point. I'm working on it.
International Harvester also made ww2 rifles
That's neat. I'll be digging into that. Thanks for taking the time to share that.
take the Torque converter off the engine before you put the engine back in,, it MUST line up with the Tabs in the front pump,, if you try to jam it back,, its a Gurantee you will Damage the unit,, dont ask How I know...done many of these..
I got it in properly. More videos are in the pipe. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a helpful comment.
Greetings, thinking of restoring 1956 4x4 , where can I go for parts?
Don't worry about putting a Ford part into an AMC. The inner and outer front wheel bearings for my 65 V8 Mustang are the same as the inner and outer front wheel bearings for a 65-69 Chevrolet Corvair.
That's funny. They've could have done anything in those factories! 65 V8 Mustang...nice.

You mentioned Ronnie Milsap and I'd never heard the name, so I went and listened to Smoky Mountain Rain. Then I had Grok, the Twitter Ai bot, tell me all about his life and career. That was a fun rabbit hole. Thanks for sharing cultural references!
That's awesome. Nothing like a good rabbit hole! I appreciate you watching the videos.
You must not be sleeping, thats it! What a sacrifice for your viewers, how amazing is that! Love seeing another video on this old girl, can't wait to see it finished...and btw friend, get some sleep! We'll wait for you! 😂
I'm sleeping quickly. I appreciate the kind words.
NO,NO, don't put any links for any tools or anything else, you haven't got the time. You have to get moving in to your new house and garage. STOP READING THIS COMMENT. YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME. take care man.
AHHH!!!
Up til 3 am. Insistent cats clawing doors dragged me outta bed to feed them at 830 even though I really wanted to stay in the rack. Slurping licking growling sounds accompanied my hazy preparation of the coffee pot. With a flick of the switch, I took comfort in the nearness of my liquid rescue and scrolled to you tube. There before my sleepy eyes was Freeman! Glad to see you made it and strangely did not one bit of yelling as you palpated your way through the strange architecture of Kenosha's finest 1950's engineering minds. At now More than a year into our relationship, your first hint was the mention of the 5 am start time, and the second was your "audio" problem which I am guessing was really sleep deprivation. If those hints were not enough, the rapidly disappearing time left in the video clearly told me this was not to be the first ride since 1975. So like the cats who are now fatty curled in repose, we have been fed for a while. Before our next feeding I wish for you and your family that you get lots of sleep and eat good food to stave off an illness you can't afford in a stressful time of moving. In the meantime, we can sip coffee and can imagine tge fun of eventually watching you take your victory lap.

I do remember in an earlier video when you were working on the 56 brakes that the backing plate was damaged, I should have packaged one up and sent it to you. But I see you got this. Good to see you back and hope is going well...
Nice video, there's something about fixing things and making them run again that just lifts my spirits
Thanks. I know what you mean.
43:03 your rotation right here clearly shows your gap issue is related to the hub and drum. Review the video to see. Possible causes are hub face not square to centerline of the spindle, hub face irregular, cocked inner bearing race, irregular bearings, bent spindle. Swap hub and drm assemblies from side to side on the car to see if problem moves with the assembly: if not then issue is spindle.
looks like the drum you were straitening on the press was in need of turning or replacing the grooves were pretty deep. John
Yeah they're about done. I have to test them out first.
Hey Richard, nice to see you back. You and your daughter are in my prayers daily. Just a thought, you could test the brake drums with out the wheels by putting the lugnuts on backwards. Good luck with your move.
That's a good idea. I appreciate the prayers & the kind words.
Richard greetings from up north - what a surprise to see you today, welcome back . Hope the move went well
Debacle on the move. It's a waiting game right now.
It was great to see you post another video! With your move happening, I wasn't expecting it, moving truly sucks, so thanks for getting us an update on the 56, love everything you do, its like I'm watching myself in the garage, except you know what you're doing 😅, take care bud, God bless and keep on being YOU! We love you man!
I appreciate every word. Thank you. There are more videos coming.
Hello freeman love that you take the time and care to make it right remember any body can do it with tools thank you ken
I try. I appreciate you watching as always.
I’m old school red neck lol cutting torch would be talking to backing plate until it listened cutting off little
Nice work. I like how you have the rear assembly detailed. Love seeing the red oxide jackpot. Pontiac also used that color on the 9.3" rears from 57-64. Ever think about installing self adjusters on the rear brakes? I used to think they would cause excessive brake wear and now after all these years, they hang up more after a few years with no maintenance. I have never experienced one over adjusting and making the friction material drag on the drum. If interested, I believe you can just use later year Chevy hardware. It would be an extra expense though. When replacing a master cylinder, check the size of the piston and if you get a dual cylinder of the same size, it will perform as good as the original.
Y not remover finders when you worked on front brakes 😂
That's a great question.
Check the clearance between the rim and top ball joint, some rims will start digging into it, I had to use a flat top ball joint because of it.
Good call. I will check that.
Damn near spit my coffee out when you said " This is why people throw everything away when starting a project car " LMAO, SO TRUE. But that also takes MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.
Back then is when they actually made backing plates worth a damn, now they rust away in under 10 years in the salt belt. I would get the grinder out & grind it till it cleared the drum. Did you ever watch DD Speed Shop ? He does a hell of alot of work on these cars & gets shit done for basically a 1 man guy. He doesn't piss around just goes for it, some people say he's a hack but he gets it done, that's the bottom line. As far as Freeman going on & on & on he's not been in this world that long & will eventually find his groove on how other popular channels do it. He's a single father from what I gather, that in itself say's something about the man. I don't have a Ytube channel & have no idea how to do it if I even wanted to. So I can't criticize anybody that does. I can suggest some tips about it because of watching other well known channels or by experience fixing cars but that's about it. Thanks Freeman, I enjoy your channel it takes my mind off my personal problems in life for awhile. I hope everything works out for you & your daughter. Good luck on your move to another state, I can't imagine doing that but some people really have no choice, I know all to well about that. Henry from N.E. PA.
Love your channel! You make me feel better about the trials and tribulations I go through, I am not alone. Hahahaha
That's awesome! I appreciate you hangin' out.
I never met a stew that wasn't forgettable, so, go ahead and forget him. Part of the Charm of your channel is you put yourself out there warts and all: little in the way of stylized attempts to hide reality which highlights your positive traits and makes great video. The challenges you face in moving a fleet and in parenting as you do this work are immense and everyone here with the possible exception of one person who is too busy stewing to see that, are behind you. Keep on keeping on!
I"M 20 minutes into the video. Sorry I cannot continue to watch. you just go on and on and on to much about nothing. Just fix the axle already so the drum will fit. Sorry but I can not continue watching.
I get what your saying Stew, can you make a vid. on how you would do it ? He will learn eventually on how to edit his content & not dwell on things so long. Ya just grind the damn thing already & be done with it, I get it but I also don't have a Ytube channel so ? or tried restoring an old car. Don't be Sorry Stew but it was nice of you to say that though, he will find his way eventually, then maybe you'll be back ? For me I'll stick around & watch him grow his channel like his other 5,000 plus subscribers. You might like DD Speed Shop he might be a better suit for you ?
I agree with you. It comes down to choices in production. I can show you what's really happening, or I can make a month of wrenching appear to have taken me 20 minutes. Some folks come for the car, some come for the personality, some come for both. I'm working my way into a better balance. Comments such as yours are valuable & can help guide the ship from time to time. I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
It's such a funny thing because the faster I get things done the faster I run out of money. I am working on a tri five Chevy after all.
Gotta wear a mask while grinding rust. Good job.
Agreed. Thank you. I appreciate you watching.
