I was going to pass on this episode, as the 2CV doesn't really interest me. I am really glad I decided to watch. It was ... as usual... a bigger story than you think.

Same here. I have an appreciation for the 2CV and what it did in its time, but they've never appealed. I'm here cos it's Jonnyvision & his enthusiasm! (Although the 2CV and Renault 4 are particularly good at herding sheep, in a dry field!)
If it does get too much for you, though, Jonny, I can assist in the disposal of the carcass...! 😉

My first girlfriends family had 2 or 3 of these inckuding a dolly and a charleston. I was so taken with their character, I bought one myself.
It was my first car, a 1987 in gleaming Ferrari red. It was spotless. I used to roll the roof back, stick the surfboards in the passenger seat while a mate sat in the back and would drive it 60 odd miles to North Devon coast and back.
      Cost me £900 in 1993 and I sold it in 1995 for a £1000.
It didn't go wrong in 2 years.
      Great memories 👌
Can't wait for the next episode!

Loved this Jonny, I have a 1959 425cc and is restored. I just entered a local classic car show and probably only 10% of the people get it. Lots of snide comments like where is the engine and death trap but the highlight for me was an old couple probably in their 80s. The husband was describing my car to his wife and he asked if she could touch it. It turns out she was blind and they must of owned one back in the day. She felt her away around my car with a huge grin and I let her sit in and enjoy the deck chair seats. Lovely moment for both of us, clearly a small percentage still love the 2CV. ❤

I can't believe anybody keen on classic cars would make snide remarks about a 2CV. They are amazing cars that were way ahead of their time, were beautifully designed and 100 times more reliable than anything from the UK. The fact they were built for so many years is testament to how great a design they are.

Really pleased to see you joining 2CV ownership.I bought my first one aged 61. Its the most fun you can have at legal speeds and you will always drive it smiling. With only 29bhp @6,750rpm you need to be on it all the time to get the best out of it. You will already appreciate just how well designed and well engineered they are. That rusty skip will live again, Darrens confidence and the boys at the 2CV shop will help you sort it out I am sure.

I've been watching your channel for many years, Jonny, so pleased to see you've discovered the charm of the 2CV. As a proud 2CV owner since the 1990s, I've been looking forward to this series dropping on the Tube.. Very pleased to know you're keeping the patination as much as possible. Darren is right to say it'll be a very reliable car. I've had my current 2CV, a 1988 car, since 2002. It was sitting on just over 70,100 miles when bought. I've taken it round the clock twice over the last 22 years. It's now sitting on a few miles short of 276,000 miles. The barrels and pistons were replaced at 250,000.

Well done Johnny, its the most fun going around corners at speed youll ever have driving a car, it just wont tip over going forwards, just remember dont do it in reverse oir it will tip over, I restored one about ten years ago Now paid to have the floors replaced which was expensive, put in the electronic ignition and repainted the wings coach painting them with red hammerite paint in my living room in January with the heating on, the red hammerite smooth matched the red paint beautifuly.
I added lots of upgrade parts and it passed its MOT first attempt, I found the inboard front brakes to be a bit of pain to adjust and the rear drums bound a little for a while until they settled in.
All in all a lot of fun even for a six ft 6inch tall driver with my eyeline level with the top frame of the windscreen.
I think the seat rubbers were the most expensive of everything purchased there are a 100 in the back seat and they are a pound each for the good ones. Enjoy.

@@TheLateBrakeShow I've fitted a 'solid state' coil to my 2CV, which is also fitted with a Dutch electronic ignition called 123ignition, and apart from a yellow rubber seal rather than a black rubber seal, is identical to the original 2CV coil fitted by Citroen. The original 2CV coil is filled with oil that acts as a coolant. The oil dries out over time and the coil overheats and fails.

The aluminium grille with the big chevrons, is the best 2CV grille.
I transferred mine between cars, and still have it as a workshop decoration.
Swop it's feeble little headlamps for, 7 in H4 Cibies (as on a Lotus 7 clone) and drive just as fast at night.

Jonny, brilliant job on taking on this as a project, I totally feel your sentiment for its appearance and respect your vision for simple classic motoring. I have recently sort of entered the 2CV world, I am now the custodian of my fathers 2017 Pembleton which has a 602cc 2CV engine on twin Del’Orto carbs, with finned heads and no cooling fan - it’s great fun, as you know, a bit like riding a classic motorcycle, while being seated 4 inches of the tarmac !

With this car in your collection, you could have your own:
    "FOQ/ME"
    (FESTIVAL OF QUAINT/MILDLY EXCEPTIONAL...
I doubt the abbreviation for the event will present problems.)
Can't wait to see the patina really come out in the bidywork. Something suggests you know what you're on about when suggesting a wax to seal it in.

    Greetings from the Netherlands
PS: Growing up in the Somme in the 80's, the neighbouring farmer had one old 2cv in a field.
You could just about recognise it used to be a 2cv, but it was honestly more rust than car.
I could still sit 'in' it (roof gone) and pretend to drive it.
    Vroom vroom..
    Great times.
