I'm so glad the algorithm just randomly decided to resurrect this gem. I used to vibe like this back in the day with the climbing community. I live a "poser" life now according to old school Charley and I'm happy, but wow do I miss those days.
Everybody has some life story like this now where it's like yeah I used to be all wild those were the days. I think 99% of such origin stories are total BS but it helps people to conform to the machine to put false narratives in their history.

Sounds like as a construction worker he went the “poser” route. I grew up with a dude like this. They actually need money, lots of it. They go around with cute catch phrases begging and getting one way gifts from friends until the joke is over. Then they move and work construction. When he breaks a bone he really becomes a “poser”. Never ends well. Sad cause he seems talented.

Yea lived three years there (13-16) it was changing quick while I was there and I was already late to the party haha but some unforgettable times ill look back on till im gone
Lived in whis like a bum for 2 summers in 17-18 for mtb riding. Learned so many tricks to skate by on the 1500 bucks I brought with me. best times ever. Long live the big green house and Patrik Martin. Nothin beat a long day of riding and heading to crystal lounge for a few pints or going for a swim at lost lake. I cherish those days and the people I met along the journey.
I used to eat table scraps to get by and skip lift lines everywhere I went just so I could board everyday and those were some of the best days of my life
@srithongkun actually, this was filmed years before he made it in the pros. before made it skiing professionally, he lived in his truck for four years, and when he crashed his truck in a ditch, he moved into the tent in this movie. he really was a SKI BUM and was getting no "money and shit".
I hate people like you. Who the fuck cares? It's all painfully southern BC. Everyone out there thinks they're tough. I hear a bunch of talk. Never seen one true story though. Buncha pansies.
Same. I ended up in WP CO. It's a major reason I pursued being a ski bum. Alterra and the mega ski corps are killing the lifestyle and the love. Saw a dumb Facebook reel about washing ski gear and it made me think of "wash socks? Theses are ski socks bro!"
Wow. I worked the lifts for a season at Whistler Blackcomb in 1990/91. What surprises most is how the Wizard Lift is still the same in 2009 as it was back then!! 😅
This is legendary! Every single clip is gold. The free skate wax? I feel like half of this wasn’t made up. I hope Charley and all you homies are thriving. Maybe he shacked up with a snowbunny and made some ski demons. The person who filmed and edited this might be a film producer. Either way y’all are kooks for this and I’m so glad this popped up. I knew in the title, and that it’s 14 years old, it’s gonna be awesome
Reminds me of my ski bum days and the lengths we would go to get a free meal or movie or hot shower. Best times! The free stuff just tasted that much sweeter. Lots of random memories. One time we ran out of money at the bar. Found $50 on the sidewalk walking home and we turned around and went straight back in for a beer and some real food. Breaking into the skifield cafe off season after a freak storm for a drink and fresh powder all day. The whole mountain to ourselves. Not another soul in sight. Like an alternative universe that day.
All old youtube that is preserved will be golden. It was a time when people uploaded because they wanted to share their life and ideas. Never incentivized by advertisements. Purely from the human soul.
We had a guy like this in Canmore, Alberta living near the "rock pile" next to the bow valley river except he was like 40 but he was the coolest dude ever. He'd hitch hike to Banff or Lake Louise, spend a week then come back to work a few shifts at one of the restaurants to get enough money to do it again a week or two later lol. He'd pay one admission fee for the hill then hide after closing time on t he mountain and just camp out. I miss that time in my life, 2010-2014 in my late teens-early twenties. I'll probably head back out there at some point permanently. This is how alot of people live out there man. People from the east just don't get it. It's super lax in these smaller mountain towns.
