I am an OAP worried about the leccie bill. I served in the Forces and Police. My wife was a Nurse and we both believe in vocational service. We believe in freedom of speech and simple British fair play. We now are both totally fed up with the way this country is heading and the totally lousy standard of governance we have suffered for so long now.

I speak here as an outraged 81 year old pensioner and I have said it all along, the government has absolutely no idea what it's like to be an ordinary person in today's world. NO IDEA! So ok they should put their minds to finding out and showing a genuine interest in the people they are supposed to be SERVING!!!
It's always been understood that people in influence and power should not accept gifts because, as in the case of this Ali, he can then request a favour (like the pass to No 10). The person receiving the gift ends up beholden to the person who gave the gift in the first place.

Everyone says that these gifts and donations are allowed in the rules. How about this novel idea. NOTHING IS ALLOWED IN THE RULES CONCERNING GIFTS ETC. NO CASH, CLOTHES , JEWELLERY, CARS IR ANYTHING ELSE. NO DONATIONS get rid of it all. These gifts could be seen as a bribe. Get rid of it all. I'm wondering if politicians should be made to wear body cams like the police. Yhere would be no chance of bribery. Cameras in Downing Street as well as Parliament. Corruption will continue otherwise.
I have volunteered to serve on a variety of ministerial-level advisory committees. While every politician that I worked with seemed quite pleasant at a personal level, they all seemed to revile the public and inevitably saw the answer to every problem as re-educating the public. The Ministers were particularly worrisome because I never met one who possessed anything more than a superficial understanding of their portfolios. However, the most worrisome thing that I learned was that the upper-level bureaucrats had even more contempt for the voters than the politicians. They were also the ideological police in all of the meetings. The ostentatious wealth of the top-bureaucrats was also unnerving: they dressed like royalty and strutted around like peacocks at the height of breeding season.
Dame Clair is so right, sometimes it more important to concentrate on the bigger issues, the biggest corruptions, otherwise excellent news stations like this become too similar to mainstream which often goes stale and boring.
Sorry that you don’t like to hear about Starmer bumming £110,000 worth of gear. 10 years pension for the Old Age.
