- SSBM video showing things very difficult or impossible to do manually. AR was used to slow the game and editing was used to speed the footage up.

OMG!!! ITS TAS BEFORE THE DOLPHIN EMULATOR!!!! Nice video! :)
Good Ol' Action Replay, ahaha
How
This is still one of the best combo / situation videos, even more than a decade later. The pacing, the music syncing, and the variety of ideas without repeating too much are great.
I used to feel the first vid was more fun to watch. A couple years down the line, the first vid isn't all that impressive from a technical standpoint while this one holds up better as a TAS
2:19 and so wobbling was born
This video was so far ahead of its time
Man I feel old I remember when this first came out
Same! It was truly a different time for sure.
This is actually my first time watching this video since I was around 9 years old. I turn 26 on Saturday.
Best self-made credits I've ever seen to date. Brilliant on your part, SDM. (Or whoever's it was to do the walking animations - things like that in credits always make them better.)
I saw this in my recommended videos, said 11 years ago... I remember watching this when it first came out... Now I feel old.
Amazing work, SDM and co. Simply amazing.
0:42 I recall Zhu actually DD'd that fast.
Wait, you mean that *wasn't* Zhu?
What's DD?
***** Dash dance.
Memories of this channel!
2023 and still a banger video!
Imagine someone who has never played any Smash game in their life or even heard of Smash. Then they see this video and say 'This looks so cool! I bet I can do it!' then they play Melee and learn to do this in no time.
Amazing Samus work. Seven back to back needles in the air with Sheik, wow. And the turnip juggling.
Dude, Superdoodleman is renowned across youtube for his super smash bros skills with AR. Don't dis, he's a legend.
Amazing Samus and Fox work! Thanks for posting!
Wow... greatest AR video right here.
This is awesome. The Samus stuff is crazy. SDM is the best AR person ever :]
I believe it's a technique called "Wobbling." It's done with the Ice Climbers. Unfortunately I don't know how to perform it, so look for a video about it.
Whoa...Sandbag's gonna go flying for a LONG, long time!
Extremely awesome vid!!
He is performing Dr. Mario's Up+B cancel consistently. By doing some input in the first few frames of Doc's Up+B, you can prevent him from going into the air. You can find the specifics on Smashboards.
Well, I'll wait. His perfect control videos are awesome.
That bit was crazily hot. The whole video is too cool to be true.
AWESOME! Loved the DI trix with the Pokémon-thing.
@PKMN416 Lol, check the description. The link to the thread where everything is explained including music is there. But I believe it's Beamsabre Beat.
always nice to see
astonishing. this is amazing
how does Samus super wave dash in multiple directions at once?
I'm pretty sure, once TAS capacity is added to an GC emulator sometime in the future and improved, all the editing work would be non-existant and there would be a lot more TASes. It's not in the near future though.
mugg1991 thats become true 9 yrs later :D
Awesome vid SDM
To everyone wondering: All this stuff was capable because he used Action Replay to slow the game down so that everything was occuring one frame at a time, then sped vid up to create this (smashbro's wiki confirms this using first vid), it is physically impossible for a persons hands to move fast enough to do nearly, if not every, move done in this video.
...I would LOVE to see how the game would change if people actually COULD do this though
It's amazing how all this actually can be done in Melee...
Very nice video. And I like the MegaMan music playing. Well done.
i read the description lol, i thought you were a god at this before that XD
This looks like so much fun
I'm lost for words.. I wish I could play like this. The speed ups with Samus by using those bombs was cool.
This is freaking insane! nice vid 5/5
That's because (as I'm sure you know) SuperDoodleMan slowed down the speed, then sped it back up. Theoretically if you slow down the game speed to 1/4, your hand speed (in-game) is x4 faster. When we do stationary WSs in real-time, it's slow because we can't get our thumbs back to the B button for the shine after we hit X/Y button for the SH. We can shine the instant the WD starts, but it's impossible to shine the frame after the WS animation begins.
So fun to watch!
Nice work Man
a super wave dash is a technical engine glitch in ssbm you do it by
using samus only and do a bomb drop
when you touch down from it tap LEFT then RIGHT on the joystick withing 19 miliseconds
I have used AR and calculated what it takes without it. It will rocket you across the screen.
You can also go right left
going left right makes you go right
and vise versa
very much so, It's a very difficult technique, so you don't see it very often in tournaments, but in casual games sometimes I freak out my friends with it.
No, you're right. This "Rapid Shine" you term is possible. In fact, it's the only way you can waveshine with Fox in SSB (for N64). And yes, hilariously enough, my friend was able to do it at normal speed in SSB.
@darkgranddragon its called "beamsabre beat" by darkesword...you can find it on OCRemix
Samus is so beautiful *teary eyed*
love the song at the end.
Nothing is impossible, just improbable without perfect reflexs and speed.
I loved the Smash-DI stuff :D
Most of this stuff is totally impractical without the Action Replay, it require by-frame (to 1/60th of a second) precision in many cases; the theory however is explained in the link that's in the video description.
luv the megaman music in the background
You can do this stuff without using an AR, but you obviously need VERY quick hands. SDM used AR for slowing down the frames to make it easier to do these stunts.
the thing where samus jumped from one side of The Temple to another was awesome!
A)Tripping had nothing to do with anything in his comments.
B)Complaining about it non-stop doesn't make it go away.
Very cool. I think you should put together a match, slowed down, recorded, and sped up, like this, with all the amazing techniques. So it'd be like this, but it would look like an actual match. It'd be epic.
best vid on youtube
gangreneriddencorpse: What I meant by "completely sweet with insane mindgames" is that right now, pro matches are somewhat limited in that some of the pros are beating other pros not because of mindgames but because they have better technical skill than their opponents. If the need for technical skill is eliminated, the game changes so that it relies more on mindgames and knowledge of certain things that can be done rather than the technical skills themselves.
@ZxWAKAxZ Brawl has several key components that make it fun, just as Melee has several unique components that make it fun. While it is true that Melee is more playable in terms of the competitive scene, that doesn't automatically mean that Brawl sucks overall; it is merely inferior in the competitive sense, in the eyes of those who grew up playing Melee competitively (myself included).
holy crap... nice work
It's not fox's angle and timing that keeps luigi in the combo. luigi is doing something called "smashed directional influence" with the help of Action Replay in order to stay in the combo. Fox is just sitting there shining really fast (which is still pretty hard to do without Action Replay)
Awesome vid.
Which is why you always read the freaking description.
As usual, I really like your work, SDM, but this may have well been an AR video of SWDing. The fox shine laser combo was awesome, all the DI stuff was great, but just too much SWD. Must've run out of ideas :-/. I still liked it a lot though, and hope to see another AR vid in the future :)
Niiice! X3
The Samus-dashing stuff looks fun. :3
Nice choice of music... both of the vids have songs that I downloaded and put on my MP3 player.. XD
Also for those who want to know wavedash. Samus is doing super wavedash which is done differently.
Awesome music! Sounds like someone getting ownd in one super long combo
10 years ago, I used to play this video daily before sleep hahaha
Its not just super wave dashes, its also daughter (1/4 a super) and rocket dashes (4 daughter + 1 super), the rocket dash can only be done with action replay i believe, the song is on ocremix, its a megaman 2 song remix
Question: Is the Samus SWD possible without using AR?
I have the answer for you, 11 years later. Yes it is possible. A fair number of the stuff in this video I have seen human beings accomplish. Not everything though.
SWEET ENDING!
i love the taunt
love the MMX song ^^ and love the vid
nobody will NEVER get this pro because nobody is perfect
i wasnt referring to waveshining, i myself can pull off 3 waveshines in a row, but not all the time.. i was talking about the rapid shine.
you just gotta love samus SWD
I love this video, great work, whats the song from? it some of it sounded like a remix of Megaman X
Im pretty sure i am now to 500th comment. Woot woot. But really, this video owns so much. Shows what smash would be like if we all had insane reflexs and finger movements.
Pretty insane, haha
Great video, 5/5 :)
star jacket fun...wasnt much but it brought a tear to my eye^_^
Even without tripping, nothing in Brawl is really hard to do. Their is very little to Perfect Control that you can't already do without hacks.
@ieatatsonic It's in the description.
thats some crazy shit right there superdoodleman your better with ars than masterlinkx and thats very good
p.s whats the code for and deos the ar work with wii
@2WIRE311 ITS... OVER 9000!!!
Amazingly awesome, if Amazingly was a word.
I would HATE to go up against someone with reactions that were THIS good...
Doc is preforming Up-B canceling. It is difficult to do because you have to have an extremely fast reaction.
what is this song? and btw SDM ur that best at making films! keep up the good work
This is sweet.
"AR(Armada) was used to slow the game and editing was used to speed the footage up" good to know :)
it was X3 intro stage(Zero's Theme)
the outro was MM2 ending
Yeah, Hradian is right; this came before the last tier war. Btw, did they ever finish that?
Anyway, how do you do the 6x + SWD? You know, the one where you SWD back and forth, or off platforms (perhaps it has a different name?)? I know it's practically impossible to do, but I just want to know what the motions would be.
During an aerial attack, press L/R right before you land.
Their's a video on further Advance Techniques on TH-cam. Look it up.
MMX remix as bgm. i like it. great video btw.
Of course it's AR. He even says it in the description and the credits ;)
@zevex747 Action Replay is required to play on that map.
no, the main theme is Zero's Theme from X2
supreme samus super wave jesus ownage dash!
awesome video
Its the "Race to the finish!" stage
amazing
just too good
when you lay bomb, when you are in the ball mode, lean back and press forward and tilt the way you want to go
1:35 ahahah the hidden test level. Only just hearing about this from one of The GT's vids on dis game
Wow. You must be god at this game.
That's what i thought at first when i was trying to figure out the rapid shine. i thought it was wavedash in place after a shine, but something was bothering me about it, it was still too slow compared to this video. i actually figured it out on accident with falco. then i tried it with fox on 1/4 speed on training mode, it actually turns out that it's a shine, jump and instant shine before leaving the ground over and over again
