As a Native American, non natives don't know what life is like on the Reservations. It is hard! I loved this video! I loved everything about it. From him being on crack and getting in trouble to robbing a video renting store to his girlfriend overdosing and dying, he turned it all around and made it right by going to the Creator for helping his change his life around! Being one with the Creator and the Spirit inside him. Seeing him in the end, he was okay, because he was one with his religion. Loved the Blackfeet exposure. NATIVE AMERICANS ARE STILL HERE!! Life is hard but we get by the best way we can!
Navajo Indian signing in, and I have to give most massive respect to British artists Chase and Status for making this tune and this video. It's a big tune. I am fortunate in that my family has been so far untouched by the scourge that is meth crossing the border, yet substances have had a role in my family and a role in me. I am fortunate in that, every day, I can join with others who are recovering from the disease of alcoholism and celebrate the fact I haven't drank that day. As a graduate student of economics, I can accurately tell you that the long-term solution to the heroin epidemic plaguing our country right now is not imprisonment but rehabilitation. To keep a potentially overall good person good you offer them a human hand, a hand of help and empathy, not a hand of punishment and scourge. Okay, for everyone who has said "What does this video have anything to do with the song?" Well coming from someone who lives on this reservation (Blackfeet Rez in Browning, MT which is where this video is filmed) it's the sad truth. This reservation is crumbling before our eyes. And as shown in the video of a couple of young people smoking meth in an abandoned house, that is considered "the usual". Which it shouldn't be. No one wants to see their loved ones or friends have their lives taken over by drugs. There are a lot more drugs here than meth. But when the young man wakes up to find his girl dead beside him, that is when he feels more ALIVE than ever. He knows he has to change for the better. Turning his life around and looking for guidance. And he finally finds what his looking for, which is a way out of that kind of lifestyle. People can learn ALOT from this video, especially people who knows what it's like to be physically dependent on such a cruel and ugly substance. To go from living on the streets, stealing from random houses to get their fix, and then all of a sudden realizing that they have more to life than that. There is a strong message in this video, a message in which we should live by! From my own personal experiences with this reservation, I believe the message is simply telling us to LIVE! To push aside all the negative and live your life to the fullest. No matter what people push upon you, you still have the ability to live your life the way it should be.
Dear Terryn, thank you very much foe explaining this, i was deeply touched and disturbed by this video, such a an exotic views, people and language. I feel that this is really a very message. And how original americans are beautiful, especially a lady in a supermarket in the video where she is standing on a gunpoint while robbery attempt. I wish i could live in such a beautiful place, with such simple and nice people. Thank you very much dear Terryn for telling us all that . Bless you and your parents.
Bones to bones, they can bring their guns I'm at war with the world There is no where to run no Chest to chest, You can run if you want I've come too far, oh I'm not gunna lose I feel so alive. those lyrics along watching the transition of the fellow Native making peace and fighting his demons brought chills to my back. Very powerful when the choir singing pops in. WOW.
I really resonated with those lyrics too. "I'm at war with the world, there is nowhere to run" Is how a lot of us Indigenous people feel. We feel isolated, stuck in a western society or stuck on reserves that don't have adequate support & resources in place. I feel isolation is something many indigenous folks face from the conversations I've had. I do a lot of public speaking on two spirit & indigenous culture & the conversations that arise after are powerful. I do my very best to walk this red path, to not give up on myself & my culture. I definitely cried a lot during this video lol it all hit me hard.
I really think that most of these people are missing the whole point of the video and song... Those of you bashing and saying that it's disrespecting and degrading our people, you're wrong. It's putting us out there. People are seeing us! Now they know. It's opening eyes to everyone! Why must you be so negative and close minded. I'm a young Native American, living on the Rez, wishing that this would open the eyes of your young people. Do you think it will? Our people need to be a little more open minded and see that this is a positive video, there is nothing wrong with it at all.
I remember seeing this video for the first time 5 years ago and finding it so striking and well done, and crying over it as a high schooler only to rediscover it today and cry over it again, this time as an adult, realizing just what it represents and how little many of us know about the struggles faced on these reserves. This video is more than words can describe and I will never forget it.
As a Native, this hit hard at home. I was in tears. Very beautiful music video, thank you so much for bringing the things that are happening to our people these days to light. We were once a strong people, but with things such as drugs, and alcohol. It's killing our already dying culture. Again, beautiful and deep music video. I also love you guys incorporated some Native traditions!
YOU AS A NATIVE WOMAN SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN TO PRAISE SUCH A SICKENING DESECRATION OF OUR CULTURE. YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A SELLOUT TO YOUR CULTURE. SHAME ON YOU FOR PRAISING THE EVIL WORKS OF SUCH NONSENSICAL MEN.
Elo Janis quit ruining this video for people they should block you and your comments lmao....it really is a great video! I love it...kudos to all of the people who put hard work into it!! Great Job! My friends cannot believe thats how rez life can be...
Elo Janis Elo Janis should keep their mouth shut over the topic presented in this music video. It was given with permission from the Blackfeet, both Tribal Council and Elders. As a Niitsitapiiksi Siksikakoan I also stand by the decisions of my brethren south of the border.
Excuse me? This is not a desecration of our culture. Are you ignorant? How are we to get help and not be minorities of the U.S, once our land, if we don't allow the help and recognition of this sort of thing? This is real stuff happening to our people! Sad and real stuff. And for you to think I'm a sellout for THANKING, not praising, to my culture is offensive.
I would never have thought this UK group would have ended up on the Rez. But this video is very powerful in its meaning, and wish the younger generations would keep practicing traditions our tribes handed down. Keeping those stories alive and preserving your language is important in who we are as a Native people. Prosperity.
Very powerful. He was doing the wrong thing, sought his elders and spiritual leaders and he made a change. Unfortunately, a bad choice he made caught up with him but the important thing is he made peace with himself. Repentance.
it was great to have been apart of this project with my wife and our krazy dog society guiding the authenticity thank you sterling for bringing this opportunity to our country love peace and frybread grease
Everytime I watch this video I cry. Its so moving, the parts when they show our ceremonies does not offend me. We are beautiful people with beautiful ceremonies. Its a new day and age, I believe that we were not meant to hide our ceremonies we only picked that up because there was a time our way of life was outlawed and our ceremonies not to be practiced. We don't have to hide anymore.
This video is so awesome. Its very rare to see Native Americans in a music video and these issues are real for us. These things are really happening on our reservations. Thank you so much Chase & Status for this beautiful song and for the touching video to go with it. I cried from the start. I feel so alive Hoka Hey!!!
This is one of the best uses of short film I've seen in a long time. The dignity and the sadness is palpable. And the song and singer are perfect. Most people in America don't know what is going on many reservations. Suicide is twice that of the national average. And most of the suicides are teenagers. I hope this video causes some conversation and curiosity. The song of Passing Over into the Spirit World at the end with the one drum is chilling. Awesome work by everybody!
Coming from a person that loves music and music videos and to not have liked and loved a music video in a very long time, this music video is very heartfelt. I am from Browning, lived here all my life, I moved away a few times but came back home because home is always home. I am a Blackfeet full blood and to have this video be seen by the world is awesome because this is my community and yes there are people out here in my town doing this but who can say their town is perfect? Some Natives do not like it because of the ceremonies but it's in cinema already, there is a movie called the return of a man called horse, into the west shows a lot more than this. That movie was done with the help of native elders and so was this video, with the blessings of a society at that. So Mr. Josh Cole, Thank You for shooting the video on the Blackfeet Rez. A Rez that is one of many in Indian country. Thank you to the cast and crew, elders for showing the Blackfeet Nation to the eyes of thousands maybe millions so hit that share and like button for all Native Americans!!!
In 2020 now, the world has gone crazy. We’ve had a decade’s worth of drama in the past 6 months. Needed to hear this song again more than I thought. I’m crying now. Sending love and light to whoever sees this, may you have a beautiful life❤️

I'm from the rez.. Its a spiritual battle we are fighting on a daily base. Its up to you if you live on the rez what life you want to live the good red road or lost a path of destruction. Me I was in to drugs and alcoholism. But I want to live.. I want to live for my kids and my family. Do right and help my people. Creator has blessings you just need to find it in your heart to listing to what is right. This video has opened my eyes too. Its good. We need more video like this.. Aho
This music video should have been nominated somewhere; for something. What's sad is that music videos that have great meaning get left behind. I bawl at this and everyone else should.
@@dabblesmith5755 You were right. That was dumb of me to say before, I deleted the comment. This whole racial thing was stupid, and a complete red herring to distract everyone from how we were so close to catching this whole covid-bs thing being a planned event. Fahk I had no idea the rest of America wasn't paying attention at all, if they were they wouldn't have fallen for such a ridiculously obvious distraction. It was so fahking obvious. And one day after Trump slammed the censorship for their unamerican obvious agenda.
This video gave me a lump in my throat and It makes me feel like crying really bad now. My best friend died from an overdose, She died not knowing she is loved by all. How much her laugh made our hearts flutter and she always made my day. She was only 18, A month away from turning 19 and A week after my own birthday. I would like to endorse this video because it really makes me feel like This needs to be shared. I don't care about the sundance being shown because it sends a powerful message that we need to stand united and as one. We are all creator's children!
May the people who are going through struggles find the strength that they need to overcome and rise above anything. May they stay strong and find their victory for when they do, its not only theirs but also of the ones who have fallen with similar struggles and are no longer here. Everyone is powerful.
Our people need something to feel pride in and relate to that give us a positive Idenity for everyone, mostly ourselves. These events are occouring on reservations across Canada, So many women go missing and so many men are addicted to things. We are struggling if someone doesnt take a chance and try something that meets the old school with the new school nothing will ever get done. An elder told me the kids arent paying attention to their cutlure and who they are as First Nations any more. Saying "The old way isnt working we need to find a new way". I stand by any decision or movement that encourages Native People to better their lives. This video probably touched alot of people.
Such a fantastic song, the video made in a way that takes you there , to the reservation of original americans and i feel like i just was there with them. I am near to cry from overwhelming feelings.
cant believe ive been looking for this song for 5 years. yes 5 years. and stumbled upon it today by a complete coincidence. absolutely loved this video and song back in hs. Maybe things are looking up :)
I seen this video in 2014. I was using meth for 10 years then. I was lost. Video touched me then and now. I am now Clean. Since May 22nd, 2017. I too am Native American (Navajo). I survived and am Alive ❤
This is a reserve not far from mine. I pass through here every now and then. This video really shows what its like being a First nations person living on reserve. It shows the struggles we face, and despite the stereotypes and the racism we must face everyday, we still manage to hold on to the traditions and values that our ancestors thousands of years ago believed in. Despite all that we've gone through in the past centuries we still manage to strive.
This video does more then show the struggle from then till now. As a Navajo I cherish this music video how we try find our place in time where there's no peace.
Drum & bass is my favourite music, and a great modern music to expose human and musical themes through. As an American Indian I think this to be a beautiful video and a beautiful way to tell a story. As far as showing the Sun Dance goes, unfortunately the cat is out of the bag and it's been shown on video before, but people who watch this video are getting a positive spiritual message out of it instead of a merely commercial one like the products of, say, a mister Dan Snyder... I think natives agree that the point of dance is to raise the spirit. Drum & bass fans certainly dance by that ethic. I know I do.
My buddy is an eagle scout and does some things with native Americans. He told me about the sun dance and the honor it is. And then I saw it here and was shocked. I'm not native American but it seems very much so like it isnt a passage to be taken lightly
I’m in 2024 and I will say this song has kept me sober for the past 10 years. Since the first time I watched it when I felt like giving up every time. I would rather die being true to myself than a drug overdose. I respect myself to much to not give in ever again. Again and again I thank the people that made this video cause it is sadly our peoples struggle to stay away from that world. Prayers and blessing to everyone having those hard times.
This song has helped me through so much shit.. 3 years ago my dad left and when I was 13 my mum best friend who was like a mother to me died. I still look up to her for help and guidance.. Loved and never forgotten R.I.P Elaine 😭..
Dear Chase and Status , I admire the time it took to work with the people to show the world the truths of what the people are faced with I have read the controversy and I am proud that you have shown the realities of life, I am an Anishnawbe kwe ( FIRST NATIONS WOMAN)from Ontario my nation is Ojibway , life for some is exactly what you have shown and there will always be critics where there is demonstration of ceremony , the teaching I have is, TO KEEP IT SHORT, cermonies, is the path that will heal people from the paths of violence and substance abuse and self destruction, anyone who can not see the true felt intent of why you have created this may not ever understand , but the people of the Anishnawbek nation some will feel honoured you have created this , Miigwetch, Thank You, Merci THERE IS HOPE, IF YOUR INTENTIONS ARE GOOD THAT ALL THAT MATTERS
At a low point of my life this video would bring me to tears everytime. Now im in a better place it doesn't have that effect on me anymore. I kind of miss that feeling its so strange.
Drew..thank you for you very interesting reply. I enjoyed reading the historical facts. People are people...good and bad in all cultures. Defending land and lifestyle is honourable. Identity is everything. ..without it there is nothing to fight for...
I have brain cancer. This has been my manifestation song. Yesterday I found out my tumour has shrunk significantly. I just listened to this song, this morning and it hit sooo differently
That shit hurt, pissed me off, gave me questions. That's what good art is supposed to do. Human to Human, thank you. Out there in Montana, AAAHOOOWAAAHH! THAT is how you MAKE them SEE! Much props
I have been using this video in my high school Ethnic Studies courses for the past 8 years, and it has probably saved many lives. I connect it to the Nahui Ollín that is taught by the XITO educators of Tucson, who had their Mexican American Studies Program banned for about 8 years and are now rebuilding it after years in court. I see the connection between our U.S. Indigenous sisters and brothers and my people to the South who are fleeing the disaster this country has created in Mexico and Central America for the purpose of spreading drugs across the Americas in an effort to keep us all under their control. I get chills each time I watch it, and I've seen it well over a thousand times. As an educator, I see the absolute power in this and other efforts to uplift our Indigeneity across the Americas. We must all stand strong and become united if we are to rise above the horrors of the past 500+ years and confront the next 7 generations.
I know that sundance is very sacred. My family used to run the sundance in my native community a couple generations ago. There is a lot of ignorance of the plight of Native people. I like the fact that there is a more modern interpretation of nativev people. Our communities need healing and recognition. I like seeing real native people as the actors. We need to embrace all people and to welcome them into the lives we live. To crush ignorance. To bring ourselves alive again. So I support chase and status coming into the community and shooting the music video. It represents the struggle and healing and beauty of First Nations people.
There is a way of bringing attention to the many ills suffered by those unfortunate enough to have to try and survive on the reservations, but this is not it. To me, this is nothing more than low grade exploitation. For a tribal leader to supposedly have given their stamp of approval shows why the reservations are in such miserable conditions they are in.
Many ways to do what? Exploit our culture and heritage? I think the weak and ineffective leaders we have in place now today are contributing to our demise that is obvious by them giving permission to shoot this poorly communicative video.
I don't see how it is "exploiting" our culture. I say we were exploited when We had all of our land taken through treaties. Or when we were given blankets full of smnallpox. Or given alcohol when we were trading and negotiating. That is exploiting. But creating a story and sharing a story I do not feel is exploitation. Esp when there is consent. No one was forced into the creation of the story. smh. Crabs in the bucket syndrome.
Not sure what your final sentence is referring to but I will address the remainder of your comment. First I feel it is highly exploitative to not have had the permission of ALL tribal leaders from tribes who perform the Sundance as you can see it's relevance and importance is different to each tribe. For one set of tribal elders or representatives to give permission and none other are given an opportunity to speak their minds might have been premature. I say this as I just was made aware of a statement that was released in 2002 by the present keeper of our sacred Buffalo Calf Pipe in which he named himself and each individual involved in the possession of all that is involved with this pipe as well as the location of said pipe bundle. What this person did is certainly NOT permitted in any situation whatsoever and it goes against all that is sacred within our tribe. This information has NEVER before been released to the general public and goes against all that is sacred to our tribe. So perhaps we are now living under a different set of circumstances and all of this private information is now supposed to be made public. When my Unci was alive (she was one of the last traditional Sioux women) things were the total opposite of what is happening today. To me and many other people, when you change things like this that are sacred and have significance to the existence and survival of our people, you place in motion a set of events that signal a time of great upheaval in the world. One might even say that this would be a signal of the end of the world. Perhaps I am living in a time when traditions truly were sacred and significant and were necessary for our survival. Now with the arrival of a new generation of Lakota people, these practices and ceremonies seem to be placed aside in favor of a more public spectacle instead of a highly spiritual ceremony. Even the release of Sundance songs was forbidden and no one would ever dare to go against these centuries old traditions and beliefs. To do so years ago was to bring certain and severe tragedy onto that persons life. Why these things would change so drastically within a course of 50 years is really not acceptable. I question the motives of the keeper of the pipe and wonder what is behind his actions. I know that my family is in line to be a part of pipe keepers so it would only seem to be within reason that if things were to have been changed so drastically that my family would have been notified or would even have been party to these changes. I don't know any more. In looking at other cultures, when things like this changed so drastically it meant a total breakdown and disappearance of that culture. In looking at how our people are behaving and what is important to them today, this is what seems to be happening to the Lakota culture. The time seems to have come where the white man has finally been successful at removing all that was sacred to us. Once they took control of our lands it was only a matter of time before the demise of our way of life. Look at what is happening to our younger people today. Our language is disappearing, our traditions are being torn apart and our spirituality is slowly being erased as well. In under a hundred years, there will be no more full blooded Lakotans. The land which was once ours will be sold to the highest bidder and our distinction according to the white man will no longer be around. In other words, assimilation into the white mans world will be complete and what was began years ago with the arrival of the blonde hair blue eyed people first arrived on the plains. When first advised of their arrival, a chief looked around at the then empty beautiful plains and said this is the beginning of the end. And that is where we are today.
This song came at a point i feel exactly same...:( most dont know im dealing with this all alone.. broke home and shit and drugs... all is left is a broken girl, that wants to be alive again.. this song and clip just is simular what my mind and heart are screaming
This video really helped pushed me to get up and reconnect and want to become sober. I didn’t want to be a stereotype. And this whole video still makes me cry so hard. Cause I’ve come so far. And pray for these to find their way too.
The harsh realities on impoverished reservations, such as mine, are accurately portrayed in this video! Yes, there lingers hardships but there's also a huge sense of pride & honor within our communities. Thank you C&S for this :D hoka hey.
We come in this world as spirit and leave as spirits..the walk we endure sets us apart from all things. Weak minded and gullible that's society today..the ways of the Warrior are sacred and powerful. We need to keep sun dance and other ceremonies "Alive"...

those lyrics along watching the transition of the fellow Native making peace and fighting his demons brought chills to my back.
Crying now thank you 😖😭😭
I really think that most of these people are missing the whole point of the video and song...
Love this
Fair comment that is
Its bloody excellent 👌
Fairplaybto you mate,a true man who actually has a message and isn't scared to say it!it may be 10 years later but still counts!blessed be
Thank you!!!
I am always ashamed of the way that the US treated Native Americans
Prosperity.
Beautiful video. Well done. I have driven those roads many times, my heart goes out to the native tribes. God Bless the Blackfeet.
This man's voice comes straight down from HEAVEN...
Very powerful. He was doing the wrong thing, sought his elders and spiritual leaders and he made a change. Unfortunately, a bad choice he made caught up with him but the important thing is he made peace with himself. Repentance.
GentileJedi True, but tragic.. I'd rather of just kept going. It's better, to never go back to your past..
This is actually better than some full movies I've payed to watch in cinema.
Agree, all of their videos are hard hitting and deep meaning ❤ them 🙌

Everytime I watch this video I cry. Its so moving, the parts when they show our ceremonies does not offend me. We are beautiful people with beautiful ceremonies. Its a new day and age, I believe that we were not meant to hide our ceremonies we only picked that up because there was a time our way of life was outlawed and our ceremonies not to be practiced. We don't have to hide anymore.
Truth
This video is so awesome. Its very rare to see Native Americans in a music video and these issues are real for us. These things are really happening on our reservations. Thank you so much Chase & Status for this beautiful song and for the touching video to go with it. I cried from the start. I feel so alive Hoka Hey!!!
As a First Nations Cree, this is the most emotional music video I'd ever seen! It still makes me tear up when I watch this everytime.
Best song ever.
good song

Coming from a person that loves music and music videos and to not have
liked and loved a music video in a very long time, this music video is very
heartfelt. I am from Browning, lived here all my life, I moved away a few
times but came back home because home is always home. I am a Blackfeet full
blood and to have this video be seen by the world is awesome because this
is my community and yes there are people out here in my town doing this but
who can say their town is perfect? Some Natives do not like it because of the
ceremonies but it's in cinema already, there is a movie called the return
of a man called horse, into the west shows a lot more than this. That movie
was done with the help of native elders and so was this video, with the
blessings of a society at that. So Mr. Josh Cole, Thank You for shooting
the video on the Blackfeet Rez. A Rez that is one of many in Indian
country. Thank you to the cast and crew, elders for showing the Blackfeet
Nation to the eyes of thousands maybe millions so hit that share and like
button for all Native Americans!!!
In 2020 now, the world has gone crazy. We’ve had a decade’s worth of drama in the past 6 months. Needed to hear this song again more than I thought. I’m crying now. Sending love and light to whoever sees this, may you have a beautiful life❤️
☺️ same to you 😎
Love and light :)
Love and open mind!
and it isnt getting better in 2022
Cheers!
Never get tired of watching this. So powerful

I bawl at this and everyone else should.
just won best video at the drum and bass awards lol
So glad they did win something. This shit makes me bawl.
I cry everytime I watch this video, so powerful.
So many years later, and this song still SLAPS! It's my motivation song.
bloody love it. have so much respect for native Americans. such a tradagy how they were and still are treated.

@@dabblesmith5755 You were right. That was dumb of me to say before, I deleted the comment. This whole racial thing was stupid, and a complete red herring to distract everyone from how we were so close to catching this whole covid-bs thing being a planned event.
This song enlightens my spirituality. Thanks for this song guys, it's awesome!
LOL the exaggeration.
The Hh Lol the truth. It's music, heightens my spirituality
Hi I'm native, im cherokee live in Scotland, my grandad who was native died before I was born. This song is amazing. True 👍
How powerful was this!
I am in awe of the story the song the feeling the inspiration and spiritually guidance. Glad I came to this
May the people who are going through struggles find the strength that they need to overcome and rise above anything. May they stay strong and find their victory for when they do, its not only theirs but also of the ones who have fallen with similar struggles and are no longer here. Everyone is powerful.
OMG This has me in tears!!! What an awesome , sad, beautiful short film. Creator protect all out Native nations.
Chase and status dont play around when a message is to be put across! Keep it up! Brilliant drum and bass
Wow, this was DEEP. But I love it so much
Every human being with youtube in the world should view this video and hear the tune... Best Chase and Status track yet
Such a fantastic song, the video made in a way that takes you there , to the reservation of original americans and i feel like i just was there with them. I am near to cry from overwhelming feelings.

We're not a reserve lol we're a reservation and Blackfeet

bro, what's the name of that movie ?
Fadi Al Dajjani movie...?
Fadi Al Dajjani it is a music video
I felt glad to read this.
Prayers and blessing to everyone having those hard times.
very strong, message, love it
This song has helped me through so much shit.. 3 years ago my dad left and when I was 13 my mum best friend who was like a mother to me died. I still look up to her for help and guidance.. Loved and never forgotten

You said something beautiful. Hugs from Spain.

These clips are always so confronting. Very beautiful.
I love the way that Chase & Status makes "movies" based on the songs. they're always so strong.

What one in the video was he? Sorry to hear that! RIP this song and especially video is an inspiration for so many including myself
man...the chills just won't stop .... this song started a revolution on my mind
I disagree. This is one way of many ways to do it.
Powerful and inspirational music video.
Deep!

We come in this world as spirit and leave as spirits..the walk we endure sets us apart from all things. Weak minded and gullible that's society today..the ways of the Warrior are sacred and powerful. We need to keep sun dance and other ceremonies "Alive"...
