    "It's not what happens to you,
    It's who you become."
    2012 Olympic games, DNF.
    2018 Boston marathon, 1st Place.
    So good.

    "I was never top tier." Homegirl ran a sub-5 mile in high school as a freshman!

    Congrats all the way from Brazil. Here we also have tough races and great runners too. I'm a huge fan of all those who can run Boston. But this year the race was even more amazing. See you running around.

    " Need to get a real job" ? ...Think about how much money NBA, NFL, MLB athletes all make, and not a single one of them on the face of this planet can do what you do...not one...not even close. It's a rare treat for a distance runner to get paid a full-time livable amount of money. Enjoy the fruits of your labors, Desi.

      Robby Peters Except she only crossed the finish line first because the women were given a significant head start this year. They were allowed to run roughly 20% of the route before everyone else started.
      Her time was 2:39:54.The winner of the men's category ran it in 2:15:58. Meaning she lost to him by about 24 seconds... Out of about a 2:30 second or so average race... So she took about 17% longer to finish than him.

      @@chrisr3120 Your comment is totally irrelevant to the point made by Mountaindog192. Pay attention and maybe you will not be so envious and judgmental. You need to get a real job. she is still the first US woman to win in 33 years which is a super accomplishment under any circumstances.

    2012 was when she had the stress fracture - then later she had the thyroid condition - then she won the Boston. Wow what a special woman and athlete.

    Never seen a heel striker like her to win such a big race

      Adam Keller I do not know what you’re insinuating. She is NOT a “heel striker”. Watch her stile.The watch Abibi’s running stile. (Ethiopia 1960 and 1964) The epitome of efficiency. Minimal body movement. The rolling stride she has perfected is her strength not her weakness.

      Jonathan Bachman i was just observing that nearly all professional runners have the same form where their balls of their feet hit before the heel. It’s also the most efficient way to run.

    How did Desi break her femur?

    • @michaelaleach8195
      @michaelaleach8195 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tubesockets120v my guess is that it was a stress fracture from the high mileage. Crazy difficult to do but with her mileage I can definitely see it happening. If I fracture my femur from my 20-30 mile weeks, something is really wrong haha! To train for Boston she was running 80-90 miles a week!!!
