    Really enjoy you videoing and your four places to find late summer walleyes. I am 73 young been wall eying for 60 years and every thing has revolutionized with the state of art in locaters. I bought a Humminbird three years ago still learning on it. Is the saddles you talked, how far apart will they be to find walleyes? Are they 5-20 yards apart or what? This will give me a good starter point so i am not wasting time going from saddle to saddle. Keep up the videos boss.

      Thx Denny! Love to hear it. A lot of times my favorite saddles are smaller and may be just 70-80' across in the middle. Other times it's more like a football field. Bigger saddles can hold more fish, tho they're usually spread out in separate pods. Those smaller saddles don't usually have quite as many, but the fish are way more concentrated and can be easier to catch.

    Brett, good video. Thanks. Today on a local reservoir, I believe I'm seeing a thermocline at 25'. This signal is consistant throughout the area of the lake I fished. What do you do when you encounter a thermocline above those structures you like at this time of year? Suspended fish over a thermocline? Any thots? Thanks.

    Notice you have both Humminbird and Garmin. If you could only have one unit what would it be and and model? Can’t decide what to get but can only afford one in the 3 to 4 grand range. I’ll add live later

    • @TargetWalleye
      @TargetWalleye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's a tough question because there are SO many great units out there nowadays where you really can't go wrong. If I had to choose one unit that I think is an incredible bang for the buck it would be a Humminbird HELIX with Mega Side Imaging (biggest size that's in your budget or comfortably fits in the location you're mounting it). They can do it all and I like how simple they are to use. The LakeMaster mapping is incredible, Mega Side Imaging is an extremely powerful tool, the 2D and Down Imaging is crisp. Just like them all the way around. And I run a Minn Kota trolling motor w/ the "Link" feature, so the ability to link them together with an Ethernet cable opens a ton of doors for boat control so you can focus more on the actual fishing. That being said Garmin LiveScope is INSANE and I have heard really good things about their units' other features, I just haven't really had a chance to play with them outside of LiveScope.

      @@TargetWalleye thanks so much for the reply. Absolutely love the videos. Everyone keeps telling me get the Garmin. I was looking at the new Apex or helix 15. I have a 1198 now and Terrova and love my lakemaster maps so torn between giving that up for Garmin. Choices lol

    Whats your opinion on what depths wherre barotrauma becomes an issue?

    • @sylvainlaurence1554

      A good one Mr Cody 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @TargetWalleye
      @TargetWalleye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The variable is where those fish are at in the water column and where they came from....
      Typically once you start fishing in 30’ feet, barotrauma in walleyes becomes SUBSTANTIALLY more likely. There’s a myth out there that if you reel the fish in slowly, it won’t happen. But you can’t possibly reel them up slow enough...the damage is already done. Either target fish in shallower water, or only catch what you’re going to keep ad then get out of there.
      But I’ve also seen barotrauma happen in fish that I caught in just 15-20’. But those cases were fishing structure near steep breaks, and likely the fish slid up from the depths to feed. Likewise I’ve caught a ton of suspended fish over deep water (say 10-20’ down over 30-40’ that have been good to go because they have slid off of structure, stayed suspended at the same depth, and been feeding up in the water column.
