  • In this video Mr Pelargonium explains how he does his Regal Pelargonium cuttings. New cutting material has emerged from the cut back of his Regals carried out about a month ago and now it's time to take the cuttings.

    Excellent job 👏👍 showing how to do cuttings. All the other bloggers don't angle their cameras like he did

      Thanks very much, always difficult to get the focus spot on when looking through the small screen when filming but I think it was clear enough.

    Do they change color according to soil? I bought a Regal that was half white and half purple. A year later it was white only blooms.

      No not really, it might make a very slight difference. It sounds like your plant has sported which basically means a stronger genetic mutation has dominated the growth to form the basis of the plant. D

    so when do you water them after planting the cutting?

      @@tejasnarayanappa3736 Yes wait for it to become dry at the bottom.

    So cutting is the important thing tin order to avoid the skinny look and the lack of consistency of the plant, ive growth some regal pelargoniums but they grow very tall and skinny, i did't cut them at all, so thats must be the problem with the aspect of the plant if im not wrong.

    • @thepagsociety
      @thepagsociety  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Razvan Yes that’s right. Although you do have to bear in mind that some Regals are naturally longer stemmed. David

    You have far more varieties of geraniums than U. S. .
    I have located a greenhouse nearby
    who sells Martha Washington or Regals.
    How do you heat your greenhouse, please?

    • @thepagsociety
      @thepagsociety  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, with a thermostatic electric fan heater. D

    A bit on the side, but, do you have any good ad ice on how to get i. e 'Mr. Wren' into a more shapely plant, and not so gangly as it would like to grow? I try a small pot this year, and pinch out the growing tips often, as often as it is possible, in order to make it a bit tighter in the growth.

    • @thepagsociety
      @thepagsociety  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenneth Stensrud Hi Kenneth. It comes down to the fact that, as we say in the UK, you can’t make a silk purse out of a pigs ear and this applies in this, and many other pelargoniums, case. Mr Wren is simply a plant that is long jointed with smaller leaves so it is not easy to make bushy. Yes cutting and shaping will help but you are stuck with the same plant I’m afraid. Something that it may be good for is a trained plant on a trellis set up. I have the variegated leaf version and I’m now wondering about such training 🤔. Regards David

    • @thepagsociety

      Yes you can but I never bother as Zonals root much easier. My guidance on zonal cuttings is here th-cam.com/video/lkX9kQFwt5U/w-d-xo.html
