Why not test it in manual mode? It is a DSG transmission.

a state that does Illegal flash smog checks to catch racers, which is how I reckon they got tipped off about it, and even then I bet Diesel Trucks here in the US pollute far more than the VW cars real levels.

Like last year, I still don't understand why he should leave the gearbox on auto. It surely must be faster to downshift while breaking (like he perfectly does in the Cayman) and then accelerate in the right gear instead of letting the car in the corner in 4th an then wait for the kickdown? Plus, I certainly hope that the owners will leave the car in manual when driving on a track...
It's faster than Randy's time in the 2015 WRX STI by about a half second. woot woot.

yes it will- in a straight line, this is track driving though. and you forgot to think about what all that extra torque does to that fwd-based haldex.... the mk6 R was basically useless on track once u started modding. remember- those journalists praise cars in stock form, not with mods/tunes. and you can't even get a tune on a new golf R, all that's available is garbage off-the-shelf "tunes". i wouldnt run one of those too long without getting professionally tuned.... if that availability ever comes to the R, that is.... (correct me if i'm wrong)
+J Biz those off the shelf tunes get the DSG R to 11.7 in the quarter mile and the R is already faster than the sti around a circuit. Laguna seca especially

Being based on a front wheel drive family hatchback it's always going to be quite an understeerer. No amount of all wheel drive trickery is every going to change that. Front weight bias is always going to be a handling challenge, even though VW's MQB platform attempts to minimize that weight bias.

Regarding the gearing trouble, I wonder if it was in 'S' rather than 'D'. Point is that if it still shifts down out of the corner in 'S' then
this is a pretty significant design flaw or what.
I think he was in D and not S. In S the gearbox is always in the lowest gear possible. Trust me!

You just need better tires and lighter wheels. If you want less understeer install a bigger rear sway bar. The gearbox has a sport and manual mode he did not even use!?

Daniel Bustos I haven't seen any evidence of prices dropping. Even if the emissions results were mis-advertised, the cars are still more efficient than just about any other diesel on the market.
he says the dsg wouldn't give him a gear before the gas but there was no indication of using the paddles. some gears were shifting without the relevant hand even holding the wheel

As predicted when STI did its hot lap.... The golf r is faster on this circuit than the STI just based on the mk7 gti lap times
first hothatch was a alfa romeo alfasud, 2 years before vw come out
Alfasud didn't initially come in a hatchback format, so it wasn't a hot hatch
