12 O'clock High, Combat and Conflict survived in countless reruns because they were well produced, well acted and a storyline that was based on facts or believable events. This pilot had none of the above..
@user-ry6hd4kx1j The Japanese machine guns went "Tacka-tacka" and the MP 38/40's went "Brrrrp". Weapons are multilingual evidently. Tanks went "Clank, clank, clankety(?), clank" and the sub's klaxon went "Arooga, arooga"(which is true). DC had good artists and questionable sound effects.
Is this based on the DC Comic , Sgt Rock? Read many war comics growing up in the 1960s, GI Combat, Captain Storm, Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos, Fighting Forces with Gunner and Sarge.
Just think. The military spent thousands of dollars to train men to be spotters and call in ranges when all they needed was a xan of Alpo and a dog 🤦♂️.
Easy to see why this never made it to air. A few slight changes to the story and a few better actors with some better direction would have worked too. Almost killing the dog could have worked but having the dog dead at the end definitely would not work with audiences back in the day. Should have instead saved the dog and make him a company mascot.
The Shepherd's a ringer. He'd already played RINTY on ''Adventures of Rin Tin Tin on ABC-TV [1954 -59]. His nickname was JR. No relation to the original Alsacian Rin Tin Tin.
Sergeant Rock? Really? Like in the comic books? And I can see right away why this didn't get picked up. Even for 1959, this was awful. The theme sounds like it was stolen from an Italian Fascist propaganda film. The characters are unlikable. The acting is annoying. And the first villain we meet...is a DOG? I was 5 years old when this was made and I wouldn't have watched it then, either.
Evidently,--the show folded,-because the "well trained"german sheppard'--started "humping"the directors "chahua-hua"-off set,-& they could not get it off !!-so they had to shoot the "sheppered"-to get them apart !!-and the "canine actors guild"-who owned the sheppard,-(felix-Can'e) sued the "production"--a truck accidently-reversed over the dogs carcass,so the "guild" could get death "insurance"-(this was in National-Inquirer)-
Showing my age anyone remember sargent rock in comic books?
Yeah, and Sgt. Fury too.
heck yes. those were the comics I read.....not the super hero one......
@@troybullard9631 Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos if I remember correctly.
I wish I still had mine, I had boxes of them. They might be worth a fortune today.
Sgt Rock, could take out a Tiger tank by throwing a grenade down the barrel.
12 O'clock High, Combat and Conflict survived in countless reruns because they were well produced, well acted and a storyline that was based on facts or believable events. This pilot had none of the above..
You are right this plot never made it because it was phony and the acting sucked .
Taking a shower with the enemy killed the Pilot
I liked the comic of Sargent Rock . That guy destroyed the entire German army and part of navy and air force.
Buddddddaaaa Budddddaaaa Buuuudddaaaa! ( A quote from Sargent Rocks Gun in the Comic Books!)
Easy Company was all the Allies needed
If memory serves, there was going to be a movie with Schwarzenegger as Rock.

Thank you Lionheart for bringing this pilot to the YT community
In the 60s I used to buy the old Sgt Rock Comic books.
The dog was the best actor in this
The 'Jeep' (Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4X4, G503) was good.
Same dog played Rinty on adventures of Rin Tin Tin on ABC-TV. This was a cameo.
I am assuming that the pilot was so bad, no network would make a series out of it. COMBAT was a series I remember as a kid.
They thought "Rat Patrol" was good enough to warrant a series. I mean, how bad could it be? 🤣
Killing a dog in a pilot episode; really smart move.
Fuller fought with the Big Red One, in North Africa, Italy and Western Europe. He was a hardened veteran.
My late dad's division.
@@PlasmaCoolantLeak then you dad was a hell of a soldier mate
Watch Fuller's _The Big Red One_ with Lee Marvin as the squad leader and Mark Hamill as "Griff"
@@SidneyBroadshead I have seen it and its an excellent movie.
@@williammohan9784, me too.
Whew! This turkey makes McHale's Navy look good. Also, Rat Patrol. I expected more from Sam Fuller.
I don't. I was never all that crazy about Fullers films. Highly overated as a director.
I can see why it was only a pilot. The acting is 'a bit much'. I preferred 'Combat', but to each their own.
The actors were definitely amateur level, for sure.
Great show for mind candy action...Sgt.Rock comics were inspirational for me as a kid as well
Fuller, so infantry you can smell it
Thank you. Movie lovers enjoy the talent of Mr. Fuller his biography was great. Thank you.
Dog is a German Shepherd.
At least he's not a traitor.
Garrison's Gorillas was a short lived war series in 1967.
LOVED Sgt Rock , still do . Haunted tank ect .
Loved Sgt Rock comics as a kid
Is based of dc comics caracter sgt. Rock?
Is this based on the DC Comic , Sgt Rock? Read many war comics growing up in the 1960s, GI Combat, Captain Storm, Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos, Fighting Forces with Gunner and Sarge.
Lots of movies and television shows have been filmed there.
there is on Highway 14 North East of LA heading to Lancaster.....
Speaking of old comics, anybody remember Gunner, Sarge, and Pooch? Those were the main characters but I forget what the comic was called.
Our Fighting Forces
Well after reading the comments. I thimk im the only one that enjoyed it lol. Thanks for sharing
When the Rat Patrol looks more realistic, it’s pretty bad.
Amazing how that fixed focal length telescope can zoom in like that. A technical miracle.
Vasquez Rocks.
Looks like Gorn country.
Easy to see why this show did not make it.
Shooting a dog as the central theme of the pilot was obviously a really bad idea. Had they selected a different subject?
He wasn't a very good shot........all that ammo wasted and then he only wounded the dog.
Grandpa was in north Africa, may he never be forgotten.
Not sure why he is Sky-lighting himself while waving his men forward?, but I’m just a crusty old infantryman what would I know 😂…💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦
Nazis? We haf no nazis here.
Yeah, I noticed that too.
So how did the interrogation go ?
Not so great but clearly a template for the much better 'Combat!" proper Garand use & loading...
I can see why this didn't make it...
Absolutely I collect them
Ya gotta love guys like Gibby- They are in every Army unit for all time.
They didn't run into Capt Kirk fighting the Gorn?
They are using the wrong pack .they have marine Corp M41 haversacks..being Army the should have M1928 haversacks..its the small stuff that kills it..
Late war entrenching tools...
Wow, you shot Siegfried? All he was doing was trying to tell you Klaus fell down a well!
ahhh, the santa susanna mountains in socal....what a surprise
Combat series was better with Rick Jason
Yes and Vic Morrow, maybe Fuller just needed more New York Jewish actors.
16:13. Doesn't Sgt. Rockhead know about look but don't touch? Ever hear of something called 'booby traps'?
10th SS Panzer Division was formed in 1944. It was never in Africa.
10th Panzer Division (Wehrmacht) was part of the Afrika Korps.
I turned it off when the German shepherd scout dog showed up. I never trusted that breed and this show proved it.
And that's the last time anyone saw Luke Anthony.
Yes I do.
Why does Sgt Rock sound like Bill Murray in Caddy Shack?
Just think. The military spent thousands of dollars to train men to be spotters and call in ranges when all they needed was a xan of Alpo and a dog 🤦♂️.
I enjoyed it but agree it is not “Combat”.
It's just a dog. He should have said, "But it's a German Shepard!" Bad show!
Sgt. Rock of Easy company. Loved Rock, should have been maded. But I was to young to see it.
Hollywood was pose make a movie on d c comic sgt, rock& the hunted tank, 40yrs ago, never did, 🤬🤬😭😭 Jf.
Ouch! Couldn't even get their German spelling right.
no way would this ever make tv.🤐😮💨

That German Shepherd is a better actor than the clowns in this dog of a movie. It doesn’t compare to Combat.

1959 ?
Year of the 49 star U.S. flag (July 04, 1959 - July 03, 1960).
Bikinis weren't thought up until after the atomic tests in the Pacific after the war.
that's right the garment was around but the marketing term was not. Silly anachronism.
In 1959 the word was everywhere thanks to Bridget Bardot...@@btraven7681
Might have been picked up if they didn't kill the dog.

I see Rin Tin Tin.
ONE OF THE GREATEST DEPICTIONS OF LIVE COMBAT IN HISTORY
😎
🤙
Well that was both corny and depressing.
The WORST pilot episode in history. No wonder no one picked it up.
This was so bad I fell asleep 10 minutes in.
The voices were the worst.
They can’t all be gems.
This is CORNY as heck.
