The opening sequence was the Pythons' reaction to all those "experimental foreign films" of the time, most of which were just about "avant garbage"...the director Cleese portrays at 6:58 is supposed to be a caricature of Joseph McGrath, the director of "The Magic Christian" (1969), of whom John and Graham Chapman furnished "additional material" to Terry Sothern's screenplay...
yeah, he was definitely making fun of the French actors, I agree with that..I was just pointing out the uncanny similarity between the two seemingly disparate industries (with reference to the South Indian actors here)
it's amazing how jaded, boring and OLD MP makes television today look, especially most of the crap pigeonholed under "comedy"...these guys were so far ahead of their time, man, i think we're only now beginning to realise just how far... it's also amazing just how much Terry looks like a South Indian film actor, in the beginning...maybe they stole the look from him...
Oh,but you do not understand fully.Eric Idle when he speaks of the "French film industry" actually refrers to the quote from Descarte "I Film Noir.therefore who cares,?I don't".This French blase` attitude a direct result of "having done it all and now I'm bored stiff".Lets face it,while your Grand Da was fighting in Normandy, the Frogs were lamenting the ruined vinyard crops.
Eric's American accent fails in the best way possible.

You've got to love exploding vegitables and montages of people killing and hurting each other.

And somehow it's better than any "art" films I've ever seen.
Too bad they didn't poke fun at those Merchant-Ivory films nostalgic over the British Raj in India. 😬

Eric has some weird wigs, I must say.
TJ is humming the tune from the "Man with the tape recorder up his nose" sketch
Actually, it's La Marsillaise.
Cleese's pissed, Scottish director may be a piss-take of their own alcoholic Ian Mcnaughton.
Am I the only one to notice the one mention of John Wayne in Monty Python canon?
What kind of accent is using John Cleese?
Definitely the greatest movie of all time.

I think Terry's making fun of French art house movie protagonists. Why South Indian actors would want to emulate that I don't know
