Невозможно выразить словами то ,что чувствую, когда играет такой талант! Нарек один из гениальных музыкантов моего народа! Я так горд, что Армяне имеют такого сына! 👏👏👏👏👏
Wonderful. I have only recently discovered Variations on a Rocco listening on my radio station that plays classical music in Australia. I was familiar with most of Tchaikovsky's works since I was a young man but it took me decades to catch up on this composition.
It seems impossible to appreciate his performance in words. It is wonderful, full of passion, charming like youthful love, and excited like a turbulent ocean.
i think the same! he is almost as flawless as yo-yo ma but brings in a tad more vividness. kind of like jian wang techniques mixed with pierre fournier... :)
I like how you used the words humility and style - essential elements but often not widely understood as being part of what makes an “excellent” performance.
This has been one of my favorite cello pieces for the past 40 years and I have listened to just about every recorded version and was also privleged to hear Rostropovich play it. Howver, this performance by Narek Hakhnarzaryan lifts the Rococo to a whole new level. Apart from the superb technique, Narek is the only one I heard that truly connects with the music. This is nothing short of a heavenly performance!
Narek Hakhnarzaryan's playing is a revelation. This is beyond usual virtuosity... it's as though the cellist and his instrument are one organism from which every emotion manifests directly as unbelievably beautiful music, without pretense or filtering.
Rick Ross, no, he is the son of Armenia not America! There is a beautiful, soulful, talented country in the middle of chaos right now unfortunately! Narek, you are the greatest and we are proud of you! Much love
Such transcendent and mesmerizing performance! Cannot have enough of it! Bravo Narek and bravo the orchestra and Tugan Sokhiev! Thank you so very much!
The first encore (24:15) is Lamentatio by Giovanni Sollima, the second (32:04) is the Sarabande from Bach's third suite for unaccompanied cello. He announces them but it may be hard to catch the words. Especially in the Bach Sarabande you can hear what a magnificent cello he plays, a fitting instrument for this magnificent performer.
Tchaikovsky's delightful and delicious confection is given a rare outing here in its original version. It is a masterpiece, to be sure, but due to some changes made by its dedicatee, Wilelm Fitzhagen, it hasn't always been what it is now. And Narek plays superbly - dashing off the virtuoso passages as if they weren't there and playing with such delicacy and charm throughout. But he also responds to the splendid orchestra, under Tugan Sokhiev, making this sound like a chamber piece. In over forty years of listening to this piece, I have never enjoyed it more. Immaculate. I shall return to this version often..!
I watched his performance of this piece live during the final round of the Tchaikovsky competition. Here again, I'm reminded of his brooding tone (e.g. 15:58 - 16:10). What an addictive sound.
Narek is almost magical! Just watching and listening to him improves my cello performance-- like the Rykov Effect, like Reiki transference--truly gifted and amazing performer, with a very sharing spirit.
Beautiful music, great performance, very well filmed (if you don't mind the angles), but it would be nice to have this in 1080p and the refresh rate, in particular, seems quite low.
Does anyone know what kind of rosin Narek uses? On close-ups there seems to be no rosin deposit on the strings or dust on the instrument, even after a long piece.

He will be one of the greats. He has everthing: technique, musicality, passion, style, and humility ...

So basically it is a larger violin ? Much obliged.

2 years late, but just to say this isn't the original version!
This is Fitzhagen's version.

Narek Hachnazaryan is playing so sensitive and dynamic .... simply GREAT ! So that I,m Freezing on my back !.....
Narek is almost magical! Just watching and listening to him improves my cello performance-- like the Rykov Effect, like Reiki transference--truly gifted and amazing performer, with a very sharing spirit.
Music, instrument and the musician become one! Feeling the presence of the divine....
Haven't heard too many renditions but this is by far the best I've heard, better than Rostropovich or Yo Yo Ma.
Technisch, genial gespielt , mit tiefer Emotionalität, die Seele Tschajkovskis war Präsent. Du hast ein Sound, kann man dich schon unterscheiden von anderen. Bravo!!!
