      @ubub932 They don't even have to eliminate it. The cap is somewhere around $160k. Earnings beyond that are not taxed for SS & Medicare.
      Even just raising the cap to $200k would make a huge difference.

    • @ubub932
      @ubub932 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tharp769 whatever settles the solvency issue and settles it permanently.
      also recommend disqualifying the wealthy from eligibility or, eliminating the cap altogether because it sucks when wealthy celebrities apply for their SS when they hit retirement age. SS isn't intended for the wealthy and, never was.
      eliminating the cap is the absolute best option, rather than half-assing it at $200k, which is effectively just kicking the can down the road.

    I worked as a public school teacher for 29 years and an administrator for 13 years. I paid in to SS for my entire career, as well as the restaurant jobs I had before I started teaching. I did receive a small pension when I retired with the state of WA. As public servants, who paid into SS, it would be devastating to lose it.

    Call your GOP/MAGA senators and remind them that don't need a threat from President Elect-Musk for a primary challenge... they just need a threat from you that you'll vote for a Democrat for the first time in order to protect your SS, Medicaid & Medicare.
    Also, for you landowners & ranchers, you all better be paying attention to this new administration. Seizing your land will be a top priority, and I don't just mean by the southern border, I'm taking about you in Wyoming & Montana.

    I am directly affected by this. I worked for 20 years under Social Security and now I’m a teacher. Teachers don’t pay into SS. Under the old plan, I would see a huge deduction in SS. I’m very happy this passed. I’ve always been a public servant and I’ve paid my dues more than once.

    Amen. Elected officials always need to remember to reflect their constituencies, work on their behalf, and be vigilant to protect their rights. Too many of the folk that get elected think that it is their own personal point of view is all that counts, and that the voters' concerns matter less. They think that " since they voted for me then they must believe exactly what I believe and what I stand for ". So they step up on a soapbox, declare their own personal views, and how they are going to vote on a pending issue --- whether or not their constituent voters actually agree with them. This is wrong. In representative government, an elected official should speak for the consensus of their voters, not simply for themselves.

    Please you guys. I work 10 years for the school board, 5 years in MI & 5 years in LA. When you work a state job you pay into the state retirement fund. You don't pay into SS. The rest of my life, before & afterwards, I worked other jobs and paid into SS. The state retirement pays better than SS. I lost my 10 years only because when I applied for my retirement in MI, it had just gone bankrupt. They said they had no money. Since I lost 5 years with MI, LA didn't have to pay me because you had to have 10 years total. But LA did pay at least my money I paid into their system. So instead of drawing off my interest of $20,000.+ retirement I just got a check for about $5,000. These guys are just planning on cutting retiree's SS paycheck in the near future.

    Listening to Ed Weir phD who is a retired SS manager said the SSFairness Act isn’t fair. They need to take into account the total of their FICA payments not just the few that are being counted for the SSFA. People with low income their income counts more than people higher incomes. So those who are receiving the SSFA are receiving a higher percentage for just the few jobs that the SSFA is counting, they need to take into account the total of their income to come up with a fair number.

    About 1/2 of my family were in this situation, but the Act actually is a bad idea. These workers pay less into SS and that's why they don't get full benefits. In contrast, non public servants making the same salary have their pay fully taxed for SS, reducing their income. And now, with this Act, SS will be insolvent sooner.

    I got mix feelings about this. The way the Social Security is calculated more of a person's working income is replace for lower income workers. Better off workers get less than actuary due to help pay for that . Because SS is mostly an insurance against senior poverty. So the missing years a person did not pay would make that person seem low income when many were not and give a bigger percent . The good about it is many seniors affect by this are low income and this will help them. The bad is workers who were not low income will get the same as someone actually low income but paid in their whole work life. I am one of those higher paid workers who subsidize this. I have no problem with true low income workers but not high paid ones. Like most things done by the government 100 % fair seems unobtainable.

She was an awesome officer! 1st female president of the FOP in our state. She was so proud of being able to help abused children and women. So sad. She's suffering because of greedy government policies. SMFH. 😢
