But they're not tripping; they're performing their new job duties. It's an awkward situation when you start in the position as your boy and then get promoted to a higher position. It's true that he was probably being as negligent and careless as his boy but it doesn't change the fact he is now in a higher position and has to ensure compliance with policy.

I just recently got promoted to manager and I’m a firm believer in leading by example and I make sure that I am working the most hours and doing things that can’t get done due to time constraints so that my people can work their shift and not have overtime and it’s a lot of work but I have worked in this place for years and I’ve never seen the employees so motivated and working so hard. If you aren’t willing to do it yourself don’t ask someone else to do it.
Damn right. Respect them, lead by example, and your crew will stand behind you the whole way. And the ones that don't, well then they probably weren't going to be worth anything anyway. Too many times I've seen managers fuck about and dodge responsibility as much as possible to shove the work off on the people below them.
I get the same from my managers at work. If I can’t get something done they’ll jump in and help finish it. I also work hard and they see that. It’s nice when managers and associates can all work together as a team.

Some decided to go through the mall without my permission while they were on the clock. I had to put my foot down and start micromanaging.
I've never had this happen before, but I've have it be the opposite way - manager becomes 'regular' employee and tries to act like they weren't mr. badass manager before. Yeah, we ain't friends, buddy.

It does suck having to crack down on the same people that you f off with on doing the same stuff you used to do but as a supervisor your under a lot more heat from higher ups and I ain’t about to lose food on my table for other people not doing their job. Now I'm in charge of this job in Amsterdam and they sent me a young guy to assist me. I don't care what the paper says what to do. We do it my way. Our job is tough, so we need to be good physically and mentally. I make sure we take real breaks! After lunch we need time for the food to settle. Time apart from each other is important. Need to talk to loved ones. Go do it. I need your mind to be clear of everything. Also enough sleep is important and we make time to have fun.

That's why i minimize friendship on jobs 'coz i know most of the people we work with on the same level wish they could fire one another the only thing is they don't have authority to do so.
