Jan and Dean deserve to be in the R&R Hall of Fame, period.... Their body of work speaks for itself.... I don't know who calls the shoots at the Hall, but the current crop is daft, pure and simple.... These guys are legendary, they were a HUGE part of the 60s... Wake up guys, and get them inducted!!!!

I saw this movie when it first was on tv in 1978, I was almost 17. I taped it when it was on tv a couple years later, and then bought the VHS. I cant begin to count the times I've watched it over the years. It's one of my favorite movies ever. When it gets to this part, i get tears in my eyes, then I get mad at the audience and feel like punching them in the nose! Gets me "right there" when they sing without the music and Jan chokes up😢. I'm glad it turns into a happy ending. I didnt know the real Jan was in the audience. I never heard of Papa Doo Run Run, who were also in the movie(Ive just in this last year learned to find stuff on TH-cam)Richard Hatch and Bruce Davison were both great. Nope, they don't make movies like this anymore. One of the greatest come-back stories there is.

I wish that the tv interview Jan and Dean gave on the Mike Douglas show some months after they actually started touring again ....October of 1978...would be posted on here. It's sooo moving and wonderful. Jan talks about his experience....and there aren't any words to describe the admiration it evokes for him....and Dean.

I seen this when I was just a kid. I remember all of us kids watching it and when it got to this part of the movie there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Even so it's just a movie, still the emotional connection was there. When the crowd was booing and you see that man onstage visably upset and struggling to talk it makes you feel like you could whip that entire crowd all by yourself just to defend that man and you would do it without thought or care of harm to yourself.

The casting was phenomenal! I got to know Jan and Dean within a few years of this movie. Richard and Bruce nailed their personalities to a "t". Especially Richard. He had Jan's mannerisms down pat. There was a look Jan had in his eyes that Richard covered so well it was almost scary. So sadly missed are they both.Jan is in the audience(as are his parents) in the comeback scene.

Grown up a little bit more and I can relate to Dean's struggles a bit more. And if Richard Hatch didn't get to you somewhere deep down you have a heart of stone. Hope he's somewhere warm and sunny and the surf's up. Surf or die. PEACE

I remember hearing in an interview with Dean, that it didn't happen exactly the same way in real life. In reality, they purposely made the tape sound like a record skipping, just as a joke to add a little humor into their show. However, the movie producers felt it was too complicated to explain what really happened so they altered the story slightly. The overall point was still made though. Jan & Dean did lipsynch, the crowd did realize it was lipsynched, and they did boo Jan & Dean. Good scene!

Jan & Dean belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They had many hits, fans and helped to create sounds that were legendary.
J&D and the Beach Boys created the California surf sound that helped to define the 1960's.
I shake my head at some of the acts already in the Hall.
Many did not do half of what Jan & Dean did.

Two months earlier on March 7th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 14 weeks in the Top 100...
The B-sided also charted, "The New Girl In School", it reached #37...
Sadly; Jan Berry passed away on March 26th, 2004 at the age of 62...

I saw this CBS TV movie as a six year old, 2/4/78. Jan Berry has been given the shaft compared to Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson co-wrote "Surf City". I didn't know that in 1978. If it wasn't for Jan Berry's push to force Brian Wilson to become confident with his songwriting, and music production, there is no Pet Sounds.
