Did you get it figured out? I have a 2016 colorado and if I shut the A/C off the heat only works on defrost modes it will not work on the other dash settings all I get is cold out if them. So defrost or defrost with feet. It's driving me nuts to say the least.
I have a 2018 GMC Canyon with "Auto" mode for the climate control. If the outside humidity is high the ac compressor starts (If the fan is on) even with the ac off. Owners manual: Auto Defog : The climate control system may have a sensor to automatically detect high humidity inside the vehicle. When high humidity is detected, the climate control system may adjust air delivery modes, outside air supply, and turn on the air conditioner. If the climate control system does not detect possible window fogging, it returns to normal operation. To turn Auto Defog off or on, see “Climate and Air Quality” under Vehicle Personalization 0 136.
