man your videos have been extremely informative and well produced, i’m getting into hockey so these vids have been so helpful in learning the history and context behind the best teams and players. it’s a shame they aren’t more popular you deserve it!
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and finding them helpful! I appreciate the comment and who knows maybe someday the TH-cam algorithm will find me.
The way he watched and mastered the understanding of the game on and off the ice reminds me of Bedard “Bedsy” and how he looks at the game…this season is going to be an exciting one
I love this series you did. You gave me all the answers in NHL history that I was looking for and more. Looking forward for part 6 and 7. Go Leafs Go! 2024, the year of the end of the cup drought.
It sounds like it's a when and not an if right now (tho I kinda wish they'd leave it at 32). As for where is most likely, right now I'd say the front runners are Atlanta and Houston. Beyond that Arizona is guaranteed to get a team again if they can get an arena built (and ideally new owners), Kansas City and Milwaukee wouldn't surprise me. That's just what I think is most likely tho not what I think makes the most sense. Houston, Atlanta and Phoenix do make sense as they are HUGE population centers but if I were to place teams I'd also include a second Toronto team or maybe Hamilton or something (the leafs would never allow it tho) and Quebec City (already having an arena seems like it should be a big plus until it gets old). The problem with more Canadian teams getting added right now is that there is just flat out less money to be made due to the strength of the Canadian dollar and lower growth potential by drawing in new fans to the NHL. Not saying I think those should be disqualifying reasons but I believe Gary and the NHL may see them as such.
I definitely agree with 32 being a nice number. 33 is awkward since one conference would be lopsided. 34 is awkward since two divisions would be lopsided. 36 is really the next number that gives you equal numbers in divisions and conference. So in that case let's get Quebec City + Hamilton + Halifax + Saskatoon 😂 In all seriousness though I agree with your take about Bettman's wish for entering large new untapped markets like Houston. Atlanta has been tried before but I could see them trying again. I've always been surprised that Wisconsin does not have a team given their climate and being sandwiched between Minnesota and Chicago. Milwaukee would basically be an instant geographic rival with both of them. Kansas City also would be an instant rival with St Louis. Houston with Dallas. Not sure about Atlanta's regional rivalry maybe Carolina or Nashville? Unfortunately it seems as though we may never see another Canadian team in our lifetimes or while Bettman is commissioner. I genuinely believe that if the NYC metropolitan area can sustain 3 teams then the GTA can sustain 2. It's basically the population of Alberta + BC combined within a 2 hour drive of Toronto!@@CheapSeatsSports
I've always had an interest in hockey since I could remember. My interest only deepened while I was living in Germany from the late '80s to early '90s. It was the Stanley Cup Finals of '93 that solidified the two teams I would continue to follow to this day. Then Montreal Canadiens and the LA Kings.
Just binged all 5 of these. Really enjoyed it. Gonna go watch the rest of your videos now.
I'll have part 6 out later this summer!
Keen for part 6!
Aiming for early to mid August of this year

I'm excited to see how Bedard does in the NHL (even though I'm not a huge fan of the team he ended up on)
Mcdavid is the new Gretzky. He will outplay Gretzky, Orr(if he never got hurt) and bedard. Bedard doesn’t have the same speed that mcdavid does
If you talk to Orr he will tell you that mcdavid is going to be the greatest of all time. If not second best
I like your use of the map with the logos.
Thanks! I appreciate the comment!

Thanks, glad you're enjoying them! I'll definitely get at least part 6 out this off-season
@@CheapSeatsSportscool! Looking forward to it!
Good luck against the Bruins tonight. I'm rooting for y'all as a Panthers fan.
@@Lanes100 lol We Want Florida!
If the NHL were to expand again, which city would have the best odds of getting a team? Quebec City?

Thanks for helping me learn more about hockey!
Such a great lead-up video to the upcoming season. Awesome graphics! Helps alot
Critics: Gretzky might struggle due to the more physically in the NHL.
Gretzky: And I took that personally
Basically lol
@@CheapSeatsSports Mario Lemieux would have struggled in the more physical NHL and he had back problems anyway
@@michaelleroy9281 And he took it personally like a boss 😎

It's always fun to hear how people get to become fans of teams. Especially those who are outside North America.
Great video! Thanks man
Love your videos! THX
Great Job!!!
Thanks!

It was Aristotle who said we have only 5 senses, but he was wrong, and I’m not talking about ESP.
As a newbie to hockey I do find it ironic that Gretzky as this Canadian icon lost his last Stanley Cup final to the last Canadian team to win it
Yeah that is wild huh?
Heck ya
Šťastný is not Czech born. He is Czechoslovak born, born in Bratislava, Slovakia (Czechoslovakia back then)
are you preparing a part 6 or is the series going to stop? cause you’re an alazing storyteller i rewatched all 5 parts
Yeah I'll be continuing this series likely in the summer after the season when I have more time to devote to it. I'm glad you're enjoying them!
@@CheapSeatsSports let’s go!!
Gretzky was also not traded. He was sold to the kings
If you took a team of Bobby Orr's and a team of Gretzky's. Team Orr Would win every time.
Not even close
I think I'd rather put money on the Gretzky team but it'd be fun to watch!
WHA
Great job as always, love your videos, very enlightening
