    You truly captured the essence of the bird. I love your use of prompts. Thank you for being an inspiration and sharing

    Wow wow wow! Who knew the inspiration was from a bird? Mesmerizing and makes me want to try harder to “abstract” what I see around me. TFS

      Thank you! It's amazing what's around that we don't think about painting. I see these birds all the time and not once, until a couple of days ago, did I ever consider using it as inspiration for a painting.

      @@chrisloudart that is truly amazing that you’d never thought to paint them and yet when you did …it just happened ! Keep up the good work and keep inspiring those of us less talented people!

    Hello. I hope I am not disturbing you. I am new to this channel and had a question. You may have answered this on your previous videos, but, I have just stumbled on this one. Most of the art channels I watch are from artists who were classically trained, and from that, went the abstract road. They learned how to master drawing, painting, color theory, composition, and then, went abstract. May I ask, did you train in university, or, were you self taught? I only ask, as, you have a confidence that most trained artists have, yet, a way of going your own way, as a self taught artist does. It is refreshing to see. Sorry to take up your time. I rarely ever write, but, curiosity got the best of me.

    • @chrisloudart

      Hey Emily! You're not disturbing me at all. I'm self taught. I started painting 3 years ago with landscapes by watching and painting along to videos by Rod Moore, an Australian painter. There are many great free online videos to learn color theory, composition, values, etc. I paint every day even if it's just a 15 minute warm up. I've learned more in these warm up sessions about what I like, what I need to improve on, and what I do well. My thought is it's all about continuing to learn, try new things, and to paint as often as you can. Oh, and play around and have fun. That's the main ingredient.

    • @musicalemily5464
      @musicalemily5464 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chrisloudart As I thought. One can always tell the artists who took it upon themselves to learn. This is in no way disrespecting those who have trained in University. I have GREAT respect, as, it is a monumental feat in learning all aspects of the art world. The work that is given and expected in University, is extraordinary. I am just observing that, there is a kind of organic flow to those who self taught, compared to others. I am not sure others agree with me, but, it is there for me to see. Thank you for answering. Interesting observation

      I go to several artist talks at galleries every month and I would say it's a fairly even split between self-taught and artists trained at universities.

    How do you get the paint into the fine tip applicators? All I'm doing is making a mess! 😅

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, excellent question! I literally have on the list for my next video "filling a fine tip applicator". I've tried several methods with varying degrees of mess. So far the easiest way is mixing paint and water (or extender) in an oral syringe, then you can squirt it right into the bottle. I bought a 2 pack at Walmart for $3.

    • @dw7939
      @dw7939 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisloudart it works well with acrylic inks and Golden high flow and fluid, anything else needs to be mixed with something to thin. I recommend the Golden high flow.

    I dont understand the purpose of putting lines down if only to totally cover it with paint. Also im confused why you put said lines down when you already had a composition planned.

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tee! Great question! I start a lot of paintings by putting down marks and sometimes random paint for an initial background. I do this in case I get to a point in the painting where I want to scrape or wipe away some of the paint and let some of that peek through. On this painting, I decided not to do that. I should have mentioned that in the video.

    • @teetreadwell9290
      @teetreadwell9290 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @chrisloudart OK, great point.
      I'm looking at so many videos and constantly confuse myself on the best way to start a painting.
      Thanks for explaining.
