    Hey thanks for the video, was just about to replace the tubes in my esx & emx. Super helpful to see the process, and know that I'm doing it right!
    Some fun tube facts:
    The tubes in the electribe are "drive tubes", they're designed to distort the signal rather than adding warm harmonics. Tubes more commonly used for amplification have the subtle characteristics that many are looking for.
    The interesting thing about drive tubes is that their character varies more drastically than other types. Swapping to a different type of drive tubes can give you different overdrive tones.
    The the tubes these electribes shipped with are the same kind of 12ax7 that are more commonly used for drive in guitar amplifiers.

    Hey man, I hope you read this, great video, it helped me a lot! I also have the EMX and ESX and wanted to replace the tubes, and it worked fine with the EMX, absolutely no problems at all, once again great video! When I wanted to replace the tubes on the ESX I got the same message as you, "Ajst (L) N.G". I was actually quite happy that you got the same message as me, for the fact that you got it to work. But I tried it three times now, checked everything, put the knobs in the right place, switched the input to MIC, everything. So that's where I'm stuck now. What I find weird is that it worked on the EMX just fine, same cable, same tubes. I got that cable specially made from a trustworthy source, and once again it worked with the EMX. I don't want to mess with it too much I don't want to ruin the whole machine, and thinking about giving it to a Music-reapir shop, so they can take a look at it. It would be nice to save some money, so maybe you got any tips or advice? Once again, great video and I hope to hear from you soon and have a good day!

      Hey Hey! I'm sorry, but as you can see from this video, i'm not an expert in this, and what you see in this video is the only advice i've got for this procedure. 😀 👊
      In the end, switching the tubes helped me get it done. (That was just lucky I think...)

      @@ElectronisoundsAudio Hahaha yeah, I see that you are not a complete expert 😂. I just wanted to ask because you are the only person who I found that had the same problem. I tried switching the tubes, unfortunately I got the same result. Thanks for the quick response and for the tip! I'll be heading to my repair man in a couple of days and post an update when I get the machine back, in the case that other people got the same problem. Thanks again and have a good one!

      @@Leviathan-mj8gi Thanks for the message, the device is at my local repair shop now so they can take a look at it because what I didn't notice before (I don't know how I missed it) the left and right outputs are a bit funky meaning sometimes more volume on the left side then more on the right side it seems to have contact issues. That's my biggest lead right now, the tubes are brand new and the same tubes that I installed on my EMX (the calibration process went perfectly on the EMX) and we're properly installed. I also followed the manual step by step multiple times and checked the each knob every time. I think because of the outputs being "funky" it wouldn't let me calibrate, or there is something wrong with the tubes. But as I said it's currently in service and I can't do much now but thanks for your comment and I'll post an update when I get it Back. I think I'll even try the calibration process in the shop and hopefully it works if not they can take a look at it again. Have a good one!

      Ok so I just got the machine back from my repair shop, he said he had to re-solder some contacts. He told me he had some experience with the Electribes, and usually he had to re-solder the regular L, R Outputs, but with my machine he said those contacts were fine, but one PCB board below was where the problem was at. I unfortunately don't know exactly what he re-soldered, but he did re-solder something, just not where the problem was usually at. Anyway I'm at home now, tried the calibration aaand... It works. I got through the calibration process with no problem at all, both "Ajst L" and "Ajst R" were at "0000" and the calibration process was successful. I hope this is going to be helpful for some people and thanks to @Electronisounds Audio and @Leviathan

    Thanks for the tutorial and sound pack - I've installed a fresh set of Tung-Sols and the Adrenalize. Hats and other toasty highs used to distort, and the reverb was metallic and horrible. The oils thing really just depends on how hot the tubes run. What will happen is after a certain point the part with your oils will heat up more than the surrounding glass, which causes differences in degradation which in the end can cause the tube to break sooner.

    Happy to say ive made the cable since i got the resistors today. Done a quick job on it nothing fancy and it worked :D . Only had 0005 on both channels now calibrated both to 0000 plus the valvemx also been calibrated. Not having any distortion at all and mine are the jjecc83s. I was having distortion with them before hence why having the cable is essential so the emx knows and adjusts itself to it.Great sound love the new tubes nothing like the nasty electro harmonix ones. Time to make some more acid tracks! :D

      @filipesantos8525 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ElectronisoundsAudio np nice to meet you and thanks for your videos. You might get jitter someday as all tribes do. If you do its due to contact from the upper board to the lower board. When i got it i noticed if i would apply some pressure on the metal casing around where the writing is patterns step songs and so on the values would change without touching any knobs. I fixed mine by making sure the ribbon that connects the boards doesnt touch the upper board. Some other people isolate the boards with baking paper but for me the ribbon worked. As for the encoder i had to open the knob , be very careful removing the tabs and removed the liquid solution which was very sticky and closed it , again very careful. Now everythings alright. Also the feel of turning the knob feels way more solid. Some other people might try using a contact cleaner which may help but i never tried that. Some others replaced the knob but then the problem comes back so i think that opening the knob is the best thing and clean the plastic part of it.I love my emx1 its the best tribe ever as the esx1 is. I had an Sd one before and had same problem so had to open it and just cleaned the knob which was full of the liquid solution. Didnt have to open the knob that time but this time had to as the solution seems to dry overtime and starts to get sticky. It becomes really annoying when the encoders like that and values keep skipping back and forth all the time. I just replaced the valves with 2 jj ecc83s. Sounds great. Just waiting on the resistors to build that cable and properly calibrate it. I calibrated it manually rotating the 2 resistors where the tubes are so i get a proper balanced left and right but i think i really have to build that cable so the brain of the emx properly adjusts them and tells me what i have to do. I really struggled a lot to get them properly balanced and had to turn one nearly all the way to the left. So that cable is essential. I own a smartmedia version and it rocks :). And again i'm never getting rid of it ever again!

    Hi - I just purchased an emx1 that appears to be in excellent condition. All works well, the adapter looks in pretty nice condition as well. My only issue is that after using for an hour or so, I noticed the back center-right gets pretty dang warm. I’m guessing this is normal for a synth with tubes and all metal casing. I just wanted to make sure before the warranty runs out at GC if indeed this is not normal.
    As a second inquiry - the sine and triangle waves are extremely snappy unless they have some cutoff added. Is this a matter of taste for using sine waves like this? My mc707 gives you a choice if you want hard or soft sine waves. And most synths have an ADSR to trim the attack ever so lightly. I kind of like the percussive aspect but it also sounds poppy like a badly chopped sample. Thanks

    • @ElectronisoundsAudio
      @ElectronisoundsAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Yes - it gets HOT.
      2. Sorry, I don't know. But of course you can't compare it to a modern, MC707 in any way... ;) This is ancient tech by comparison... There is always weirdness with ancient tech... ;)

    • @GrootsieTheDog
      @GrootsieTheDog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ElectronisoundsAudio cool thanks for the reply. Doing a little research, classic sine waves have a lot of pop to them and most analog synths do as well - but I guess I haven’t noticed it as much because of ADSR and the ability to change the attack ever so slightly to round out that millisecond of snap sound + some VA synths modeled their sines with less pop - which leads us to the mc707 and its ability to adjust that and give us an option in a special setting apart form the adsr :)

    Hello thanks a lot for this video ! I'm considering changing the tubes more serenely now. Maybe some of you could help me because I have a question and I can't find the answer : I got an unit recently and I'm almost sure tube amps are dead because if I raise just a little bit the tube gain I have distortion. So if the tube amps are dead and need to be replaced, does that mean that the sound of master volume is altered even in the tube gain is at 0? Or if I decide to not use the tube gain volume, I can't keep this unit like this?
    I'm asking this because sometimes I have the feeling that even with the tube gain at 0 sound on master volume seems saturated on specific factory preset (especially when couple bass / kick is activated). Thank you

    • @ElectronisoundsAudio
      @ElectronisoundsAudio  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😁🙏👊
      The original tubes that were in my unit caused more (bad sounding) distortion that pleasant gain sound as well.
      That's why I felt the need to replace (upgrade) them in the first place.
      These new tubes sounded WAY BETTER than the tubes that were originally in there.
      For sure, you can still use the unit with no tube gain though... Does it sound ok when the knob is at zero?
      If so, then you could for sure just stay that way, but the tube drive is really nice when you have BETTER QUALITY tubes put in there! 👍👍

If you have a beginner's guide I truly believe you'd be helping a lot of ppl whom still have a sampler in 2020! • @JasonOzolins
      @JasonOzolins 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likewise, late to the reply, but the service manual describes the cable wiring.
      Both stereo signals need 2.2M resistors in series before they connect together as the mono input signal.
      Don't get a pre-made mono-to-stereo cable that is sold for driving two inputs from a mono output, as for that fan-out application it would not have resistors.
      Without those resistors, the stereo channel amp outputs will be shorted together, and current will flow between the *outputs* when they drive to different voltages. 😬
      As the unit will only be driving the tube for one channel at a time during calibration, at the very least the calibration will be affected.

      When you plug your headphones to the EMX-1 directly, with no adapters - do you get sound from both left and right channels? If yes, then the problem could indeed be with your adapter. Ideally, you would plug the left and right 1/4 outputs of the EMX-1 into a mixer, then plug a set of monitor speakers into the mixer. But you can go direct from the EMX-1 to a pair of powered monitor speakers if you need to. 😀 👊
