Do as the Romans do... smoking!😂😂 That first record store looked pretty upmarket and stacked with stock. Really cool! I've never been to Rome so its high on my list of places to visit. Great video, Brian!
Wow! Love the bells, and then the siren, sounds like Europe, thanks for taking us on vacation with you, my fathers favorite city was Paris, he would go visit every few years, great video, really enjoyed the records too...
First shop looked incredible Brian! Clean & Organized! I’m hoping that you frame a shot of The Coliseum, your first introduction to it in this video was absolutely beautiful! 🤘🏻
I enjoy seeing the travelog. That is one strange record store. On my last road trip I stopped at a record store in Bloomington, IL and the bins were too high to look at the records comfortably. Now it would probably not be a problem for Kareem Abdul Jabbar, but it was for me. I liked seeing the Colosseum without scaffolding which unfortunately is how I saw it. I hope your trip is going well.
Bins that are too high sounds awful. I also hate over-stuffed bins. How are we supposed to flip through the records? The Colosseum was an amazing thing to see in person, especially without scaffolding!
Hi Brian, looks like you’re having a great time. I spoke to my father this morning, who lives in Italy, he said it’s been extremely hot. They do the same thing with the used records at certain stores in the UK. You have to bring the copy up to the counter and ask for the record. I hope you are eating lots of great food. 🍷
Extremely hot is correct. Thankfully, we are fully air conditioned! I have heard about this idea of keeping records behind the counter, but I have never seen it in person -- apart from CDs -- until now. The food has been very good and the wine has been magnificent :)
I need to go back. I loved Italy. Only hit up Rome, Venice and Florence (surrounding areas). I'd go back to all three in a heartbeat. Romans walk on the shaded side of the street. I noticed that.
Beautiful travelogue, Brian. I kind of like those record shops where it's chaos everywhere: who knows what will turn up? Thanks for putting this together 😎🎶
Even though I was frustrated with that store, I would go back if I am ever here again. I think there was more gold in those bins, if I had had more time to browse.
@EmbryonicRobot When coming across a record store with family and/or friends, we need to choose wisely.😎 Let's face it: they know if left alone we'd be in a place like that all day!
Hey there Brian. Nice to see the part three. Could it be possible that The Smiths debut was selling for over a hundred? 7:18 I will see what you grabbed on the next video. Thanks for sharing the nice shots of Italy and the shops~ Rob/Boston
Hi Rob - Yes, I believe the price on the Smiths debut was 120 euros! Wow! I didn't check what pressing it was. I'll stick with my lowly Canadian 1st pressing. I passed over some pricey Smiths boots too. I may regret that...
I would have been all over that 50% off Metal bin. The exchange rate is definitely a factor. On one of my Montreal trips the US/Can rate was 1-to-1 and it made everything crazy expensive. Thanks for sharing more of your trip, Brian!
Love the Coliseum and Rome! Record shopping is a it hit and miss it looks like. Good that you are checking them all out. That 50% of metal sale at the last one would have hooked me ;) safe travels!
Very impressed with the editing Brian. Picture within a picture! I had a similar experience in Paris where they kept the records and sleeves separate. I just inspected them and rejected some. Not ideal. Rome hot in July? Hmmm. 🤔 Cheers.
Arching my back, leaning over, down on the ground, digging is what I do, except I get good records for 50 cents to 6 dollars per. As long as that store sold their records cheaper, I'm with you, I wouldn't dig there either ( If the prices are the same as the other expensive Italian shops ) 🎵
There's a store in Toronto that I never go into because half of the records are on the floor and the other half are way lower tha normal. It kills my back. I'd go back to Transmission if I am ever back here, even with what I said :)
Well, that second store was more my vibe. The first one had the sort of new merchandise stock that honestly, you can get pretty much anywhere even where I live (Omaha). I looked both of them up though, and it looks like they're both in the areas around Termini Station. Not convenient for me hotel-wise because I usually stay on the coast when in Rome, but...I just might check them out on my next visit LOL!
I agree with you on that point, though I did see some stuff that is harder to find in Canada. The second store had a very good inventory, but I didn't love browsing there. I forgot to mention that there were stacks of records on top of some bins, which drives me crazy. A store in Toronto does that too. It prevents people from looking for records...
I’m surprised to see so much paving everywhere. I mean, no trees or green spaces, even small ones. Heat island is all I can think of! Oh, there! Trees around the Colosseum!
Rome was the hottest of the three places we went. The Vatican courtyard is blistering with not a tree in sight. You are right, the whole city is definitely a heat island. But, there are a few parks, which were very nice. Overall, it was very very hot 🥵
I don't know. Looks to me like Rome needs some work. A few of those buildings looked like they were in absolute ruins. Ruins, I tells ya! Thanks for another tour and for some subtle humor. "Sex work is work." You're telling me! Especially at my age. Another great video, Brian.
Weird how much new vinyl there was and not that much used. Guess they are not OG crazy. The second store was bizarre on how they sell but to each their own. Loved the scenery though the heat would be bad. Tour de France has been very hot
Record shopping on vacation is a first for me, though I have gone to shops while travelling for work. I am usually the first awake, and the stores open early here (way earlier than in Toronto), so i had nothing better to do.
“Do as Romans do, and so far to me that means smoking which I’m not doing”.. . I like how you pop up in the corner of the video with cool sunglasses. Cannabis and sex at the 5:53 mark. I’m all in. 😂 “Lots of CDs separated from their cases. Kind of a disaster to look at.” “A couple of things tempted me, now I’m doing a long walk through the the Rome heat back to the apartment” 😂
Brian, you've got some really good footage and editing going on there -please tell me you were influenced by my videos- , its very effective. I like your duel front n back camera, is that standard on the phone or is that a special app? I wouldn't mind having a go if possible. Very posh looking first store (i need a few more zoom ins on the price labels pls) . That second store looks a bit crazy but I feel there's a bargain or two there if you have knee pads. Please tell me how much the 4AD Lonely is an eyesore (on the floor) was? Also I would make a small complaint about your air BnB accommodation at 07:24 but good to see the sex workers getting the message across to visiting tourists! Looking forward to seeing what you bought. Great ending the video with a bang/thud
Hi Stevie - Yes, you are the video master! I have learned a lot form you 👍 On my Samsung S23, the camera app has a mode called Director's View, which combines front and rear cameras. No editing is required, though I suppose you could achieve the same thing with some serious editing, but that seems like too much work. The second store was pretty good, despite the mess. I was on a schedule, or I would have stayed longer. Sorry for not zooming in on price tags and I don't recall the price on the 4AD item. Sorry. BnBs were hard to find, so we made do. Cardboard is a pretty good insulator. 100% support to sex workers 🙂 It sure sounds like work to me.
No records were harmed in that clip! I think it was linens of some sort, probably towels and bedding. I can't be sure, but the thud made me come to that conclusion. I've been wrong before!
That looked fun! Can’t wait to see what you got.
I bought less that I thought I would, but that saved me some cash!
What records!!?? Damn this is some beautiful footage! Great filming, Brian!
Well, you really can't go wrong if you are in Italy 🙂

I only got to three stores and there are many many more. Book your ticket now 😂

I have one of the Totoro’s - import and was expensive. Fun trip through these record stores.
I was wondering if anyone would make a comment on the Miyazaki stuff. I guess you are the mostly likely candidate to do that!
I would have been all over that 50% off Metal bin. The exchange rate is definitely a factor. On one of my Montreal trips the US/Can rate was 1-to-1 and it made everything crazy expensive. Thanks for sharing more of your trip, Brian!
I hate to say it, but I did not flip through that metal bin. Maybe I should have.

I thought of you when I saw that 50% metal sale. I only made it to three stores. There are lots more! I wish I had more time.
@@EmbryonicRobot Im bopping around downtown TO today. Got a huge haul of stuff at BMV. Lets hang when you get back!
@@LowNoiseJasonSkilz Sounds good!!
Love the footage ! I want to live there.. Haha 😅 No, seriously, Italy or Greece would be a good lifestyle. Cool record shop, I hear it's pricy..
Canada's dollar sucks, but otherwise, it is pretty great here, even with the heat!
Very impressed with the editing Brian. Picture within a picture! I had a similar experience in Paris where they kept the records and sleeves separate. I just inspected them and rejected some. Not ideal. Rome hot in July? Hmmm. 🤔 Cheers.
To be honest, iMovie makes it fairly easy. The credit goes to the software!

I noticed the ruins too! I guess Romans do not pay taxes. "Sex work is work." - Ha ha. Your response to that was all I could have hoped for 😀

I can't imagine doing the Tour de France in this heat ... well, in any conditions at all. I'd have to walk up the hills!
@@EmbryonicRobotyeah those uphills on bikes is brutal lol
Transmission Records looks like a nightmare. Though I did see a very good 60’s record. I don’t go record shopping when I’m on vacation.

Brian, was that a sack of garbage being thrown to the ground, at the very end of the video ? Hope it wasn't a sack of King Crimson records.
