This is one of the best songs! It’s amazing, and I have loved this song since the first time I heard it in 1981. Most people will tell you in the comments section that they know this song from Family Ties which made this a number one hit in 1986-87
I have loved this song forever. I'm 69 years old. I can't begun to tell you all the stories of my life I go through when I hear this song. You chose my favorite performance. If I replayed it 100 times in a row, I'd still get goosebumps! His raw emotion, his beautiful, soulful voice, every one of the talented musicians he's playing with, THE SAX(!), even the audience! I can't imagine a better performance. Thank you for this! I really needed to bump into you and your channel tonight. I subscribed.
You got that right ! :) This is an all time classic and ranks right up there with Billy Paul's "Me and Mrs Jones " and Joe Cocker's "You are so Beautiful"....JMHO !
at the end of 1981this song peaked at only no. 79. after many many years of fustration the band broke up. 5 years later the song song was featured in the tv series family ties. the song got people where can i get the song. it was re-released. on rhino records. the song ewent up the hot 100 and the adult comtemporary charts in janurary 1985 the song reached no.1 on both charts.
What a difference from the standard peppy pop offerings from the 80's weighed down with synthesizers and drum machines. Billy's voice, the horns, the piano, the entire band, the soul and the heartbreak. A true standout. Thank you for bringing this one out of the shadows of time. Another trip in the sonic time machine. 🎷🎤🎶
I also saw that interview. The emotion he pours into this song is so genuine. I suppose that's why people respond to it the way we do. So deeply touching.
I loved your reaction. The lyric that most gets me is when he sings "If you'd stay, I'd subtract 20 years from my life." I always thought of this as if he was 30 years old, for example, and she came back. If his destiny was to live 80 years, he would live until 60 to enjoy those 30 years with her!!!!
2 years ago i was volunteering at a charity fundraiser in Los Angeles for The Get Together Foundation. There was a music show as part of the event, it was held in a converted movie theater. The show theme was "One hit wonders". I was lucky enough to hear Billy Vera perform this song that night. He still sounded amazing! In fact i was mesmerized watching. This has always been one of my favorite love songs. Thanks for checking it out!
My gosh! He would have been 78 years old then I think. Just goes to show, when a song is coming straight from your heart, it's timeless. How wonderful!
Love me some Three Dog Night! I remember a humid Memphis summer night back in the 70’s- wore my pink Hot Pants outfit to the Three Dog Night concert with my boyfriend. We rocked out to Joy To the World, Eli’s Coming, The Road To Shambala, Old Fashioned Love Song, Celebrate, Easy To Be Hard, Mama Told Me & Never Been To Spain- what a night!!! Some info on their name- in Alaska when it’s really cold they pile in three dogs for warmth- it’s a Three Dog Night!
Incredibly under the radar band. And very good at what they did/do. "Oh What A Night" is another great tune by them. That "again" at the end is so worth it.
In 1967 he teamed with gospel singerJudy Clay and hit the charts with "Storybook Children", considered to be the first interracial love song to chart in the USA. My fav of theirs is "Country Girl-City Man"
As someone pointed out this became famous for being on the show Family Ties with Michael J Fox, they played it in a scene when Alex’s girlfriend is leaving and fun fact the actress who played the girlfriend is Michael’s wife and has been. So everytime I hear it I think of them dancing to this to close out the episode
I would love to see you react to one of my favorite Bee Gees songs, and will showcase Robin's magical voice!! Please react to the live version showing them singing outside. The song is: "FOR WHOM THE BELL TOWS!" The cry in Robin's voice, will leave you emotional. I find that this song is sang about youngest brother Andy, when they lost him to heart failure. Thank you sweetie 😊
One of my favorites!!! Real music.. real music. Was played on the sitcom when she broke up with him.. michael J fox. But in the end in real life they got married.
I was in a relationship with someone I loved more than anything in this world and he cheated on Christmas Eve and broke my heart. I tried to forgive him but over time I realized that I could not trust him and I hated the wondering I was having if he was not home or I could not reach him for days so I had to walk away from him and my heart was shattered. I continued to love him for years and I could never listen to this song until 25 years had passed. I am grateful for that relationship as it taught me what I wanted and did not want from a relationship and I found the most amazing man and we are happily married. It’s unreal how much you can love another individual so deeply and my husband’s love has allowed me to let go of an unwanted love and cherish the deep love we share.
There are two kinds of people in the world: The ones who think this is a pretty song and the ones who have had their hearts well and truly broken, feel every note and syllable, and still choke up when we hear it.
❤ Love this.. love him.... have some old records of his. This is my favorite song by him. Oh the memories❤ Love the sax.... ❤ Thank you so much Seb... ❤ love to you and your beautiful family❤
You are not kidding. The 70's have so many great songs that still hold up today. Perhaps one of my all-time favorites is Jay Ferguson's "Thunder Island." That song evokes the summers of my youth, young love, freedom, and hope.
Billy is a good friend of mine. He is now 80 years old and lives in California. He and my friend Kevin meet weekly on Wednesday and Thursday for lunch. Billy wrote this song after a younger woman left him and left him broken.
This was our song I had with a former girlfriend of mine. Sorry Missy, the timing was just off a little bit. We both found excellent spouses. But will always wonder what might have been? Need to listen to "What Might Have Been" by Little Texas.❤
This experience with my wife of 14 years. Two daughters, brand new house and mortgage, and two car notes. Thirty years ago. Still hurts. New guy lasted 6 months.
When my grandparents divorced my grandmother never remarried, I'm not sure if it was because she still loved my granddaddy or what, but it happens. Loved yall doing this together.
When you are you going through a break up, it does feel like love is a lie, in that moment. That is what he is singing about. The emotion of a break up.
Convinced they had wrung all the cash out of this song they could for a few years, Billy was confronted by NBC to use the song in FAMILY TIES for Michael J Fox's prom scene. NBC bought the rights to the song and get all the royalties. Billy lost out when it hit #1 after the show and stayed there for weeks.
This was featured on Family Ties in 1986(?) as the song for Alex (Michael J Fox) and Ellen (Tracy Pollan), being especially prominent when they broke up. The amazing afterword for that is that Fox and Pollan married in real life and are still together today.
If memory serves…Billy actually wrote it for/about a girlfriend that became his future and current wife…Professor of Rock did a recent deep dive and interview with Billy.
Young people today are being prepared for A.I. Deep Fake pictures. CGI Movies without human actors. Music with no natural elements in it. As you stare at that "thing" in your hand that traces your every step and breath and collects information it's creators use to make money for themselves by marketing you to yourself every time you use it, it's best to remember that *No A.I. will ever feel anything at all.* That's not entertainment. That's putting up a great big sign in employment agencies around the world which states *No Humans Need Apply.*
Hi Sebs and hi to Ali and Millie and Penny. Took a bad fall Friday and haven't been around much. I'm taking peeps. BIG THANKS FOR PLAYING BOTH JOHN MAYER & JM AND ED SHEREEN PEACE, LOVE AND GOD'S GRACE ✌️💜✝️🎸
Could you check out Janice Joplin please, she has some great recordings you would love, would love to hear them and see your reaction!🤩 I've always loved this Billy Vera song! Thank you for reviewing it.
This is not the live taping I remember from the radio. They are very different. I prefer the live taping that we heard on the radio. But there is no video footage of that particular recording. At least none that I have ever seen. But when I listen to this song, I listen to the live version from the radio, off of the album. This is still good and close to the radio play, but not close enough for me.
That's where I first heard it. Ellen broke up with Alex. It was really, really sad. Of course, they got married in real life, and she has stayed by his side.
This is one of the best songs! It’s amazing, and I have loved this song since the first time I heard it in 1981.
Most people will tell you in the comments section that they know this song from Family Ties which made this a number one hit in 1986-87
Me too!
Me too!
Omg ..Billy Vera and the Beaters! Great song!

Your comment is the most underrated and true so thank you!
This has always been my fovorite song. When he says I'd subtract 20 years from my life, it kills me every time.
You got that right ! :) This is an all time classic and ranks right up there with Billy Paul's "Me and Mrs Jones " and Joe Cocker's "You are so Beautiful"....JMHO !

Oh my word I haven’t heard this in forever! I always loved it so much! Thanks for playing it!
This was heart felt, because I saw an interview with him, and he said it did happen to him. so sad.
Had heard he said it happened to a friend of his. Not him
I also saw that interview. The emotion he pours into this song is so genuine. I suppose that's why people respond to it the way we do. So deeply touching.
Ohhh my, I remember this. Haven't heard it in a long time. Released in 1981 by Billy Vera & The Beaters. Resurged when used on TV show Family Ties.
This is truly a great song…Billy nails it…and those 4 Saxes are just filthy 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😉
The song is awesome... Totally awesome. And those saxophones.... Oh my gosh!
Sebs, so glad you found this gem. I've always loved this song, but I am embarrassed to admit I never knew the artist's name. 🤠
I loved your reaction. The lyric that most gets me is when he sings "If you'd stay, I'd subtract 20 years from my life." I always thought of this as if he was 30 years old, for example, and she came back. If his destiny was to live 80 years, he would live until 60 to enjoy those 30 years with her!!!!
i remember hearing this on the radio when i was a kid. it was, and is, always breath-taking.
This song was HUGE in the 80's...and since then!!!! Great reaction. I love you do artists that aren't necessarily popular now. ❤

Yes, beautiful song. I remember it from the TV show Family Ties
He sang tv themes as well. Empty Nest and King Of Queens. Love his voice.
Great song! One of my all time favorites. Glad you enjoyed it.
This world is filled with so much talent...
One of the best love songs ever❤
This has been on every playlist! Most favorite song ever!
This song is just magic. You did a great job with your review. Don't you just miss this kind of soul? I do.
Still on my playlist ❤
Billy has such an amazing voice! I absolutely love this song, loved it when it came out and still do to this day. This is what true music is.
Oh my gosh I haven't heard this song in ages and it's still just as powerful as ever. That's some great music right there.
One of my all time favorite songs
This song is 40 years old. And still awesome 👍
Shows the difference between a singer and a performer.
Incredibly under the radar band. And very good at what they did/do. "Oh What A Night" is another great tune by them. That "again" at the end is so worth it.
Have always loved this song, though when you experience loss, the effect and enjoyment changes but is still powerful.
Right i agree 1000 percent
It's fun watching you try to rub your goosebumps away at the end of the song!
I was doing the same thing but have surely listened to this song 1000 times. It's been my favorite seen I first heard it in 1981!
This was a wedding reception staple when I was a kid! Always loved this song!
In 1967 he teamed with gospel singerJudy Clay and hit the charts with "Storybook Children",
considered to be the first interracial love song to chart in the USA.

We all fell in love with the song from Family Ties tv show.
My favorite song ever
Here comes the dawn again- Billy Vera and The Beaters. Is another great one from them!!!!!!!
Beautiful 🎵
Did you catch the dude with two saxes! Alto and that big baritone sax. Epic!
I was in a relationship with someone I loved more than anything in this world and he cheated on Christmas Eve and broke my heart. A truly great song that provided the soundtrack for my separation and divorce.
I love this song. I think he mostly wrote for other artists.
❤ Love this.. love him.... have some old records of his.
This is my favorite song by him. Oh the memories❤ Love the sax.... ❤
Thank you so much Seb... ❤ love to you and your beautiful family❤
I can't believe you & some others didnt know Katy. She's been around at least 25yrs with hits. Thanks for playing it.
Awwww I remember when this came out. Such a beautiful song!
I have *always* loved this song.
This us goung on an old ladies play list. Thank you 😊
Come on people. Go in to the 70's and explore. We had so much great stuff. Oh the horn is a saxophone 🎷. I love love love it.
You are not kidding. The 70's have so many great songs that still hold up today. Perhaps one of my all-time favorites is Jay Ferguson's "Thunder Island." That song evokes the summers of my youth, young love, freedom, and hope.
Loved Billy and this song since I first heard it
I remember it from the Family Ties tv series. It was used perfectly ❤
Amazing!!
Billy is a good friend of mine. He is now 80 years old and lives in California. He and my friend Kevin meet weekly on Wednesday and Thursday for lunch. Billy wrote this song after a younger woman left him and left him broken.

My girlfriends and I loved this song when we were younger and wondered if we would know that kind of love, beautiful song
This experience with my wife of 14 years. Two daughters, brand new house and mortgage, and two car notes. Thirty years ago. Still hurts. New guy lasted 6 months.
Timeless gem 💎
I’ll be 51 tomorrow and this song still brings tears to my eyes.
I have always loved this song!!
Stank Face… only thing to say about this. Lyrics, piano, horns, spacing… just makes you say “eeeeewwwwww” it’s so damn good
At This Moment was the theme of my Senior prom back in 1987. The words were etched into our glass's and the song ended the night.
When my grandparents divorced my grandmother never remarried, I'm not sure if it was because she still loved my granddaddy or what, but it happens. Loved yall doing this together.
Billy Vera was also in a movie called " Baha Oklahoma " with Leslie Ann Warren and Willie Nelson and a few other stars! ❤
When you are you going through a break up, it does feel like love is a lie, in that moment. That is what he is singing about. The emotion of a break up.
The came out in 1981 but blew up when it was featured on the show Family Ties.
I'm Marty's Widow I love this song
This is an all-time favorite version of this song!
One of my very favorite recordings!!
I love Three Dog Night, but have to admit, never heard this song. Some of their later songs are classics!
His "By Request" album has a number of great songs in this vein. His vocals and the band are fantastic throughout.
This was featured on Family Ties in 1986(?) as the song for Alex (Michael J Fox) and Ellen (Tracy Pollan), being especially prominent when they broke up. The amazing afterword for that is that Fox and Pollan married in real life and are still together today.
My favorite Billy Vera song is 'Someone will school you, Someone will cool you'
Love this song.
I remember when this song came out
This song reminds me of my brothers band, they used to cover this song. My brother was the guitar player in the band.
If memory serves…Billy actually wrote it for/about a girlfriend that became his future and current wife…Professor of Rock did a recent deep dive and interview with Billy.
That deep instrument in the background is a baritone saxophone. I played one in my high school jazz band.
I've loved this song from the first time I heard it so many years ago. Thanks for the suggestion.

Chris Stapleton is a huge deal in the US. What a talent!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I've always loved this Billy Vera song! Thank you for reviewing it.
This was a # 1 hit in the 80's
I believe this song topped the charts in 3 diff years.
❤
(No words needed)
He had a band Billy and the Beaters. Check them out.
Definitely should have done it with the Mrs. though 😉
"At This Moment" this was my high school prom theme ❤
This was husband's favorite song
This is not the live taping I remember from the radio. They are very different. I prefer the live taping that we heard on the radio. But there is no video footage of that particular recording. At least none that I have ever seen. But when I listen to this song, I listen to the live version from the radio, off of the album. Wasn't this the theme song for Alex and Ellen's relationship on Family Ties or something? 🤷♀️
That's where I first heard it. Ellen broke up with Alex. It was really, really sad. Of course, they got married in real life, and she has stayed by his side.
Listen to Lee Micheals "Stormy Monday"
Try “Forty Days in the Hole”, by Humble Pie, it is a rock classic.
This song became famous through a TV show called Family Matters. Michael J Fox was the “star” as a precocious conservative kid. Great show!
“Family Ties”
I came to ask how many had this song enter their lives from FAMILY TIES.
Hi Seb, If you like horns you should check out Earl Thomas Conley "HONOR BOUND " ty
This would have been a great reaction with your lady ☺️
