My heart skipped a beat. I felt like a child in a toy store upon entering with you. What a wonderful book store. Being there with you is lovely. As someone said. I could be there for hours.Thank you as always.
Thank you for taking us shopping with you, It has been wonderful to know those wonderful bookshops. I have enjoyed the trip very much, now I am looking forward to the discussion of the book of The Wind in the Willows. Have a nice week xxx
Never “apologize for nerdy details.” Those are one of the many reasons we enjoy spending time with you. Thank you so much for some very educational information.
I was captivated by the “nerdy” book collecting information you shared on the Chalet School Girls book cover. I adore knowing stuff like this and am delighted when people are “all in” on their interests and passions. Never apologize! Wave that book “nerd” flag…. That’s why I’m here! ❤❤ Thanks for taking us to the bookstores with you and your Mom. A fun adventure from my chair.
Those children’s books in Barter books remind me of ones my older cousins used to give me to read while we were on holiday near their farm in Aberdeenshire in the 70s.
Thanks for taking us with you! Gorgeous bookshops. I especially love the quote signage hung over the aisles at Barter. I like the idea of a nursery rhyme for every night. I'll have to put that one on my wish list.
Thank you so much for this lovely video, Miranda. It was blissful to see inside those gorgeous bookshops! I so enjoyed seeing the wonderful books you chose. Wishing you, Donna, and all the other people watching a good week ahead. 📚💕💐
I've been watching your vlog for ages. I finally set up a TH-cam account so I can subscribe to my fave vlogs, including yours. You've inspired many of my reading selections. Thanks to you and your Mum for the wonderful book shop tours today.
Seeing the Ladybird books made me nostalgic 🥹 I used to own a very beautiful edition of Cinderella with stunning illustrations. It was published by Ladybird books. I’ll forever be sad that I lost it 💔
Your videos make Sunday afternoons more delightful. Thank you, Miranda! Glad you found some lovely books during your new adventures. Kinds regards to your mom; her beautiful eyes glowing at the bookstore convey our shared enthusiasm for these paper companions.
It was a treat, as always, to go on a treasure hunt through the stacks with you and Donna. And I enjoy your "nerdy" book-collecting tidbits! I hope the week finds you both enjoying all things spring! 🌷🌼
Thank you so very much for your kind support, as always , Pamela! So generous of you! I'm very glad you enjoyed the video. Wishing you a lovely start to spring too! 🌷 💖
Thank you Miranda for taking us with you! Beautiful bookshops! Putting them on my list once in England. Love your videos, they are fabulously relaxing, educational and fun to watch. You introduced me to so many great books and writers. Profoundly appreciated 🥰
Dear Miranda, thank you for this lovely vlog! I was so pleased watching it! Of course, now I want to go to Barter Books myself!! What a stunning bookshop! You look lovely in your pretty dress and beautiful cardigan! Have a very happy week, I'm very much looking forward to Thursday and the Comfort Bookclub.
Happy Sunday and hello from Chicago this afternoon! The pottery you have displayed in your cupboard and mantle are so beautiful, along with the spring flowers! Your vlogs are always a joy to view, and your book reviews are so well done!
What a gorgeous day out we were able to spend with you and Donna, Miranda. I loved everything about this vlog! Now that my first granddaughter Violet was born this past January I have a renewed interest in children’s books. What a nice treat to see all the books you’ve chosen to add to your life-long collection!
Violet is such a pretty name! I was really thrilled with the good children's book selection at Barter Books. Thank you very much for your lovely support, Judi! I really appreciate it ❤️
😻💙 OMG the size of Barters bookstore....thank god they have those gorgeous red couches as Id probably start hyperventilating and need a wee lie-down LOLZ. I remember this 2nd hand bookshop in Glasgow which I used to live near, 'Voltaire & Rousseau' (small shop tucked away in a alley) which is by no means as large but had a similar effect as it was just rammed floor to ceiling, wall to wall ! LOOVEE that train going round the store too. PS. There was a sound piece (ambient /piano) in the video which was so lovely so had to shazam it - (Summer Memories by Gavin Luke -❤❤❤❤ - thank you for using it as it evoked something special - am very much into soundscapes/music: xx )
Oh my gosh, Barter Books is gorgeous! I love the fires, the architecture, the trains, and of course, all the books. Thank you so much for filming your trip there.
Donna and Miranda, Thank you for taking us along on your trip to Barter Books. It looked amazing and I can imagine spending hours, if not days browsing there and then settling down by the fire with my finds. Loved your dress and and the lineup of beautiful mugs in the background during your intro. I'm eagerly waiting for my copy of "The Lark in the Morn" from Blackwells and started my reread of "Sense and Sensibility" this morning while enjoying a hot cross bun (both of which made me very happy 🥰) Looking forward to book club on Thursday!
Thanks so much for your lovely and enthusiastic response to the vlog, Nancy! I’m so happy you’ve got a copy of Lark in the Morn heading to you! Yum to a hot cross bun treat too - have a great week! ❤️📚
Such lovely bookshops! I truly envy living in a place where books are so beautiful and valued and independent bookstores are still standing and thriving! I hope to travel to England in the next two years and will definitely spend time wandering about shelves like these.
Happy Sunday to you and your Mom. I love going to a Used Book Shop. The second one that you went to - oh my gosh - that one is so neat with the Train going around up at the top and it is so awesome that it was at one time a Train Station. Wow. I would have bought several of those Children’s Books from there cause they are my favorites to read. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗📚🔰📖❤️
Thanks again, Miranda, your videos seem to take you back to memories of lovely times, and are so very lovely. The children’s books reminded me of my happy reading childhood years. I liked that in the first bookshop you visited, there were quotes from the books at the top of the aisles. It’s nice and good for the environment too, to buy old books, which have probably been previously cherished by their owners. Hope you had a really good weekend, and I really appreciate your outdoor adventures, because currently I cannot get out and about so much as I would like, but your outings remind me that I might be able to, again, at some time in the future. It’s a really lovely way to spend an afternoon, browsing all the delightful books. Thanks again for this cheerful, encouraging, fascinating glimpse into your lifestyle, too.
Such a beautiful place, Maria! I do hope you’ll be out and about again before too long, and hope my videos continue to help a little in the meantime. Wishing you all the best! ❤️📚
What a fabulous bookshop, absolutely stunning. Books we have loved as children/young people are so very special and hold such precious memories. I too love a charity bookshop, too much temptation 😂 Lovely episode , thank you so much. ❤
I was so excited to see you were at Barter Books 📚 We usually try and make it up every year but didn't get there last year. It was so lovely to see that everything is as it should be. My family have now learnt to leave me there for the day 😏 I was 9 too, when I started collecting vintage childrens books. It was incredibly interesting to hear about the history of GGBP. I do love their Friday newsletter 🖤 It does make me laugh. Best wishes to your Mum. Sally xxx
Thank you so much for your generous support, Sally! So very kind of you, and I really appreciate it! Yes, the GGBP newsletter always perks up my Friday morning too 😂 ❤️
Hi Miranda, Thank you for taking us with you to these delightful, calming shops. I wish we had shops like this in my state. You look so pretty in your dress, and I love seeing your Mom in your videos. I also enjoyed your pretty display of tea/coffee mugs and lovely Springtime flowers.....all so pleasing to the eyes. Happiness, Cindy
I think living in Northumberland makes me take Barter Books for granted! I also love the Lions International charity bookshop in Alnwick, and I always seem to find some lesser-known Georgette Hayer books there also, such a lovely vlog as always Miranda!
Oh Miranda I’m so pleased you bought the copy “Princess Anne”, it’s exactly the edition I used to have about 60 + years ago! I loved the chance to visit Barter Books vicariously, I was so busy reading the quotes I nearly missed the train. I’m on my second “watch” of your fabulous vlog.
Lovely bookstore! Fun to see the trains running around, my father and brother used to have trains in our basement. I suffered bookstore envy again. Wish I had a super power of transporting myself to various bookshops over there. 😂. Holy moly, so cool. Oh, and your flower print dress was so pretty too. Anyways, thanks as always for sharing your trip. Til next time. 📚🤗💕💕
Another delightful video! Thank you so much for taking us along to these wonderful shops. I spent 3 hours in the dentist chair this afternoon, and I'm having considerable mouth pain. This book-shopping trip was the perfect treat! And I have to say, I love the nerdy details. So thank you for sharing those. I enjoy learning about vintage children's books.
Loved revisiting Barter Books with you and Donna, it’s been a while since my last trip there and it’s such a wonderful, atmospheric shop. Enjoyed sharing your book haul, too. Thank you so much, Miranda! Enjoy the rest of the week 📚 ❤️
Thanks so much Lindsey. I’m so glad it brought back happy memories of your last trip there. Thank you so much too for your very kind and generous support. It means a lot! Xxx ❤️📚
It just makes me so happy whenever you mention Elizabeth Goudge. I read Gentian Hill a lifetime ago and loved it. I think the edition I read had the same cover. Barter Books had the most amazing collection I’ve ever seen.
Ooooh I’ve always wanted to go to Barter Books, lovely of you to take me (and all of us) along with you. What a place. I’m going to have to take a trip myself at some point. What fab finds you both had. I seem unable to pass a charity shop without ‘falling in’ too.
So glad you enjoyed it, Simon! I’m sure you’d have a great time too. It has such a wonderful atmosphere, and what bookish person could resist the quotes and those train sets, let alone all the books 😂
Great to see you back! Barter Books looks wonderful; I love that it's in an old railway station and they have the train running round high up in the shop. Also love the various quotes hanging between the shelves. I think I'd need a whole day in there and would probably spend a fortune. The Accidental Bookshop looks a super independent too and the nursery rhyme book looks delightful. I'm happy to say that my copy of Enchantment by Katherine May has arrived; thank you for showing the independent edition to us a couple of weeks ago, the cover is beautiful. You certainly did well at Barter Books. I am going to have a look for some M E Atkinson titles, she isn't an author I know but her stories sound a good fit for me. I have that original FOCS edition of Gerry, actually the first four of the series are FOCS but five and six are GGB, then Janie Steps In I didn't get from them as I already had the hard back. A bit of a mistake as the series would look nicer if they were all the same. I really like that edition of The Grand Sophy, I do have it in hardback (it's one of my favourites) but not nearly such a pretty dw. Many thanks for sharing your trip with us.
So happy your copy of Enchantment lived up to expectations, Karen! I have all the La Rochelle’s as GGBP and am really looking forward to reading them straight through. It’s always fun to start a new collection - hope you enjoy the Atkinsons when you try one ❤️📚
I was due to visit Barter Books a couple of years ago while on holiday in Northumberland, but I was poorly and didn’t make it. Glad to see what I missed - sort of!
What a historical visit! Thank you for bringing us along!! Such quaint details you captured for us 📚 And I think I can safely say that most of us watching are absolutely here for the nerdy dust jacket-esque details 😋😄 Thank you for being you!! 🌸🦄✨
Thank you so much for taking us along!!! It was so calming and relaxing, but it also made it really want to visit if I’m ever back in the UK. I love the real fires, and some of those books you filmed on the shelves would have made me almost giddy to find.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to Barter Books. I visited several years ago and they were decorated for Christmas at the time. They even had a Christmas "book tree." One of my finds was a lovely book about the series Call the Midwife which I got for a friend who is a fan of the series. Your book at the beginning of this video reminds me of one that I liked in grade school, Plain Girl by Virginia Sorenson, about an Amish girl who at the age of ten has to start attending public school. The book is all about how she adapts to the new culture she is suddenly exposed to.
It must be amazing at Christmas! I’m sure I had a copy of Plain Girl as a child and enjoyed it. I’ll have to look for it again. Thanks so much for the reminder, Gail!
Barter Books is so charming I am sure I would spend hours in there. Thank you for sharing the stores with us. The Georgette Heyer book was enticing . I have not ever seen that cover, what a keeper. Hope you have a Happy Sunday .
Oh my, what a lovely opportunity to visit Barter Books and Accidental Bookshop. Such a treat you've given us by taking us along with you. Thank you, Miranda. 📚💚📗
We had planned on visiting Barter Books when we are in Britain in the fall for a holiday from Ottawa 🇨🇦. So excited to see your video, now I’m even more excited. 💕
Barter bookshop is a fantastic place!!! I adore bookshops, especially second-hand ones because visiting them is like treasure-hunting, I always find something special… thank you for sharing ! P.S. Your mug collection is absolutely beautiful❤
I loved this video! Those book shops look amazing! All the books you spoke of are new to me! Have a lovely week! Looking forward to Thursday's CBC discussion! 💚
Miranda, what a wonderful bookshop that was! I could get lost in there for days! What a wonderful way to spend a day. Visiting bookshops, and having lunch, or afternoon tea. Very civilised ❤
Happy Sunday 🎉 oh the Drina book looked lovely. I have been thinking to look for older editions on some of my childhood books. I read so many nice books from the library as a child and sadly often don't remember the authors or title😅 I used to read a lot of books with animals as protagonists, or friendly ghosts and monsters and such things. Probably nothing remarkable. My most read children's books by far are Mary Poppins, Paddington Bear and the Drina books. I might do a reread of Paddington Bear.
What a wonderful bookshop! I could spend days there. From the building itself to the train and the fires and oh, the glorious books. And then a bonus of a second bookshop. Such a beautiful day spent with you and Donna, thank you 💕
So interesting. Must go there. You mentioned about book covers, Miranda. I couldn't agree more. How much better the old covers were. For example, looking at some of my old childhood books from the late 60s, early 70s, the books not only have much better covers than today, but also some illustrations within the text, which I liked.
Thank you for taking us to Barter Books Miranda. We have had many holidays in Northumberland and I always visit this amazing shop. I allow myself plenty of time for browsing and always buy a few books. It’s one of my happy places x
What a treasure trove! Thank you for filming, I loved “wandering” around with you. It’s so huge - it must take hours (or maybe days!) to explore it. Secondhand bookstores are so exciting, never knowing what what treasures are waiting to be discovered.
Hello Miranda, I’ve wanted to visit Barter Books ever since I first heard of it. It looks like a great place to visit and you found some lovely treasures to add to your collection. Thank you for sharing your visit with us.
Dear Miranda, I really enjoyed the bookshop tours. And Barter Books - be still my beating heart; I think I could spend the whole day (or two) there (loved the toy train circling about)! One mid-summer's day when I get the chance to go back to visit the UK, I can imagine all the secondhand books I shall find. 📚 In the meantime, your bookshop tours are a balm to my bookish soul. 💟 Best wishes, Jason
I’m so happy you enjoyed it, and it satisfied the armchair traveller in you, Jason -for now at least! I can imagine your bookshop tour of the UK will be giving you almost as much fun in the planning, as it will joy in the execution. I hope you’ll be able to enjoy Barter Books yourself very soon now! You’ll have to bring extra suitcases😂❤️📚
Thank you so much for taking us along! Both bookshops are lovely, but that first one truly is special! I could have spent a whole day there, and then some... Have a wonderful week!
What a wonderful outing. The bookshop looks lovely and you got some very nice books. (I would love one day to open a children's book in a second hand bookshop and see my own name and address written in my schoolgirl handwriting.)
Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you enjoy this tour of Barter Books. Please see the video description box for all relevant links. Miranda x

Thanks for taking us to the bookstores with you and your Mom. A fun adventure from my chair.

Such a treasure trove for us book lovers! ❤️📚
This segment has to be my favorite on your beautiful channel. Thank you!
So happy you enjoyed it Stacey ❤️📚
Loved the cozy bookshops
Absolute paradise !! 📚📚📚
Really enjoyed this week’s video and your visits to book shop. Thank you.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Beth! ❤️📚
That bookshop looks amazing! I would love to go there.😊
I was due to visit Barter Books a couple of years ago while on holiday in Northumberland, but I was poorly and didn’t make it. Glad to see what I missed - sort of!
Oh poor you, Gillian! How frustrating that would have been. I hope you get the opportunity to go yourself before too long!
Thank you Miranda Lovely to see those bookshops What a treat
Thanks so much, Claire! I’m so happy you enjoyed the vlog📚❤️
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️📚
Hello Miranda, hope you and your Mum are having a nice weekend. Thanks for such a lovely video, I enjoyed every moment!
We are, thank you, Donna. I’m so happy you enjoyed the video, and hope you have a great week ahead 🙂
I would love to go to Barter Books, pick up a book and sit by the fire. What a lovely bookstore! Thanks for taking us with you and your Mom! ❤️📚🙂
You’re so welcome! I hope you get to go yourself one day ❤️📚
So lovely to accompany you and your mum to those 2 wonderful bookshops in Northumberland
Thanks so much, Luke!
Barter Books is so charming I am sure I would spend hours in there. Thank you for sharing the stores with us. The Georgette Heyer book was enticing . I have not ever seen that cover, what a keeper. Hope you have a Happy Sunday .
Thanks so much! You too!
Oh my, what a lovely opportunity to visit Barter Books and Accidental Bookshop. Such a treat you've given us by taking us along with you. Thank you, Miranda. 📚💚📗
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! xxx
We had planned on visiting Barter Books when we are in Britain in the fall for a holiday from Ottawa 🇨🇦. So excited to see your video, now I’m even more excited. 💕
That’s a great idea! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did ❤📚
Barter bookshop is a fantastic place!!! I adore bookshops, especially second-hand ones because visiting them is like treasure-hunting, I always find something special… thank you for sharing ! P.S. Your mug collection is absolutely beautiful❤
Thank so much, Laura! I agree definitely treasure hunting ❤️📚
I loved this video! Those book shops look amazing! All the books you spoke of are new to me! Have a lovely week! Looking forward to Thursday's CBC discussion! 💚

Oh, please do not apologize for "nerdy details"! I do appreciate them!
What a beautiful post.Your accent is a delight!
Thanks so much!
Such a lovely photo of you in Barter Books. 😊
Miranda, what a wonderful bookshop that was! I could get lost in there for days! What a wonderful way to spend a day. Visiting bookshops, and having lunch, or afternoon tea. Very civilised ❤
We had so much fun! ❤️📚
so many vintage/antique titles :o :D
Always awaiting your Vlogs. Just love all of it. Especially those large book stores. I felt like I was viewing books with you and wish I was!
Oh thank you, Mary! I hope you do get there yourself before too long! ❤️📚
Am in U.S. so have to tour with you!
You’re always welcome to join us, Mary 😉📚❤️
I was in London in 1999.
I enjoy your videos so much, they are charming and so pleasant to listen to! Cannot wait till the next one!! 🥰🇨🇦
Thank you so much! That’s very kind of you to say, Elizabeth ❤️
Wow, what a fantastic bookshop!
Barter Books was amazing. I could easily spend the whole day there 😍📚
Definitely!❤️📚
Happy Sunday 🎉 oh the Drina book looked lovely. I have been thinking to look for older editions on some of my childhood books. I read so many nice books from the library as a child and sadly often don't remember the authors or title😅 I used to read a lot of books with animals as protagonists, or friendly ghosts and monsters and such things. Probably nothing remarkable. My most read children's books by far are Mary Poppins, Paddington Bear and the Drina books. I might do a reread of Paddington Bear.
I’ve enjoyed those three series so much too, and recently enjoyed rereading the first Drina book! Happy Sunday to you too! 📚❤️
What a wonderful bookshop! I could spend days there. From the building itself to the train and the fires and oh, the glorious books. And then a bonus of a second bookshop. Such a beautiful day spent with you and Donna, thank you 💕
Glad you enjoyed it, Sandy! Such a treasure trove for all us bibliophiles ❤️📚
So interesting. Must go there. You mentioned about book covers, Miranda. I couldn't agree more. How much better the old covers were. For example, looking at some of my old childhood books from the late 60s, early 70s, the books not only have much better covers than today, but also some illustrations within the text, which I liked.
Very lovely. Somehow that bookstore tour bought back fond memories of an H G Wells short story I read years ago called "The Magic Shop". Thanks.
But not so strange and sinister as that one 😂
@@MirandaMills I must agree with you. Some of Wells writing is kind of weird.
Thank you for taking us to Barter Books Miranda. We have had many holidays in Northumberland and I always visit this amazing shop. I allow myself plenty of time for browsing and always buy a few books. It’s one of my happy places x
I can understand that! ❤️📚
What a treasure trove! Thank you for filming, I loved “wandering” around with you. It’s so huge - it must take hours (or maybe days!) to explore it. Secondhand bookstores are so exciting, never knowing what what treasures are waiting to be discovered.
That’s so true, Naomi! Hope you’re having a good week! ❤️📚
Hello Miranda, I’ve wanted to visit Barter Books ever since I first heard of it. It looks like a great place to visit and you found some lovely treasures to add to your collection. Thank you for sharing your visit with us.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Marie! I hope you get to visit there yourself before too long📚❤️
Dear Miranda, I really enjoyed the bookshop tours.
@@MirandaMills Extra suitcases, and a large coat with many pockets to put books in (a technique by The Provincial Lady)! ❤😅 📚
Thank you so much for taking us along! Both bookshops are lovely, but that first one truly is special! I could have spent a whole day there, and then some... Have a wonderful week!
Thanks so much, Grace! You too!
What a wonderful outing. The bookshop looks lovely and you got some very nice books. (I would love one day to open a children's book in a second hand bookshop and see my own name and address written in my schoolgirl handwriting.)
That would be amazing! I’d have to buy it if that ever did happen! Thanks so much 📚❤️
🥰thank you this was a lovely way to spend a bit of Sunday 💙💚
I absolutely love Barter Books! Made a trip there when I was at Durham. I definitely need to plan a trip, possibly going along to Wigtown afterwards 😊
Sounds wonderful!
What a delightful place. Love it.
It really is!
What a lovely treat! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Merci beaucoup Donna et Miranda 🙏🏻☺️✨✨✨📚📚📚📚📚💗
Loved browsing the bookstores along with you and your mom 😊
Really enjoy all your vlogs really when you go book shopping with your mum .thank you ❤like the books you got.
Another delightful video. And of course I was delighted to see you had a link to your dress. Of course it fed my Seasalt Cornwall addiction!
It is a lovely and already very useful dress! So glad you enjoyed this video, Meg, and thank you very much indeed for your lovely support ❤️
